"Boulette's Larder does one thing, and it does it damn well: classy breakfast. It's a cozy little nook, nestled on the sunny side of the Ferry Building, that serves up pastries and egg dishes. And that's it. While many restaurants try to be all things to all people, we applaud Boulette's for its relentless lack of expansion over the past decade. (Okay, so they finally did open up another place next door, but still.) The dining room also houses the kitchen, and the shiny hanging copper pots and remarkably relaxed cooks create a comfortable vibe. It's the kind of place that's perfect to bring your mom for breakfast, which is exactly what I did. Such a good son. If you go before lunchtime, your food options will be limited. But that's okay, because they will be limited to deliciousness. We recommend something egg-based, because this is the kind of place that turns out omelettes that seem like they might levitate off your plate and float away. In other words, they are light and airy and a little bit buttery—everything an egg dish should be. Throw a canele and some toast on your order. I guarantee you will be happy. So will your mom. Food Rundown Canele A sugary cylinder shell around an sweet eggy goo center—the idealized version of a canele. Is it my favorite pastry in the world? No. But they're a crowd pleaser. Toast Good bread, good toppings. We recommend the nocciolata (fancy nutella). Don't sleep on the jam, though. Poached eggs It's hard to predict what will come with your eggs - ours have had a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern slant. Always good, though. Scrambled Eggs Some elevated scrambled egg game. I have no idea how these are whipped up to such a degree of lightness, but I have a feeling it should not be attempted at home. Get 'em. Salads What is a larder? A home repository for pig fat. Point being, the salads are good, but I recommend sticking with the protein and fat-enhanced carbohydrate options." - Max Child
