The 5 Best Hostels in San Diego (Updated 2025)

"I really like this hostel's focus on sustainable travel: it has a vegetable garden (guests get free veggies), recycling and composting programs, and backyard chickens. There are plenty of outdoor common spaces, including hammocks, and it's very friendly and social; it's clean, the water pressure in the showers is good, the beds are comfy, and it even offers female-only rooms, which makes it my favorite hostel in San Diego." - Matthew Kepnes
