The 14 Best Restaurants in Chiang Mai, Thailand - Eater

"Khao soi completists can’t miss this one, one of the city’s most famous (and longstanding) venues for the dish. The bowls served here are rich and fragrant, and unlike most places, which stick to chicken or beef, the options here include pork or even shrimp. A slew of other northern Thai dishes and snacks are also available, making this a great one-stop shop for northern Thai flavors. [$]" - Austin Bush

Finally have a chance to try Khao Soi in Chiang Mai. We were not disappointed. The soup base was full of flavor and i can't stop drinking it. The noodle was chewy and tasty. I end up having 2 bowls, one chicken and the other was fish. Price was cheap as. Must come for a visit.

Good food and most importantly: they do not add sugar to the Khao Soi (unlike many other restaurants do today)! However, the service could be improved, and the place lacks distinctive value.

Traditional Northern Thai style noodle (and other things). Served by local people. Cheap price and authentic taste.

Food was fantastic, no wonder it’s rated as one of the best. Service was very quick and the prices were incredibly cheap! Highly recommended! Note that the soup has a little spice.

Solid menu and execution, but overrun by tourists. I would actually rate this place three and a half stars, but I'm rounding up. I've also come to the conclusion that Chiang Mai locals actually don't eat khao soi that often - it's just a famous local dish of which everybody claims to have a best/original/unique version. To be brutally honest, it's just a tamed down version of laksa and usually not worth it. However, this restaurant serves many other things as well, which is why it gets a good rating. These things are not on any English language menu as far as I could tell, but they are on the wall menus in Thai and some are viewable in pots as you walk into the restaurant. These include shrimp patties, vegetable and noodle dishes, stewed meats, and other interesting things. If you are not visiting with a Thai, I suggest looking at what others are ordering or flipping through photos on the FB or Maps page for the restaurant and pointing.

On a mission to try as many Khao soi here during our Chiang Mai stay so after trying out the nearby place, we decided to eat another bowl of Khao soi here too! Food/price: just got 1 beef Khao soi (50 thb). Very creamy. Not too much soup and not that spicy. Flavor is mild and not too strong which some people may like. It’s a decent bowl of Khao soi but not necessarily my go to place. As always, put in the onion, lime, and pickled veggies that comes on the side for better flavoring. Environment/ambiance: this place wasn’t too busy when we went around 1 Pm. Still available seats with two other parties eating there as well. Waitor took our order at our table. We were provided with a menu which is nice. The guy was very friendly and nice, compared to the other place down the street. Location: taking grab taxi is fine around here but walking around this area is tough because road is somewhat narrow with incoming cars and traffic both directions of the road. No sidewalks either.

Came here to try another famous local version of Khao Soi in Chiang Mai. The Khao Soi itself was very good - spicier than others we've tried in Chiang Mai and delicious. Also need to try the fried chicken here and some of the other side dishes - definitely worth the visit.
