"Across the street from Langer’s, the park has become a focal point of safety and access concerns: local business owners point to crime, unhoused residents, and street vendors blocking sidewalks, and are calling for improved lighting, a stronger police presence, and social services to make the park accessible to residents. City officials have proposed closing a section of Wilshire Boulevard that cuts through the park to eliminate vehicle traffic and encourage walkability, and Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez introduced an initiative to provide support for overdose-prevention teams and address public-safety issues around the park’s unhoused population." - Mona Holmes
