The 10 Best Restaurants Near Denali National Park, Alaska | Eater

"One of the main reasons people come to 49th State Brewing Company is to take a picture with the infamous “Into the Wild” bus. It’s not the real bus used by doomed adventurer Christopher McCandless but rather the prop used in the movie. It’s also not the only reason to come here. 49th has a ridiculously extensive menu, without a dud to be found. Do yourself a favor and get the King Crabby Grilled Cheese. It comes with chowder for dipping and pub fries and is outrageously decadent. It pairs well with the Solstice IPA." - Bailey Berg

This is a great spot to spend an evening! While the brewery doesn’t have its own parking, there’s plenty of street parking nearby that’s easy to pay for and gives you two hours. There might be a bit of a wait for a table, but you don’t have to just stand around — you can head down to the lower level via elevator, grab a beer, and relax outside while you wait. The atmosphere inside is awesome! Our server was fantastic — super knowledgeable about the menu and helped us choose a few brews we weren’t sure about. The food was delicious! We started with their homemade pretzel and cheese dip — so good! The chowder was excellent — hands down the best we’ve had on our trip so far (and we’ve tried a few!). We also had the tuna poke bowl, which was good — I just wish it had a bit more rice to balance out the flavors better. As for the beer, we took the classic flight option with 4 different tastes, our server recommended one called “Tiger blood sour” — and wow, it was the best I’ve ever had! It had coconut and tropical notes, something I’ve never seen offered at any other brewery in the U.S.

49th State Brewing was recommended to us by our tour guide and what a recommendation it was!!! We absolutely loved it!!! Place was packed with an hour wait to get a table (which is always a good sign), but we were lucky to have snagged two seats upstairs at the bar!!! Bavarian pretzel as a starter was perfect. Huge, enough to share for two. The burger with their dipping sauce was so good!!!! Really nice atmosphere and very friendly service despite how busy they were!

We waited about an hour for a table, but it was absolutely worth it. Once seated on the top floor, we were treated to stunning views that made the experience even better. Our group tried a variety of dishes—including the halibut fish & chips, chicken bowl, crab mac and cheese sandwich, artichoke and crab dip, Parmesan-crusted halibut, and steak. Every single dish was a hit, and everyone left satisfied. Highly recommend!

Google
Really great spot in downtown Anchorage. Awesome selection of beers and tons of outdoor seating for when the weather is beautiful. There is also a beer garden area to grab a brew while you wait for a table. My favorite beer the whole trip was the Arnold Palmer sour. The food came quickly and was very tasty! I got the King crabby grilled cheese. It came with a side of chowder and fries. Overall, it was quite a rich meal but very good. We also got the halibut and chips which were excellent! Highly recommend giving this place a try!

Google
On my first trip to Anchorage in over 40 years, 49th was recommended to me by multiple people and I'm sure glad we didn't skip eating here. The venue is superbly located and we would have gladly eaten outside if not for the steady rain that was dampening our last day in Alaska. The food here was the star of the experience and, as a table of 5, we experienced numerous options. Do NOT skip the crab jalapeño poppers! It was packed, even at 2pm on a weekday (a good sign) so service was slightly slower than I'd have liked, but our server was friendly, helpful, and on top of things. I'll be back!

Google
The atmosphere is cool as well as their great selection of beers! Food was very tasty, albeit a little pricey. I will say the reason for 3 Stars is the service. It took a while for us to get a server, mostly because they had a miscommunication on their team about assigned sections. Even when we needed things it took some time to find our server. I see there are many good reviews, and I am not saying the place is awful, just maybe needs a little more attention to their service. Hope you have a better experience than I did!

Google
Busy busy busy. Definitely where all the cruise boat people go. Food was great and service was good especially considering how packed they were. There is open seating around the downstairs bar so that helps get in faster but other seats were over an hour wait. Food was great, yak burger was fun too. They have vegan options! Very loud because of crowds and music.

Google
The beer was good, the food and service, not so much. It is a very nice place, great build out with nice seating areas. We sat at the bar but basically had to flag down our bartender anytime we needed anything, they never checked on us. The place was busy, but not so much so that three bartenders could not handle the crowd (lunch time on a Monday). To their credit, the beer was very good, I enjoyed their west coast IPA, clean with a bitter finish, and my wife liked their orange sour. We split a tasting of their dark beers, all were on point. We split a fish and chips, which was OK, the fish was flavorless, and the fries, while good, we far too few for the price point.

Yelp
This place is amazing, the staff is great, the views are good and most importantly the food was good, but this was so amazing that I can't describe it enough, it's truly an out of body experience, definitely recommend.

Yelp
Estella was great! Awesome service and wonderful food. Highly recommended. Would go back again

Yelp
Great food, beer, and service! Estilita took great care of us! SMOK beer is a must have and don't forget the house sauce for the fries. Yak and Elk burgers will melt in your mouth!

Yelp
We have ventured up to Alaska for the past to July 4 celebrations, and each time we have found our self at 49th State brewing. We understand why there's always a wait here, and after our second experience, we will continue to come join the line for dinner here! This place is an absolute institution! They've got great beer, the indoor and outdoor seating areas are fantastic. When the weather is nice, sitting out on the porch is awesome. When it's not, inside is bustling, but surprisingly intimate with the large booths that are available. We've sampled a good portion of the menu, including the fish and chips, a couple of burgers (including the Yak burger!) and even explored the healthier side of the menu with a grilled chicken dish and the tuna poke bowl! Literally, everything we've tried. Here is delicious. The burger was particularly memorable. Juicy, well seasoned, and with some delightful cheese and fixings! It was almost too big for one hand! On the way out, there's a gift shop where you can buy hats, shirts, and some of these special offering beers that they have. I brought back a couple of limited releases from last year, including a couple unreal stouts. They were good enough that I checked a bag on the way home! Go here, wait if you have to, eat and drink, sleep happy!

Yelp
Shocking decline in Quality I'm appalled and disappointed. We ordered pickup from 49th State, a place we used to like, and the experience was insulting from start to finish. First red flag: our 4-pack of sodas wasn't in the bag. We went back to the counter and were told they were sold out after we had already paid. No one checked the receipt, no one said anything until we confronted them. Were we just supposed to walk out and eat the loss? Still, we held out hope for the food. That was a mistake. The brewpub nachos with added steak (which we paid extra for) came with no steak at all, no toppings at all too. Just stale, bland chips and cheap cheese. Zero seasoning. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. And the blueberry pie? It's supposed to come with vanilla ice cream in a separate cup. This time, someone had smeared the melted ice cream inside the corners of the box as if to deliberately ruin it. We spent time, money, and gas on this dinner. And what we got back was careless service, bad food, and a complete lack of basic customer respect. 49th State needs to take a hard look at how far they've fallen. I don't think you could ever pay me to ever come back to this place again.

Yelp
So I went to this spot during my Alaska trip and absolutely loved it! It has this cozy bar vibe with a fireplace inside and a fire pit outside, what else do you need! So the crowd was super chill. Outside they had some seating area around the bon fire kind of setting and the parking lot had this cool vintage truck and Alaskan street signs. So onto the food, I started with a yakadilla...yep, a quesadilla with yak meat! First time trying yak and honestly, not bad at all. It was dry, salty and kind of tasted like jerky but it was okay. I just wanted to try it once. Then came the onion ring stacks. These were huge and hands down my favorite. I never had such stacks before! So crispy and so good! Also, tried the smoked baby ribs with BBQ & slaw! They were fine, no complaints. Next I tried the halibut and chips and these were delicious. The fish was fresh and the batter was just the right amount of crispy and flavor. Last and also the least was The vegan flatbread with black chickpeas and lettuce... yeah that combo didn't hit. And now the beer!!! I'm not even a beer person, but I tried two of their in house drafts and OMG they tasted like cocktails in the best way! Check the pics I just couldn't stop drinking lol Oh also had the strawberry thyme cocktail and loved it.

Yelp
We ended up getting our order to go since the place was slammed. Unfortunately when we got the order home my crab grilled cheese was thrown in the box and I had to put it back together which took away some of the enjoyment. My mom and brother were also disappointed with how their chicken tenders were packaged up. The person managing the to go orders was also managing the souvenir store and wasn't very friendly. We might have had a better experience if we were able to stay at the restaurant.

Yelp
Beer: 4 stars. Everything was very good. Views: 5 stars Service: Excellent 5 stars Food: 4 stars. Honestly, while my wife like her Poke bowl, she said it was "good". My Halibut Tacos (see the picture) were buried under a proper salad-- the description made me think just greens in the tacos and maybe a side salad--and I didn't get much flavor from the seasoning on the fish. The sauce was nice, but the who dish felt very dry and there really needs to be more chips. I think they just need to call this a Halibut Taco Salad and scrap the tortillas. Adding the accompanying Pico was kind of pointless because it couldn't make its way to the fish taco because of the greens. Oh and why were there only 2? Is there a tariff on Halibut in Alaska between where they're caught and the brewery?

Yelp
Was so disappointed at 49th. There were numerous empty tables, with 45+ minute wait times. Once we got a table, it took another 30 mins to order. Then another 30-40 mins for our food. We only saw our waitress 2 times. The food was meh, and I had to search for condiments and to-go boxes for my party during our visit. With all the hype, we thought this would be a great way to start our vacation. Thank goodness Wild Scoops was downstairs in their patio to save the evening.

Yelp
Great food, ambiance, and good beers! Definitely worth checking out. I came here twice so it's definitely a good place. The only reason why it's not a 5 star is because it took a while for my food to come when I came on the first day. I could I would give it this place a 4.8 stars. Servers were cool and made you feel welcomed.

Yelp
We had an hour wait for a table because we didn't make reservations. We could have sat in the bar but we wanted a nice table upstairs. They brew their own beer so you have a good selection of unique brews. We decided to vary from the normal seafood choices. We went with tak burger and Bison or buffalo meatloaf. Both were very good. We had o e small glitch in our meal, but the server and manager fixed the problem quickly. If you order an appetizer and meal, you may not have enough room for dessert. We didn't, we left full. Good food, good service, excellent experience. Try them and make your own decisions.

Yelp
Wow! This restaurant is probably my favorite restaurant that we went too on our entire trip to Alaska. Beautiful location, and the view from the 2nd floor is top notch. There is a beer garden below that had a wide variety of beers to choose from. I picked the Tiger's blood, which was a sour beer and tasted like a tropical sweet beer. Very much enjoyed it, and I'm not much of a beer fan. Foodwise we ordered the salmon bowl, another main salmon dish and the yak burger. I HIGHLY recommend the salmon bowl...probably the best bowl I've had in a long time. Salmon cooked to perfection, loads of hearty veggies including beans, corn, pickled onions, avocado and more, and rice at the bottom. Comes with a dijon dressing. Big props to the lad that created that masterpiece. Yak burger was good, but the meat did taste pretty similar to a normal burger. Other main salmon dish(which i forgot the name of) was a neat pick as well. Seafood chowder was a little fishy but still a great grab if you want something small. Has a different flavor than clam chowder.

Yelp
I have family in town so I decided to give 49th another try. Since we're still pre-Memorial Day, the crowds weren't insane. The rest of what I had to say, sadly, still stands. The beer here continues to get better and...the food continues to get worse as the service get progressively more spotty. My Mom and I came in for Mother's Day and the beers were stellar. Their SmÖk is one of the best smoked beers you can get anywhere. Their West Coast Pilsner was as good as my own! The service? We were done with our beers and were kind of waiting for someone to look at us again...it's like we became invisible. Had to flag someone down to get the tab. We came here for dinner last night. The halibut tacos were not good. The halibut was fishy and throat-scrapingly, dry. It came with chips and pico but...the pico cup was so pathetic that there was maybe enough in it for 3-4 chips. My mom got a salad instead of fries, but fries came out. My brother didn't get sauce for his wings. These mistakes are understandable, but the server never followed up with us after the food was dropped off. So he didn't find out till 30 minutes later that my Mom didn't want fries and my bro needed some sauce to dampen up the bone-dry wings. The best way to experience 49th State is to drink their beer. Preferably somewhere else.

Yelp
Been here a few times mostly over the summer. Love sitting out on the patio while soaking in the sun. However, the service is always a bit slow (seems they're short staffed), so I definitely wouldn't go if I'm in a pinch for time. The pretzel is always a hit. We tried the fried calamari which had good flavor, but unfortunately got some pieces that were raw... the staff were really good about apologizing and making things right when we notified them though. The sandwiches are pretty good and fries were nice and crisp. Didn't realize they would charge me extra for their "special sauce" when they asked me whether I wanted it...

Yelp
I stopped by 49th State Brewing in downtown Anchorage right after my flight and it was a great way to launch the trip. The atmosphere was upbeat and welcoming plenty of locals and visitors. Tons of food options for everyone. Didn't sit on the rooftop due to weather but will next time!
google avatar

Jenn M.

Yelp
First off, we did not go for beer so I cannot comment on that. We went because my companion wanted a burger. Everything was fine; although nothing stood out. The person next to me had the Poké bowl and that looked really good and colorful, and I wished I had ordered it. There's a very good view. There were lots of employees and even still, it took a long time for our food to come. It felt like it might've been sitting there for a while as nothing was very hot when it arrived.

Yelp
Made it to 49th State Brewing in the late afternoon for dinner. Sat on the rooftop deck after a bit of a wait for a table. Absolutely amazing view and super lively. It's a great spot in downtown Anchorage. Food and service were solid. You're going for the vibe, view and atmosphere.

Yelp
Loved this place!! Super spacious, open seating, and the staff is just so friendly. Food is great and bought some beers to go as well - a nice souvenir for friends and family back at home! FOOD: Fish and Chips (7/10) - Super solid fish and chips. Really liked the orange / brown sauce, still not really sure what it is but was great. Crab Dip (8/10) - Super sweet and delicious crab with a ton of pita bread. Really nice appetizer!

Yelp
Best staff ever. You walk in and feel like old friends, instantly. Great Notes * Brussels sprouts app - perfect way to get your veggies * Yak burger. Very lean meat but it tastes like an old-time backyard barbecue burger * Beers of all kinds, made in-house * Root beer! Not too sweet, it's perfect Vibes * First off, there's a tabletop fire pit. What! * Does there need to be a second off?
google avatar

Yelp
An amazing beer selection with even better views! The service was great and the tigers blood beer was fantastic.
google avatar

Yelp
The views and beer are why people come here! I thought the beers and sodas were delicious. The food was solid, nothing insanely special but good. It was busy but still got seared quickly with a bigger group.

Yelp
Nick was an amazing server, super attentive and very friendly. We had the beer flight and the beers were excellent. The fish and chips were good, the elk smash was phenomenal. Highly recommend. The first floor is all open seating. The beer garden outside is nice.

Yelp
My husband and I came here on a whim. We wanted to sit on either the second floor balcony or the roof and the wait was only about 30 minutes even with the pride celebration! VERY LGBTQ+ Friendly!! While you wait they have a FULL beer garden on the lowest level where you can even get brats and pretzels etc while you wait OR instead! We ended up only waiting about 10-15 minutes and were seated on the rooftop! This is a very trendy locations with incredible views; mountains, ocean and city. You get to watch small aircraft fly all around you almost level to you. Our server was super fast and nice, he explained the menu very well as first timers and was patient when I couldn't decide on some options. I ordered the blueberry pie which was delicious! I'm not sure how much alcohol they put it in it but if it's a lot then it is DANGEROUS. My husband ordered the arctic roots Alaska cider which was like a more bitter apple orchard. For food, we ordered the Mexican street corn for a starter. It was pretty good, all though it was very lemony which my hubby didn't like. I wish it would have had more mayo in it like true Mexican corn. I got the yak burger as my entree, it was very good, my only recommendation would be for them to make the patty bigger or the buns smaller so you're not getting mouthfuls of just bread. The Husband got the twin peaks burger which surprisingly was just meat cheese and buns aside from pickles. It was very good though!! I knocked it down one star only because some of the plates had crusted old food on them. Very minimal, but still..
google avatar

Laura F.

Yelp
Super busy bar at happy hour, but well worth the wait! They brew their own beer and sodas. I tried the blueberry cream soda today-so good! Portions are huge! Fajita salad had what was clearly a house made dressing and the steak was perfectly medium rare.

Yelp
I'd give this place 10 stars if I could! My experience at 49th State Brewing was incredible, all thanks to their outstanding customer service. A week before my trip to Anchorage, they called to inform me that my reservation for the Friday before the Iditarod ceremony had been mistakenly accepted due to a private event. They apologized, offered a free appetizer, and suggested visiting their airport location instead. Since this trip marked my 49th state visit, I was determined to dine there. When I shared my story, they invited me to stop by on Saturday--one of their busiest days--and speak with a manager. Despite the packed house, they honored their word and found me a seat after a short wait. The service was exceptional--the manager checked in, and my server was incredibly attentive and kind. They could have simply canceled my reservation like everyone else's and called it a day, but instead, they went above and beyond to make things right. Amazing food, great drinks, and even better people. If you're in downtown Anchorage, this is a must-visit! Huge shoutout to Chelsea and Scott, the managers, for exceeding customer expectations!

Yelp
The wait time was pretty long on a Friday night. However, we finally got seated after waiting for over an hour for a table of 4. The atmosphere is loud and busy. Our table ordered the nachos, yak burger, crab grilled cheese, fish tacos, and mushroom pizza. The crab grilled cheese definitely used imitation crab as I could clearly see and taste the artificial stringy texture of the "crab meat." But overall, the grilled cheese tasted pretty good despite using imitation crab meat. The yak burger was incredibly juicy and tender and paired well with the sauce in the burger. The pizza and tacos were sub par, and I would probably not order it again in the future. Our server was pretty cold to us, which we thought was strange. He barely checked up on our table and took a long time to refill our waters. We asked for the check and to-go boxes at the same time and had to wait an extra 25 minutes for him to bring the to-go box after paying for the check. He also stood over me as I was typing in the tip amount on the credit card machine which made me incredibly uncomfortable. Overall the food is not bad, but the service and wait time was very off putting.

Yelp
What an absolutely horrific experience!!! We went for a late lunch, arriving about 1:45 pm, and were told to expect a 15 min wait. We were then handed menus and sent upstairs to another hostess stand where they tried to determine which of the ready tables to serve us at. Once we were seated, we sat, and sat, and sat, and sat with no one coming over to acknowledge us. Finally after 20 minutes with no wait staff coming to the table, and having watched all the tables sat after us ordering I approached the hostess to ask if there would be someone coming to our table. This was followed by a blank stare and then a quick exit to stage left. 10 minutes later someone finally came...with not a single sorry or any other recognition of the delay. We finally were able to place our order, but wish we had just conceded this place as a loss and got up and left. The food was definitely NOT delicious. Between the 3 of us, we had the fish and chips (Alaskan halibut), the fried shrimp basket, and the Fireweed pizza. By far the least offensive of the bunch was the pizza, but even that was not particularly good. The food arrived lukewarm, the fish and chips, and the shrimp basket was soggy and just swimming in grease. I cannot comment on the drinks, as we were just having water. Do yourself a favor and SKIP this experience...it is not one any person should be subjected to.

Yelp
This place was recommended because of the location. The view is really beautiful and the atmosphere is upbeat. They have Yak Burgers which are a must have and was really good and grainy! The Yak burger was cooked perfectly and all burgers have a cheese or spicy sauce. I had the ELK burger which was ok. I definitely recommend the Yak burger. The rest of our friends had fish and chips and burgers which were all yummy. Service is ok. Most of the workers were there for summer and our waiter announced more then once that he was tired and ready to go home which was as a bit unprofessional along with catching him a few times drinking beer in the waiter area. All in all it was good. I definitely recommended the view and the beer. The specialty drinks are a bit too expensive for the taste so I stuck to beer!

Yelp
Stay for the sunset at midnight Very nice Service is good , lots lot selection for beers

Yelp
I visited on a Saturday around 5pm for an early dinner. The bar area was crowded. I took this as a good sign. Seating was opened for you to sit anywhere. I found a nice table near the window. Loved the rustic decor. It made me feel like I was in an Alaskan Lodge having a drink and dinner. I wanted to try some of the Alaskan caught fish I had seen advertised in the area. The halibut tacos were amazing. I chose the beer batter for the fish in the taco. The fish pieces were generous filling the taco. The added slaw made them messy but oh so good to eat. Service was good even with the large crowd. The server was attentive and I did not wait long for my order to be delivered to my table. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
Always have a good meal here. I've been here around 5x over the years and always been satisfied with food. Parking isn't the best for downtown so uber if you can. They get BUSY!! Even with 3 floors for the summer with the patio there is sometimes still a wait. The main floor is open seating. I wish they still had the yakadilla it was good! I recently had their halibut and chips and it was very good. Nice thick big cut pieces of halibut. Fresh and tasty. I enjoyed mine with malt vinegar. The Yum Yum Chicken Bowl is a light refreshing dish perfect for summer. I love the sweet, spicy, crunchy, bright flavors of it. Huge portion enough for 2 meals at least! The Parmesan crusted halibut is also delicious as well as the prawns. Loved the calamari. This isn't the frozen fried junk you'll find at other places! Beer cheese with chips is also excellent! Enjoy a flight of their beer while you're here! We did a custom flight and enjoyed exploring all of them. Super tasty! Their house made rootbeer and raspberry soda are also tasty. (My only complaint is the music is a bit too loud every time I've sat on the main floor and I can't hear my partner.) Would love to see the improv show come back in the basement.. We skipped dessert here but Wild Scoops is in their lot outside and totally worth saving room for ice cream!

Yelp
I'm visiting Anchorage with a group and this is the first place we ate. I was really impressed by all of the food, as well as the local drinks. I had the meatloaf and the seafood chowder. Buffalo Meatloaf was very good, while the chowder was amazing! Service was great and the view outside on top of the building was beautiful. I will definitely return.

Yelp
Very expensive! But must try the Elk Burgers & King crab !! Very small Halibut , considering so much seafood/ water all around & fish ; portions are ridiculously small & priced high ! Ambience on rooftop is great!
google avatar

Gretchen D.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Very friendly. It is a bit of a tourist trap but the beer and food is good. Prices are high by lower 48 standards, but that's Alaska. Food was large portions and good. Nice outdoor area with firepits and such.
google avatar

PJ S.

Yelp
The ambiance, the food... so good! A place you'll want to visit. We had to come twice! We came to dine on a Friday night in April. We were invited to seat ourselves and found two spots around a gas fire pit. We ordered their specialty drafts, and for dinner, a Poke Bowl, and Fish and Chips. We can both say that the Fish and Chips were firm yet tender like eating a white steak. Juicy and breaded to perfection. The Poke Bowl was deconstructed. The freshness and compilation of different flavors made it hard to resist eating the entire thing! Portions were perfect! Service was expected to be a little slower, as it was packed!!! Our second visit was just as good! Visit their gift shop for some Flight Glasses to take home, shirts, hats, and more!
google avatar

Daniel V.

Yelp
Was a bit let down with their signature Yak burger. Found the beef and the pretzel bun to be a bit dry. The tots were also cold and soft. For the price, I would not recommend this entree. The wedge salad was great though. It was a hefty portion of fresh, crisp salad topped with a load of bacon pieces. The clam chowder was also good, with a decent amount of clam pieces. We waited quite some time for our food to come out with no updates from the staff. And it was frustrating when the appetizers came out after the entrees. They also hid a kitchen service charge in the bill which I hadn't seen before.

Yelp
We loved this place. It's our first time in Alaska, so we figured we had to try their popular brewhouses - and this one did not disappoint! Even though it was a little rainy, we sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful view of the mountains in the distance. They even gave us blankets!! We got the beer flight to try out their brews and REALLY loved the "smok" one. It tastes like a delicious campfire. Their food was spectacular, was not expecting greatness from a brewery but they delivered! Never had elk before, yummy. Seafood chowder was delicious and had loads of variety in it. I want to come back here (if i can) and get a sweatshirt so I can rep em around LA!

Yelp
Always a favorite whenever I am in Anchorage! I had the Alaska wild king salmon and my friend had the halibut. Both were delicious! It can get pretty busy, but their service is always great. Our server was Kim and she was kind and attentive the entire time despite it being very busy.

Yelp
49th State makes their own drinks.... It's what they are popular for. It took more than 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us or offered to get us drinks. Once we were served, the waitress was good and gave recommendations. She said the Fish and Chips were a healthy choice - not greasy (not true). The atmosphere here surprised us. The main floor is self seating and the two floors above have reservations. For a place that was busy; the sound didn't echo off the walls, the lighting was dim enough but well lit. The music was calming. This and the drinks we would come back for - and the opportunity to find the one thing on their menu they are amazing at.... We got the crab spinach dip as an appetizer with chips. This was good with maybe a little too much cheese - still good. My husband got the seafood chowder; he said the Rolls were better than the chowder. I had the Fish and Chips. Starting with what should have been what they say they are known for, the fish its self had no flavor other than the grease it was fried in. No salt, pepper or anything. The fish was also overcooked and very dry - with grease mixed in. The fries were not anything special but better than the Fish.

Yelp
Good food. Had the elk burger. Another of us had the yak burger. Nice microbrews. Worth the stop

Yelp
'Ello Chaps, Wow. Ask a local or former tourist for food recommendations in Anchorage, there are two spots you'll consistently get -- one of them being 49th State Brewing, for good reason. A popular spot in the heart of downtown Anchorage, the menu boasts a large selection of local beers and grub -- burgers, salads, fish and chips, and more. It's a unique menu with their own twist. It's all just so well done. I could go on and on about how good the food and ambience is, but just trust the repeated recommendations of this place. It's well worth the visit. Overall I give 49th State Brewing 5 Stars out of 5.

Yelp
The place was busy, so it's obviously a popular spot. We were able to find some seats at a round table with a little fireplace in the middle. There were a lot of options on the menu. I went with the King Crabby Melt. It domes with a small amount of their seafood chowder and fries. The sandwich was really good, the chowder was good, and the fries were really excellent. We also had very good and very friendly service!

Yelp
Pretzel - 3.5 stars - good pretzel, cheese sauce is just ok Twin peaks Burger - 3.5 stars - just a good double cheeseburger Elk Burger - 2 stars - pretzel bun wasn't all that... it was too mushy and not really a good compliment to the elk meat - elk meat was just ok - pickles, although a large handful, was fine Draft beers - 4 stars - I tried a lot... Great beers

Yelp
We loved visiting this watering hole on our brief stay in Anchorage. Located in the downtown area, this three floor establishment was very popular with both locals and visitors alike, there was a line out the door when we went on a Thursday afternoon. Don't fret however we were served am outdoors seat on their ground floor patio with live music as well as rooftop bar seating as we waited for our seat to open up for food. The beer selection was vast and had fantastic IPA, lager, and sour options, as well as a bunch of home made sodas and seltzers. I went with the tiger blood sour which was the perfect mix of tangy and sour on a warm summer Alaskan day. When we got seated for food we ordered the salmon rice bowl and a seafood chowder. The chowder stood out to with large chunks of salmon, crab, and potato, while the rice bowl was tasty with its honey mustard dressing and a healthy serving of the red Alaskan salmon. The roofpo vibes were perfect with a skyline and mountain view of the city, what a great spot to unwind during the summer season!

Yelp
A great brewery. The bar area is big and first come, first serve. Service was excellent; Luckas was great. The seafood chowder was very flavorful and creamy. The buffalo chili was delicious. Good meat chunks and great heat but overly spicy. The beer flight was a good choice to try different craft beers of theirs.

Yelp
We came for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon in January 2025. They were pretty dead. The bottom floor is all open seating. We chose to go upstairs. Our server was ok. She kind of acted like she didn't want to be there. By the end she had perked up a bit. We got two beer flights and I was surprised they were out of quite of bit of the beers. They had a s'mores stout that was pretty good. They also had an apple pie ale and it tasted like apple pie. It was interesting. The soft pretzel with beer cheese is really good. For lunch I had the crab grilled cheese and I did not like it. I should have known when I order crab sandwiches or anything other than straight crab it tastes really fishy. Plus the cheese was a strange kind and it was barely melted. Fries were ok and the seafood chowder wasn't bad. I'm just not into the food I guess here.

Yelp
The food and service are awful. The bartender was miffed by the mere existence of customers. Our server was pleasant but very absent. The food is so sad. Canned chili is better than what this place serves. Three of four beers of my flight were good; two were quite good. Highly recommend grabbing a Tripel on the top deck and going on your way.
