"Nido feels like an Andalusian market that’s been in the family for decades. Except instead of the south of Spain, Nido tucks its wicker furniture and tiled walls into a small storefront in Mt. Pleasant. Inside, young creative director types sip wine next to homeowners between shelves stocked with imported ingredients that you probably tried in Europe, but couldn’t find in the States. There’s Spanish paprika, Italian calamarata, Greek fennel seeds, French grapefruit vinegar, plus all kinds of Mediterranean olives, cheeses, and cured meats. And if you’re thinking that this sounds like the type of place that has tinned fish with colorful labels stacked into a non-perishable mosaic, you would be right. Food is served until 2:30pm, and if the Spanish BLT on fresh-baked focaccia with Serrano ham is available, get it. Other hits include a chilled tomato soup thickened with bread and topped with hardboiled egg, and Basque cheesecake for dessert.
