The Best Dishes Eater Dallas Ate in Janaury 2025 | Eater Dallas

"A busy, packed Monday-night spot serving cozy, well-executed bites — highlights include creamy deviled eggs, an exceptional beet and citrus salad, and a standout half roast chicken whose silky, savory au jus practically begs to be sopped up. The bird is paired with crispy Yukon potatoes tucked beneath it, providing a welcome textural contrast to the tender meat and rich jus rather than the more common pave or mash." - Courtney E. Smith

Dallas Restaurant Openings to Know in January 2024 | Eater Dallas

"The latest drop from the Katz family of restaurants serves a menu of comforting, warm dishes and a "killer wine list." The space is entirely booth seating so "everywhere you go is comfy and cozy," and a quick winter-night visit highlighted the roast chicken with au jus and crispy potatoes as a standout — described as a winter dream. The write-up jokingly calls it "officially certified a banger by the Commission of Neighborhood Restaurant Customers. Just kidding, that’s not a thing —" which captures the enthusiastic, tongue-in-cheek recommendation." - Courtney E. Smith

Yelp
Maria F. M. was highly knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent customer service. She was pleasant and friendly to everyone she encountered. Thank you Maria!!!

Yelp
We go here often especially for special occasions! Love the variety of the menu and it never misses. Dutch baby for the win but I also like trying everything else. Their coffee is always good which I cannot say about other similar places. The services has always been incredible here. They are kind and quick even though it's always chaotic from a ton of customers.

Yelp
See review that I posted and trued to add these pictures to. Corned beef, eggs, muffin

Yelp
The eggs Benedict were amazing and would go and get them again. Never had a Dutch baby before and it was wonderful, tasted like a big crepe. The service was fantastic and liked how quickly we were attended to.

Yelp
We waited 20 mins and everyone else got seated before we did. I ended up leaving after they sat a white family before me same party size. And they had just walked it and signed in.

Yelp
My party of 4 wasn't happy. Three got their meals in 20 min. The forth ordered an apple pancake and was told it would take 20 minutes. 43 minutes later and after the others had finished, the pancake arrived. It was not good! Over cooked and no apologies at all. I'm done with them.

Yelp
I usually love my experience at the pancake house however today I don't know if they were in a rush or what happened but I felt that this was a below average experience. I ordered the crepes and when it came to the table it looked like an unfinished plate. I asked my server, where are the lingonberries and she pointed to a small container on my sister's bacon plate along with the butter. In my disappointment I didn't even take a picture because I was so taken a back by whag was put forth to me. The crepes themselves were over cooked with lots of crispy parts. I had to assemble my meal and I ate it but this is not the service I expect when coming to the House especially when I've brought a guest and have raved about the food.

Yelp
Wonderful pancakes! Our favorite place to go for breakfast when in Dallas! You can call ahead and place name on list to avoid waiting.

Yelp
I woke up this morning in the mood for breakfast. My neighbor go to church close to this business. I asked him to pick up some breakfast for me and my husband. My hubby loves the corn beef hash and I like the Pancakes. I wanted a ham and egg breakfast . I was totally disappointed with the food. It was chopped ham mixed with the overcooked eggs. Just plain wheat bread barely toasted. I really thought it was gonna be good. So simple to fix. The corn beef was overcooked as well as his over easy eggs. I spent over 30.00 for both meals. What a way to start the day. I will be fixing my own breakfast from this day on!

Yelp
Was a great place for breakfast after church. Food and service were great and the wait wasn't that long and handled quickly

Yelp
I love the food and going with my family. It's so good when we go and the bacon and pancakes are great The service is always great too. It's a comfortable environment that gives that homey brunch feeling.

Yelp
We used TOPH for catering a birthday at my house and it was EXCELLENT! We got lucky enough to have Alex, the General Manager come serve up breakfast for us! The food was divine, everyone raved about the bacon & sausage, how fluffy the eggs were, and how delicious the pancakes were! My grandpa, who prides himself in his pancake breakfast, even admitted these pancakes were better than his! And that's saying a lot! A 10/10 experience, can't wait to have them come again!

Jacqueline S.

Yelp
We had out of town guest and they loved this brunch spot before their flight home. Excellent food and service.

Yelp
Love OPH! It's consistently delicious, they're prompt in greeting and trying to get you seated, restaurant is always clean, and somehow EVERYONE there is ALWAYS friendly despite how early they must get up to be there for your enjoyment. Get over there and getcha some pancakes

Laurie T.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful food. However. Every time I get this one waitress, she gets the order incorrect. While she does eventually get the right food, it is after others are done. She forgot bacon today and luckily- u checked the receipt to have the charge removed. She's much bit inaccurate and inattentive. Please work with your staff to have it match the food quality!

Jason H.

Yelp
Our server, Oscar, was super attentive and could not have been more on point with the coffee refills. The food was as good as I'd hoped it'd be and I'll surely be back!
google avatar

Sheba B.

Yelp
Maris our server was awesome! Attentive, friendly, and welcoming. Food was great! We tried the Dutch and apple pancakes...delicious! Fast service, spacious, and clean. Would definitely visit when back in Dallas.

Vanessa W.

Yelp
This place was our go to spot. The last few times the food and service were mediocre. We ordered the Western omelette, it had little to no meat but was heavy on onion chunks- who's chopping the vegetables? Our server was a grumpy older man. Y'all have to do better.
google avatar

Yolanda H.

Yelp
The place lives up to the name. The pancakes are consistent with every visit. The waffles are good too. The star of the show is always the corned beef hash for me. I try to change my order every so often. The bacon and sausage patties are hearty. The ala carte prices and up charges are a sticker shock to me. However, it is a dang good spot for breakfast.

Yelp
While we have always enjoyed going to the ole pancake house, this time we found a little disappointing. The food quantities were skimpy in not only the eggs but the pancakes. The latte was good and the staff was excellent as always. But again, it's easy to disseminate during this time when things are tight when businesses start to skimp on items in size and portions. I had ordered the Tramble eggs with a couple sides. The egg portion looked like one egg had been scrambled and spread across the plate. Normally, the pancakes are stacked high and fluffy, but this time they looked flat. We were disappointed by this being one of the to go places for breakfast.

Yelp
I totally surprised by this experience and its normal quality experience at their other locations. Service: This is one of the most important parts of any restaurant or establishment that you would go to. Customer service is a must, and this location lacked a bunch of it. No greeting at the door. Had sign-up tablet but no one was checking that information. After being seated, had a bunch of waiters walk by my table and didn't say anything until I had to stop one to ask for assistance. Once, the waiter came, the waiter was unfamiliar with the menu as they have trouble trying to answer my question about my request. Last, I had to continue to ask for a refill of water instead of occasionally coming by and seeing if I needed anything. Food: Unfortunately, their menu lack the option that the other TOPH offer. Therefore, I had decided to order a regular breakfast that I didn't want. Ambiance: Look like there is a need for a true remodel of this establishment. It sits in a well-established retail plaza but no true ownership seems to be taken place in this restaurant. Old seats, dirty ceilings, old dirty floors and I hate to see what the restroom would look like. Overall: I can't advise anyone to come to this restaurant until improvements are made. There is lack of excitement for this The Original Pancake House.

Yelp
I like this place! No frills, just good food. I ordered bacon & eggs with a side of regular pancakes and apple pancakes for my husband. The bacon is really good, thick but not too thick, and cooked the way I like it. My small pancakes were pretty good too. The apple pancakes was huge. It was good, it had cinnamon glaze. Yummy. My friend ordered crepes with strawberries. She had me try them. It was good, too. I will try those when we come back. I think the portions are good for sharing. Service was friendly.

Yelp

Yelp
I always get a Dutch baby. You have to order it right when you arrive, but always delicious. And this location is so much easier to get into the one on lemmon. Lemmon will have a hour wait for 4 but this location, maybe 15 min?

Nord D.

Yelp
ZERO STARS!!! Arrived 1:15pm, 45 min before closing w/ almost no customers at that time. OPH Pumpkin pancakes are my favorite! Ordered pumpkin pancakes + 1 scrambled egg on the side. Pancakes delivered without the egg. Reminded waitress to bring the egg, that arrived cold 10 min later. Found 3 long blondish colored hairs in my pancakes. Couldn't find waitress anywhere to complain about dirty pancakes + the cold egg. Ate cold egg and only 1 of the pancakes that appeared hairless. No water refills or to ask me how everything was. She only had me and one other customer. Waited over 20 min for the check, so got up and walked back to the kitchen area to ask her to bring my check. Worst experience ever at OPH NW Highway Dallas TX. Left almost 0 tip. Calling General Manager to file a formal complaint.

Yelp
Best breakfast ever! I go often!!! Love the food, everything!!! The coffee is good, too!!!!!! The staff are all outstanding!!!!

Yelp
In Dallas on a day trip with Cohearts for our Southwest Rally. This was an excellent choice. The food was delicious my bacon was cooked to perfection. I ordered potatoes eggs bacon and a waffle. And of course coffee. Our server was very pleasant and polite. She was attentive to refills and coffee. The restaurant is clean and average in noise. I will definitely return to this location upon visiting Dallas in the future.

Marek R.

Yelp
New area very warm, not enough air conditioning. Food okay but the server didn't take our orders right... okay in general.

F. A. S.

Yelp
This location is very consistent. We know what we want and how we want it cooked. The team delivers every time. 49ers came out perfect. Stephanie was our server today. She was great.

Yelp
Woodsman omelette-delicious! Bacon- thick and crispy- best in Dallas! Banana pancakes- to die for! Robert P was one of the best waiters I have ever had. He was kind, attentive and very nice. Pancake house ambiance. Bravo! Tip - check in before you come to the restaurant on the Yelp app.

Yelp
Great family place for breakfast. They have everything including some specialty things like Dutch baby, which is an apple baked pancake. Strong coffee, thick bacon and maple syrup.. what do you want for breakfast? Likely they have it.

Carlos B.

Yelp
had great birthday with family visiting from out of town. loved the hacienda version of eggs benedict. service is really wonderful.

Yelp
LVE it ... Food is amazing & staff is friendly & receptive‼ Dutch Baby is worth the wait

Yelp
Second trip and the same results. Kelly is a great server and the Mediterranean omelette was fantastic.

Yelp
First time here and wasn't very impressed. Granted that we did visit during a rush there but for all the hype, was definitely expecting amazing food and service. Our waitress seemed to be waiting on more tables than could be managed comfortably. I ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict - eggs were more of an over easy situation and food was warm at best. There was a terrible draft and gust of wind where we sat every time the entry door was opened. We could not eat our not so hot food fast enough and get in our car to warm up!

Yelp
I had the Farmhouse Basic and it was just right. Three buttermilk pancakes, two bacon slices, and scrambled eggs. I'm so glad I didn't order toast. The service was amazing, I am going to apologize for rolling in 20 minutes before closing. The family was hangry and I don't look good in a orange jail jumper. The ambiance is that of a coffee cafe, with lighthearted sayings on the wall. I was certainly due for a smile. Picky eater approved!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite breakfast restaurants. I have never experienced a bad day going here. The staff is always friendly and the food is delicious. My favorite is the pecan pancakes topped with strawberries and whipped cream. Their thick bacon is the best.

Lexi D.

Yelp
Amanda was so attentive and lovely! Fabulous and quick service. Food was delicious as always.

Yelp
Food is always good atmosphere needed upgrade or remodel to this location as busy as it is it seems like company would invest in the building....

Bob S.

Yelp
Oscar is our favorite server. We three ate here today. Our nephew is visiting and had never been here before. He enjoyed his specialty omelet, great coffee and the best crispy bacon as did we. Oscar gave us great service as usual and allowed us to sit in a comfortable private booth. Thank you Oscar for making our day so tasty and pleasant.

Layne J.

Yelp
Sundays are busy, but the wait was fine. Healthy Omelette was very nice, as were the pancakes.

Kiera M.

Yelp
The food is always filling and delicious! Sometimes, it can get crazy with it being busy but if you come on week days it's peaceful. The waiters are always friendly.

Yelp
No lack of meat in Meat lovers skillet... that's for sure!!!! Wonderful. Waffle was good too.

Mary Beth F.

Yelp
Pancakes are great, service is great. A side perk is they are near the Addison Tesla charger.
google avatar

Cristal M.

Yelp
Great breakfast place! Service is good, even on a busy day. This is my second time here and I have yet to be disappointed.

Mike D.

Yelp
The Dutch baby and apple pancake are not to be missed. These two items taste exactly like the original place in Portland.

Yelp
Came in on the 03/07/23, a ponytail Hispanic guy was at the host stand, took us to the table and asked us for our drinks, went to the back and told the server " you have two little kids that can't talk on table 1" he spoke on a offensive manner thinking I didn't speak Spanish, the server answer " are you kidding me" ( ay no Mamés) a Spanish offensive slang, me and my girlfriend felt uncomfortable and decided to leave. That's how you speak about customers?? Seriously, next time, which it won't happen, make sure no one's hears y'all. The server complaining about serving us I believe it was Maria, wears glasses. I'm sorry you probably didn't want to serve but you can't talk about customers like that, so unprofessional, disrespectful and left a terrible impression of this place. ( Ivaanc47@gmail.com)

Yelp
My hubby enjoys coming here for breakfast he loves the food and coffee. However in my opinion the coffee is too strong for me. But for the coffee lovers out there this is the place to come for coffee! Now I had the French toast and the toppings were great but I prefer traditional French toast. My hubby had the polish breakfast and his sausage was absolutely delicious as was the sour cream! He got chorizo n eggs vs the traditional eggs and also had cinnamon apples with it. The apples were a bit hard for my liking but they tasted good. The staff are alway friendly so that's a plus as well.
