"With a 50-year history, this is one of the area's best known and most respected wineries, combining soil conservation and preservation of traditions with notable technological innovation. Founder and chairman Maurizio Zanella notes they were among the first to use machinery to wash and dry grapes—what they call a 'berry spa'—a move once mocked as blasphemous after the adulteration scandals of the 1970s, when 'water was considered to be the devil' by many wine-producers. The washing technique, similar to that used in the fruit and vegetable sector, naturally detaches and purifies the berries; although only five wineries in the world use it today, Zanella believes it will become standard practice in wine production within the next 50 years." - Matteo Morichini
