"Despite the name, New Phnom Penh is a corner spot in Whitman of the most old-school variety: worn-in chairs stacked in the corner, vintage posters of golden-crowned Apsara dancing on the wall, and the comforting combination of wood paneling and a tender sauteed beef of the same color. Don’t let the unremarkable store front fool you—there is room for groups inside, and you should bring one to share a spread of peppery fried shrimp, savory congee soup, and the combo soup that’s layered with jumbo shrimp, crunchy lettuce, cilantro, and juicy chunks of pork. They close on most days at 6pm, so stop by the casual shop for an aromatic breakfast or lunch. photo credit: GAB BONGHI photo credit: GAB BONGHI photo credit: GAB BONGHI photo credit: GAB BONGHI photo credit: GAB BONGHI Pause Unmute" - Candis R.
