"Rockaway Beach Bakery has all the makings of a tiny bakery in a tiny beach town—it just also happens to be 600 feet from the A train, and less than an hour from Manhattan on the subway. At the counter, Tracy will help you figure out your order, and maybe tell you about how once she won a Twisted Tea giveaway, and is now the proud owner of a branded cutout of her head. If you stop by for pastries on the beach and find that it's already gone, go for the guava and cream cheese danish, or the croissant loaf, made by layering croissant dough leftovers into a bread pan so it tastes somewhere between monkey bread and bread pudding. We also very much enjoy the warm slice of spinach and feta quiche. That’s maybe the first time we’ve recommended a vegetarian quiche over the one with bacon, and that’s because it tastes like a custardy spanakopita." - Willa Moore
