"Perched above pastoral land, this citadel—originating with the Kakatiya dynasty in the 13th century and later occupied by the Bahmanis, Qutub Shahis and the Mughals—grew into a fortified complex and was historically linked to nearby diamond mines and the diamond trade. The Qutub Shahi period added massive iron-studded gates, concealed water pipelines for sieges and drawbridges; the fort’s ingenious acoustics mean the slightest sound at the entry echoes across the complex to alert guards. Visitors should also seek out the scenic Nagina Bagh garden within the ruins." - Meenakshi J
