This is the perfect spot to go to on a hot Miami day! The Cholados are not only delicious but they will literally cool you off bite after bite. What is a Cholado? A Cholado is a cross between a frozen dessert, fruit cocktail, and a drink, and derives from El Valle region of Colombia. It's tangy, sweet, creamy, crunchy, and fruity, all in one spoonful.
This small little shop is tucked away in the Amazon jungle, just kidding but when you go you will know why I said that. It's actually in the new shopping center Buena Vista Miami. Amazonica lives up to its name. The walls are decorated with Amazon like wallpaper and the outside of the store you just have to see for yourself (the store fits the theme of the mini-mall). It's a small shop with only 2-3 tables but sitting outdoors is the place to be!
Amazonica offers Cholados, Obleas, Pan de Bono (Colombian style bread) and an Acai Bowl.
We tried two of types of Cholados;
Tropicality- Base (shaved ice), Lychee, Kiwi Puree, kiwi, pineapple, green apple, mint.
Guava Maria - Base (shaved ice, vanilla ice cream), Guava Puree, Maria Cookies, strawberry, guava squares, arequipe.
Both were good, the Tropicality was more sour and the Guava Maria was sweeter and had a more thick consistency but both were good. I want to try the Mango next time since the girl behind the counter said it was her favorite. The fruits used are fresh not canned. One of the employees gave me complimentary Pan de Bonos and they were warm a tasty. Thank you!
The Cholados are a little pricey at $8.99 and if you add a popsicle to it, it's an additional $4.00. Yes a little too much for a dessert like treat but they are big and filling enough that it can be split by two people. Not too many places making these and the area they are located in is up and coming so I see why the cost would be on the higher side.
I am definitely coming back because they were good and refreshing and I loved the area and mini-mall it's located in. You can just grab a Cholado and go chill outside under a tree in the Amazon. :)
They have a very small parking lot and there is street metered parking in the surrounding area.
