"Opened in 2015 in conjunction with the Milan Expo, this refettorio supports the local community by combating food waste and social isolation in a beautiful space created from an abandoned building revived by designers, architects and artists. Meals are cooked from excess ingredients that would otherwise become waste and transformed by chefs into nourishing, healthy dishes, exemplified by a day when slightly tired basil inspired a pasta with a “pesto” of mint, parsley, thyme and other delicate herbs, with breadcrumbs standing in for pine nuts—an emblem of the belief that “bread is gold,” finished with extra‑virgin olive oil and plenty of Parmigiano Reggiano." - La Guida Michelin
