"I’m drawn to the Inn at the Old Jail because it occupies a 1902 Victorian building and national historic landmark that was once a jail and later a library, and is now a boutique hotel run by two brothers. I love the uniqueness and history—there are nine distinct rooms (including a budget-friendly room literally called The Cage with a former inmate’s name carved into the wall)—and amenities like a rooftop deck and a full guest kitchen (there’s no restaurant or breakfast). Rooms feature high ceilings, original hardwood floors, reclaimed-wood wainscoting salvaged after Katrina, antique furniture, queen beds with memory-foam mattresses, and bathrooms with tub/shower combos and classic subway tile; the Tremé location off the tourist trail also makes it a great pick for foodies seeking traditional Creole and Cajun fare." - Matthew Kepnes
