Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream - Review - Bridgeport - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream was supposed to open in April, but, well, the pandemic. After months of operating as a pop-up (and waiting to see WTF would happen with the planet), they finally opened a walk-up window and back patio in Bridgeport. Which is great, because now we can eat their fantastic pizza whenever we want. This place focuses on three things (those three things should be self-explanatory) and we’ll start with the one we’re the most excited about - the pizza. It’s Sicilian pan-style, and what makes it exceptional is the excellent crust. It’s thick and airy, with a golden brown undercarriage - almost like it’s been fried, but not too greasy. There are four kinds to choose from (cheese, sausage, veggie, and a weekly special like soppressata with fennel), and you can either order a full pie or by-the-slice. However you decide to do it, this pizza needs to be in your life. As much as we love the pizza, the chicken should be invited to the party, too. The buttermilk batter is from Kimski (which is right next door), and you can get it as a meal or a sandwich. Both are valid options, but the sandwich is made with the fantastic buns from Butter Dough in McKinley Park, and the buttery softness of the bread combined with the crunchy chicken is a pretty outstanding combination. Now, onto the ice cream. It’s from Pretty Cool, which is easy to find around the city these days. Does that mean you should skip it here? Absolutely not. Clearly, nothing goes better with pizza and fried chicken than ice cream. After all, you heard it here first. Food Rundown Pizza This place has some of the best Sicilian pan-style pizza in Chicago. It’s rectangular, with a delicious, thick, golden-brown crust and you can order it as a whole pie or by-the-slice. And all but the veggie are made with their slightly spicy, house-made red sauce. Fried Chicken Sandwich You can get a three or six-piece fried chicken dinner (it comes with potato salad or slaw), or a sandwich that’s made with a breast, mayo, lettuce, pickled onions, and fries. The chicken is spicy and crunchy, and very good. It’s also very large. Ice Cream They have a lot of different flavors (around 10) of Pretty Cool Ice Cream’s popsicles and bars here. So if you can’t find something that sounds good, that’s probably on you." - Adrian Kane
