"Growing up in Miami means crumbling Maria cookies over peaks of ice cream and mixing in cubes of guava paste when it softens. Maybe an abuelo slips cafecito into their grandkid’s bowls while no one’s looking. You can find professional versions of all these creations at Azucar, a classic Miami ice cream shop on Calle Ocho. They’ve got an Abuela Maria flavor that mixes guava, cream cheese, and Maria cookies into vanilla ice cream. But there’s more than just the nostalgic stuff. There’s a plátano maduro flavor, banana and red hots, sweet potato and ancho chile, and a classic mantecado for traditionalists.
