The Best LGBTQ+ Bars In Philly

"If you’ve ever dreamed about going to a bar and romantically locking eyes with someone across the pool table during an Ariana Grande song, then you should go to Tabu. The Gayborhood spot is a full-on sports bar, with a lounge for live shows and game nights upstairs. If talking about Drag Race at the bar or looking coordinated on the dance floor isn’t your thing, they also have good buffalo wings to pass the time until the pool table is free." - candis mclean

Artists Boycott Gayborhood Bar After It Prevented Palestinian Burlesque Artist From Performing - Eater Philly

"On Saturday evening, Gayborhood performers and community members protested outside of local bar Tabu (254 S. 12th Street) following the venue’s recent decision to keep a Palestinian burlesque dancer from performing their act. Leila Delicious, a queer Palestinian-American artist, was denied entry to perform at Tabu because she brought a prop sign with her that read 'Our generation will free Palestine' on the front and 'Biden, demand a ceasefire. If you support genocide, you Isreal dumb!' on the back. After other performers at the bar failed to convince Tabu’s management to reconsider their decision to not let Delicious perform, the performer says she eventually left, and shared her experience on social media." - Ernest Owens

Philadelphia’s Most Festive Spots for the Winter | Eater

"Don your gay apparel for two can‘t-miss parties at Tabu. December 16 is the holiday show, starring Darienne Lake from RuPaul’s Drag Race along with performances from Tabu’s house divas (who typically work mistletoe into their outfits so they can kiss the crowd). Christmas Eve is “Oy to the World,” a dance party for the LGBT Jewish community and allies. Led by Alexis Michelle (another Drag Race alum), there will be lip-syncing, ukulele, comedy, and dancing — plus an appearance by Hanukkah Harry, a Saturday Night Live character from the ‘80s. (Latkes aren’t on offer, but Tabu has a full menu of tater tot dishes.) Top off the night with Kenny K’s Rum Punch, made with BACARDÍ Mango, Limon and Dragonberry rums, triple sec, sour mix, and grenadine." - Vox Creative

Unfortunately, the service at the downstairs bar left a lot to be desired. As non-regulars, we were blatantly overlooked by the bartenders multiple times, even after making direct eye contact. Meanwhile, regulars were greeted warmly and served immediately. It created an unwelcoming vibe that made this one of the worst bar experiences we’ve had. We only stayed because my wife was invited by a friend and we wanted to be supportive. Disappointing.

Came here after Pride Festivities in the streets and it’s a huge place!! Didn’t have a cover when we went. Friendly bartenders and good service. Food is good bar food!! I had the chicken Caesar wrap and buffalo wings, which were incredibly tasty. Multiple levels with bars, karaoke all the way upstairs with some outdoor space. Will definitely be back!

I visited 254 while in Philadelphia with a group of friends, and it was a blast! This multi-level gay bar has something for everyone—whether you’re in the mood to dance, sing karaoke, shoot pool, or catch a drag show. We went on a Saturday night and started off playing pool before settling in for the drag show upstairs. The highlight was a RuPaul’s Drag Race-style lip sync battle that brought great energy and had the whole crowd cheering. It was fun, welcoming, and definitely a memorable night out. If you’re looking for a lively LGBTQ+ spot with variety, 254 is worth checking out.

Fun place but some of the bartenders seem to be prejudice towards women they would purposely ignore me and my friends even tho all of us are queer so it’s was weird vibes and it wasn’t the first time, so I’ll probably stop spending money there unfortunately.

Garbage. Slowest bartender. Not even busy the lunch ladies in high school moved a lot quicker. This place is on life-support and it needs to go nothing compared to 12th air command. The manager, Jeff should look for a new career.

I had an amazing experience and time last night at tabu lounge. I went there with a group of friends and we watched the drag show performance which was amazing 🤩 also the bartender on the second floor was super helpful, sweet, kind, and caring too. He looked out for me and had my best interest to heart. The bartender on the second floor that was working there last night provided exceptional customer service and i really appreciated that as well. The drag queens that performed last night was amazing as well. Super thanks to the whole staff by provided an amazing and wonderful experience for me and my friends.
