"A road lined with massive, prehistoric baobab trees feels straight out of a postcard; my guide even casually mentioned that the massive one I was hugging is just a baby at about 400 years old. These uniquely Malagasy trees can grow up to roughly 98 feet tall and 36 feet wide and store enormous amounts of water (as much as 1,000 gallons) to survive dry conditions, but they are endangered by clearcutting and agriculture. While baobabs occur across Madagascar, this avenue — about an hour outside Morondava — is an iconic photographic spot best at sunrise or sunset, though those times also draw the biggest crowds." - Matthew Kepnes
