Mashita Galbi Jjim Review - Polk Gulch - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Go to this laid-back Korean spot in Russian Hill for one simple reason: the big, bubbling bowls of galbi jjim. Unlike other similar galbi jjim restaurants (yes, talking about you, Daeho), you don’t need to endure hours of doom-scrolling before you’re seated. At Mashita, there’s rarely a wait for a table and the galbi jjim is among the best in the city. It comes in one size: massive. For $66, you get three metric tons of perfectly braised short ribs, lots of oversized tteokbokki, more carrots than you know what to do with, and a gooey cheese topping that’s melted via blowtorch. One order could easily feed four people. Everything else on the menu feels unnecessary except for the plump mandu, which you can get if the galbi jjim somehow isn't enough. Food Rundown photo credit: Brit Finnegan Beef Fried Dumplings These golden brown mandu have a crispy sear and are stuffed with juicy marinated beef. Not a must-order, but if any dumpling enthusiasts are present, it’s great to have on your table as an appetizer. photo credit: Brit Finnegan Home Cooked Braised Beef Stew This is why you’re here. It’s a golden goose and you must collect the egg. The galbi is soft, the cheese is gooey, and the stew is rich. Show up with a few of your closest friends and go to town. photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez Crunchy Fried Chicken Wings These wings come in three flavors: original, sweet and spicy, and cheesy crunchy. We found the original lacks seasoning and the sweet and spicy treads into candy territory. We may try the cheesy crunchy another time, but our hopes aren't high. Feel free to skip." - Ricky Rodriguez
