"Manor Rock is kind of a ridiculous restaurant, which we say only to make sure you’re the right candidate for a visit. People in 2014 would have called its style “farm-to-table,” and even that label undersells the orthodoxy at play. The Manor Rock team owns a farm about 10 miles outside of Hudson, where they raise theoretically happy pigs and grow the greenest cucumbers known to man. Crucially, though, Manor Rock the restaurant is more “French tips” than “dirt under the fingernails.” There are floral arrangements larger and more pristine than children, the whole place smells of beeswax, and four out of six dishes totally work. (Though two out of four people dropping off the plates won’t quite know what you’re eating.) Anyone appalled by the thought of a $40 cabbage entree should avoid. But if you’re hot on oyster leaf or want to know exactly what makes the sausage so good (dried lovage), you’ll be glad you came. photo credit: Hannah Albertine RESERVE A TABLE" - Hannah Albertine
