I was super excited to visit 2Fifty for the first time after hearing such good things about it. It was good, but a few parts were not as good as they should have been (due to very obvious, easily fixed problems), and overall it didn't live up to the hype (which might be an impossible task since the hype is through the roof).
The space is pretty basic, with some outside seats, a front area where you order, three picnic tables for seating plus a few two-tops, and a case with some refrigerated items, and a soda fountain. At first, I was worried we wouldn't get a seat, but there is also a back dining room area.
The menu is straightforward -- you can order meats in 0.5 lb increments and sides in small or large. They serve a few types of beer and wine, but it's not on the main menu, only a menu paper over by check out. There are no preset platters or combos; everything is a la carte.
You wait in line to order and first get meats, then sides, then drinks and pay.
I visited with two other people and we got a ton of food. We spent $110 and had about 1/3 of the food left over. We got
1/2 lb lamb - comes with tortilla chips - $12.50
1 lb prime brisket - $36
1/5 lb poblano sausage - $10
Esquites (regular) - $7
Mac and cheese (regular) - $7
Brisket Beans (regular) - $7
Three beers - $5 each
The plates came with pickles and pickled red onion. Sauce was a DIY affair, with two options on the table: sweet and spicy.
The lamb was very good, but the tortilla chips were not -- no seasoning, all very brown, looked and tasted burnt.
The brisket was very good, with a great balance of lean and fatty pieces.
The sausage was coarsely ground, which I liked, but I would have liked more spiciness from the poblano.
Esquites were very good
Brisket beans were good
Mac and cheese was extremely watery and not warm enough. Our serving was the first from a fresh tray in the back, so I thought it would be fresh and in great shape, but it was a let down.
Ordering was not as easy as it should be. We placed our meet order, but the guy misheard us and only gave us the brisket, then sent us on to get sides, so we had to backtrack. Then, the cashier got our beers, but misheard us again and thought we only ordered two.
Beers are cheap at $5-$6. I like that their house beer is a smoked lager -- smoked beers are rare but I love them.
I like that they have stations with cutlery, napkins, and to-go boxes so you don't have to ask the staff.
I would go back, but they need to fix their tortilla chip and mac and cheese situation.
