"Supérette is the vintage-inspired, Paris-meets-Passyunk wine bar, bottle shop, and café mashup South Philly never knew it desperately needed. It comes as no surprise, since it's from the team behind Good King Tavern and Superfolié, who've pretty much mastered the whole drink-well-and-eat-light thing in this town. They specialize in French wines, but the bar shells out a mean bourbon smash and gin martini if cocktails are more your speed. You’ll usually find it overflowing with friends sharing cheese boards, first dates flirt-fighting over the last bite of parsley-soaked octopus and merguez, and beanie-capped babies and their parents sharing squares of the comté ravioli. After lingering over a few tasty small plates in the lemon-yellow booths, you'll want to take a bottle and the black olive tapenade to go (and you should). The fun and refinement at Supérette flow as easily as pét-nat into a glass, putting it at the top of the list of East Passyunk essentials. photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi video credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi video credit: Gab Bonghi Pause Unmute Food Rundown Smash If we were making a “Now That’s What I Call A Bourbon Smash” album, Supérette’s version would be track one. It’s the classic blend of bourbon, lemon, and mint, but each sip is smooth and seamless. We would ghost our go-to cocktail for this. And we don’t say that lightly. Highball They’re not trying to break the highball mold here. This one has tequila, fizzy grapefruit juice, and with a cassis foamy and bubbly hood. But who needs innovation when it’s this impeccably refreshing and light? Order it. PlayMute video credit: Gab Bonghi Plateau du Marche The options for this spread change regularly. We’ve had it as a meaty, cheesy collage of buttery fromage blanc, green olives, crispy curry chickpeas, prosciutto, and soft baguette slices. Perfect for snacking with a couple of friends. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Artichoke In the mood for artichoke? A perfectly crispy version? You know what to do. And don’t skip the garlic mayo. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Escargot Tartlet Good escargot. Decent puff pastry. Altogether, it gets a shoulder shrug from us. PlayMute video credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN Comté Ravioles Ravioli is great in its own right. Coat it with a brown butter wine sauce, and you have an irresistible duo. Since they’re all on one waffle-like sheet, you may struggle with how to judiciously split it with the table. That’s simple. Eat a row, then another, and keep going until your friends take the hint and get their own. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Octopus And Merguez Tender fingerling potatoes. Plump octopus bits. Spicy merguez. All in an electrifying and herby parsley sauce. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Melted Raclette Sandwich Is it a wine bar? A bottle shop? A market? Or a place to indulge our gooey cheese sandwich fantasies? Yes to all of the above, but especially the last part. What we have here is a well-made, extremely melty cheese sandwich. One in which dijon and cornichon play a tangy supporting role in a creamy main event. Yes, please. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Crème De Marrons And Vanilla Bean Twist We support any place where you can sip syrah and take in a spoonful of ice cream a moment later. Especially one with soft serve good that inspires lofty dreams of eating it once a week. It’s a twist, so you’ll get a little zig of nutty flavor and a zag of vanilla. It’s a no-brainer when you want a sugary treat. PlayMute video credit: Gab Bonghi" - Candis R. McLean
