"Cowabunga is a fun Bridgeport pizza shop with great NY slices and a theme that hits you as soon as you step in—Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and ‘90s kid hangout culture. The walls at this tiny counter-service spot are bright green, action figures sit on the display case, and Turtles movies are ready to go in the VHS player. But the pizzas, like the Donatello and Casey Jones, don’t need character references to stand out. The slices have a chewy, foldable crust and tons of toppings, like the Shredder with well-seasoned italian beef and giardiniera that adds just enough heat. Plan on taking it to go—Cowabunga can get chaotic with families shuffling in and out, and timers beeping from the busy kitchen inches away. But you can play Mario on Super Nintendo while you wait. Food Rundown Shredder The best slice here. It has a great balance of giardinera and italian beef, and holds together with the strength that comes from years of training with a mutant rat. Donatello The pie has mushrooms, tomatoes, the right amount of garlic, and tastes like a margherita. Another huge slice with so many toppings, you expect them to slide off while eating, but they don’t. photo credit: Nick Allen Leonardo This one has pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ham, and a lot of grease. It’s an underwhelming and oily slice. photo credit: Nick Allen Casey Jones The toppings distribution here is a little chaotic, but Cowabunga’s BBQ pizza gets a nice boost from the sweet sauce and grilled chicken. Another satisfying slice. photo credit: Nick Allen" - Nick Allen
