"“It’s what’s on the inside that counts.” You’ve heard that line, probably in reference to a personality or a dilapidated car. It also applies to Santa Catarina, a Tex-Men restaurant at the bottom of a Cherrywood apartment complex with all the sidewalk apparel of a dental office. This is textbook Tex-Mex done well, from excellent grilled fish to flautas and enchiladas you’ll want to order again. The menu reads like a greatest hits compilation, but that’s not a bad thing—the fajitas arrive sizzling, the tortillas are made in-house, the margaritas use fresh-squeezed juice, and the portions are big enough for next-day leftovers. Even on a Friday night, you can usually walk in and find a table. Show up for a drink and some bottomless chips and salsa, or consider Santa Catarina for the next time you and your friends don’t want to deal with the line at Matt’s El Rancho. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE" - Nicolai McCrary
