50 Kalò

"A mix of pizza - makers’ slang and Neapolitan dialect, the name of this new restaurant roughly translates as ‘good mixture’. Here you will find modern cuisine with solid traditional roots thanks to the owner, Ciro Salvo, who was brought up in the pizza business. Choose between traditional pizzas and those personalised with seasonal produce, all accompanied by a small selection of wines." - Michelin Inspector

Excellent pizza!! My favorite was the nduja pizza, hard to choose which pizza to order since they all sound amazing. This location is popular so there might be a wait for table but definitely worth it. The service was great as well

Quite Possibly the Best Pizza in the World! As a big pizza lover, especially Neapolitan style, I’ve tried many places, including several in Naples itself, but 50 Kalò remains my absolute favorite. It has never disappointed. The quality is incredibly consistent every single time. And to top it off, you pay less here than at many other places; unbeatable value for such high quality. You can really taste the freshness of the ingredients; the tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil all shine. It’s also the only place where I don’t feel the need to ask for extra spicy olive oil. They finish the pizza with a perfect drizzle of oil, and it’s so good that it doesn’t need anything else. That says a lot. Personally, I think the classic pizzas are the best (though that might just be my taste), and they’re done to perfection here. The service is wonderful too, a hardworking team that always stays kind and welcoming, even during the busiest hours. Yes, the waiting time can be long depending on when you go, but for us, it’s absolutely worth it. I’m happy I don’t live in Naples otherwise I’d be there every week. A must-visit for any true pizza fan!

Google
This is by far the best restaurant I have been to in years. The service was helpful and friendly, the food was delicious and very fairly priced. I had the best tiramisu I have ever had anywhere. Marco our waiter was funny, helpful and courteous. We couldn't have asked for more. The price I've listed does not include drinks

Google
Loved by the locals, so expect some wait time. One of the best pizzas I’ve ever had- sadly we weren’t that hungry at the time and couldn’t enjoy multiple items on the menu. But the yellow tomato pizza and suppli were the best ever. A bunch of friendly faces to welcome you too.

Google
Excellent experience and the pizzas were fabulous 👌 by far the best we've had on holiday. My only comment would be we did struggle with the menu since there was no English version so we had to spend extra time to use our phones to translate but still was well worth it. The restaurant is always full with a que of people wanting to get in. Fast service and the pizzas came out in no time. Can see why the locals love the place. Great price is well, could never get a great pizza like this at this price in the UK.

Google
This place never disappoints. Just a short walk from the Lungomare, 50 Kalò offers quick, efficient service and a relaxed atmosphere. You can sit indoors or outside, but on a beautiful day like today, the outdoor seating is ideal. I ordered the Diavola pizza and it arrived within minutes—perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

The best pizza I have ever had. Not a pizza lover at all, but this one made me order one more. The ambience is perfect, wonder when they get the Michelin star

Google
Absolutely the best pizza we’ve had the chance to try in Italy. Out of many places with similarly high ratings, this one truly stands out for several reasons. During our short stay, we ended up eating here twice - something we NEVER do, as we aim to explore new spots everyday. But this time, we just had to come back. First and foremost: the pizza itself. Perfectly balanced in flavor, wonderfully aromatic, with an ideal texture. Remarkably, it was also incredibly easy to digest, even for someone with a very sensitive stomach, which is almost unheard of. The Buffalo Margherita especially caught our attention - the cheese was outstanding, and the tomatoes… out of this world, unlike anything we’ve ever tasted before. The tuna and onion pizza turned out to be an unexpected but surprisingly delicious combo too. We also tried the zucchini and mint frittella which was full of flavor and perfectly seasoned. The service was warm and efficient - we waited no more than five minutes for our pizzas. In short: an absolute gem. Highly recommended!

Yelp
The pizza I ate at 50 Kalo was definitely in the top 5 pizzas I've ever had. Delicious dough, flavored products, professional and friendly staff. My party of 8 went on a Monday evening and didn't have to wait at all. The pizza was fantastic, but the pistachio cheesecake was out of this world. I would call it more like a cream pie, but it was still so amazing. Everyone should absolutely try the pizza and desserts here!

Yelp
Came here after hearing so many good things, and it was indeed a very good experience, albeit not quite 5 star quality. Frittatina di bucatini (€2.50) - This little ball of fried pasta was a unique dish, at least for me, which I enjoyed. It was fried on the outside yet still soft and creamy on the inside. Ripieno fritto classico (€9.50) - This was essentially a fried calzone, and it was gigantic! It literally barely fit on the place, although upon closer examination, there was actually a lot of air inside. Still, it was a very large portion size. It was pretty tasty too with some typical calzone ingredients. The restaurant has lots of seating both outside and inside, and I did not have any wait for a table for weekday dinner. It's a pretty nice environment and the staff are very friendly and attentive (there are lots of them walking around checking on people). The service speed was fast too. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience at 50 Kalo and would recommend it, particularly to anyone interested in the fried/normal pizzas (there are lots of options to choose from).

Yelp
The service here is absolutely awful. From start to finish it was rude, cold and inattentive. There's a wait here always because they claim not to take reservations. Yet somehow, only certain people are able to sit inside. If it's first come, first serve then it will be possible for anyone to sit outside or inside. The hostess in charge of the wait yelled at us for even asking to sit inside. We waited for 30 min. A few people came and didn't even have to wait. They just went right inside. Strange for a place that doesn't take reservations. Seems like they favor locals and their friends. Most importantly! The pizza is not good or remarkable enough to make up for the service. I thought maybe it'll all be worth it for the pizza. But it's very basic Neapolitan pizza. You can find it in every city in Italy. No need to waste one's time and come here. No clue why on earth it's so popular. Better pizza is easy to find. The sauce was bland and lacking. Crust was typical. Bufala was thick and chewy.

Yelp
This place is rated as a top pizza joint in all of Naples. They have a lively outdoor patio and very nice indoor seating. The service is great and quick. The food is remarkable. Easily the best pizza I've ever had in my life!
google avatar

Yelp
Worth the hype! After getting this recommended from so many people, we knew we had to stop by. Yes you have to put your name down and wait but honestly the time flew by. You're just a part of the Naples energy at that point. The pizzas themselves are so freakin good! The crust is exactly what you're looking for in a solid Neapolitan style pizza. I had the Potato and Provola which was like a mashed potato sauce with smoked Mozzarella. It's for sure one to try. If you're in Naples, get a Taxi and go here!
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
At #7 world and #4 of the best Neapolitan pizza in Italy, 50K is consistently solid pizza. The quality is top notch, service is quick, and there is not a pizza on the menu that can't meet your desire to come back and keep trying more. You want burrata, they have; salami, they have; or just plain Margherita. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and the interior is nice but not so fancy. Everyone is welcome. They don't take reservations as many reviewers point out, so recommend going as soon as they open or closing time. Otherwise, put your name on the list and enjoy the scooters passing by. It is indeed worth it.

Yelp
We looked hard for the best pizza in Napoli! This was a difficult task as there are so many pizzerias. All the guides seemed to indicate that 50 Kalo was one of the best and it sure did not disappoint. The line is long outside but after about 30 minutes we were seated outside. You don't come here for the ambiance as there is none but to savour one of the best Neapolitan pizza you will ever have. We took the classic margarita which came exactly like it should: as chewy crust a little soggy in the middle because of the tomato sauce and olive oil and elevated on the side. The spicy sausage one had a little tangy flavor that was so good! We definitely would come back if we ever make it again to Naples

Yelp
Found this gem while searching for best pizza in Naples. We arrived at 6p, but they do not open until 6:30p so we had to wait outside until the opening time. A line started forming right at 6:30p. They fill up quick. We sat inside since it's so hot in Naples in July, but they had a nice spacious patio for outdoor seating. The pizza is 10/10!! We ordered the Baba for dessert since we wanted to try something new -- wasn't a big fan of it (5/10). It's basically a piece of bread soaked into sugar and liquor (possibly). Next time would go with the tiramisu for dessert. Overall, great experience.

Yelp
Very rude hostess girl working Sunday September 8, 2024. She didn't call my name after 30 minutes of waiting next to her. I went to her to ask about my name not being called and I saw on her clipboard that all the names around my name were scratched out. Meaning she purposefully didn't call my name but I was standing next to her the whole time. After I reminded her about my name, she then sat us outside. I asked to wait for a table inside but she refused. I watched her seat other people who came after me sit inside. Very bad experience with the rude hostess. Outside was hot and full of cigarette smoke.

Yelp
Among the many good to great pizzerias in Naples, 50 Kalò ranks among the top-3 for its exceptional Neapolitan pizzas and its fried pizza. Service is great. Staff is friendly. Great vibe. Comfortable & spacious. It's a big restaurant. We love the outdoor seating especially during COVID. For our big party, we preferred outdoor seating. We ordered many pizzas with different toppings to try, we love every single one they brought out. If you haven't tried their fried pizza with cheese on the inside, you must!!! It's so good. 50 Kalò is on the Michelin guide book for a reason. We all gave this restaurant two thumbs-up. This place came highly recommended by a local friend.

Yelp
Classic Neopolitan pizza made with the best ingredients and they are well known for their super hydrated dough and long fermentation. Some of the the best Neopolitian pizza ever. Very nice location in a roundabout, great service - they have this down! We shared the margherita, one with salami and squash blossoms and one with sardines and tomato sauce. ALL fantastic. If you LOVE Neopolitan pizza don't miss this place!

Yelp
Perfect pizza. The global bar for pizza. Great staff, reasonable price, easy ordering.

Yelp
Pizza like I've never had before. A bustling restaurant we still got seated in very quickly. The staff were helpful and attentive and all gorgeous! There was very little talking once our order arrived, which is always a good sign.

Yelp
Had a nice meal here last night. The wait on a Saturday evening was about 1.5 hours but we were lucky to get a table inside on a hot night. We had a margherita pizza and a mushroom one with white sauce. Both were delicious! Service was okay, the restaurant is definitely one of the nicer ones I've been to in Naples. The tiramisu dessert was delicious!!

Ashley G.

Yelp
The pizza was dry and I'vs had better in the states. Save your time. Staff were friendly.

Yelp
I have come to this establishment for a few years now (excluding Covid). Stayed in Naples specifically to come eat here. I am currently sitting at the restaurant. Was the first in line at 5:50PM (2 people) excited for our dinner. Sat down in a room of 11 people, 9 of which have already finished their meal. It is currently 7:17PM and just got our pizzas. Sad experience this evening:-/

Yelp
We ordered from Uber Eats across the city and the pizza was still super hot and fresh by the time it got to us. We had pizza at least a dozen times on this trip but 50 Kalo was great and I'm sure it would have been even better if we ate there in person. I had the calzone and my boyfriend had the margherita. Both were amazing and we will definitely be coming back on our next visit!

Yelp
Great pizza but extremely rude staff and the service took 2 hours. No one checks on you, they simply don't care

Yelp
Quick & friendly service. Amazing pizza. Great beer. Pizza with 'nduja & a blonde beer anytime!!

Yelp
Came here with the lads over summer- absolutely terrific service with food that came out quickly. Could not recommend a place more with amazing atmosphere and even better experience. Come to 50 Kalò for a good time.

Yelp
As a third generation Pizzaiolo, Ciro Salvo is best known for his super-hydrated dough, and at 50 Kalò an exceptionally light Crust without much char is married to exceptional ingredients for a Pizza that has not only been named Naples best, but also the best in all of Europe (outside Italy) for its London incarnation. Originally opened in February 2014, and challenging convention at that time by attempting to transform Pizza from a humble dish into something gourmet, 50 Kalò resides in Napoli's Mergellina district, and outside tourist-central Salvo's skill can frequently be found without the extensive queue common at da Michele or Sorbillo. Taking a scientific look at his Dough, low Protein, high hydration and staged fermentation creating the pronounced cornicione around a center less sloppy than "traditional" Neapolitan Pies, it is seated amidst modern confines that guests are offered a variety of choices, Beer and Natural Wines occupying a whole separate menu. Called the World's 3rd best by 50 Top Pizza, a meticulous approach to Ingredient sourcing detailed across Fritti and Pizza, it was after considerable debate that a Fried Pie was selected to start, 50 Kalò's slow-cooked Sugo a beautiful balance of sweetness and acidity that is nicely complimented by a snow-like dusting of aged Parmigiano Reggiano. Utilizing Olive Oil from Irpinia Hills, plus the same Eggs featured at Michelin 2 and 3 star Restaurants in Rome, it was once all four of the Montanara's delicate slices were consumed that two uncut-Pizzas arrived, the eponymous 50 Kalò a Cheese-less lesson in top-quality Produce while Finta Carbonara recreated the iconic Pasta's flavor profile atop a hint of Yeast and smoke.

Yelp
This was literally the best and freshest pizza my boyfriend and I have ever had!! This was margherita pizza with added on prosciutto AMAZING!! We're already back in Boston and still thinking about this pizza. And their white wine was the best I've ever had - Greco di tufo docg highly recommend!

Yelp
This place is one of the best pizza restaurants in the world for a reason! It is well worth the wait but get there at 545 or after 9 if you don't want to wait too long for a table. Don't miss this spot when in Naples we have been recommended it to anyone we know traveling to Naples. I have never had a better pizza!
google avatar

AJ A.

Yelp
Wow the pizza here is absolutely delicious. According to them pizza had started in Napoli about 300 years ago and they have perfected their art. The pizza here is very different that the pizza in the US. The crust is extremely thin and soggy and a medium size pizza is like a 5-6 bites. We ordered there famous margarita pizza which was fresh mozzarella, sauce and crust. What makes their pizza good is the fresh ingredients and you can smell the natural smell of how the ingredients should be. We also got the fried pizza, stuffed pizza with ricotta and tomato sauce which was fried. Again very thin but the quality of ingredients non gmo and smells fresh. Great customer service, would come back here for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
While the pizza is great the service is horrible !!! Waited over 40 min to get a pizza and others were getting pizza next to me . Get it delivered and save your money .

Yelp
I've been meaning to write this review for 2 years. Coming from the NY area, we have some of the best pizza in the the US but it doesn't even come close to 50 Kalo. I met a couple while waiting for a bus at 2am in Positano, Italy that spoke English and we chatted for a bit and he recommended that I have to go to this neighborhood called Mergellina in Naples. Needless to say, we took his advice and got on a local bus (what a nightmare) to get to Mergellina. When we arrived, my gf was hangry so I decided to find a place that was really good. I went on Google maps and found this to be the closest pizzeria. Little did I know, this was voted as one of the best pizzerias in Naples. The crowd outside the place was absolutely nuts. We knew we stumbled upon a gem of a restaurant when during the weekday there was an hour wait and nobody spoke a lick of English. I ordered the Margherita (€7.50) and my gf ordered the marinara (€5) and we both ordered a few glasses of wine. OMG did the Buffalo Margherita blow my mind. It was the best pizza I have ever tasted in my life. The dough was perfectly cooked, having both soft and chewy parts and burnt and crispy parts, the sauce was unbelievable and the buffalo mozzarella was the freshest, best tasting cheese I've ever had. Such simple ingredients came together to make a masterpiece. I would hop on a 10 hour flight and go back to Naples just to have this pizza again. Mind you, we had pizza almost everyday we stayed in Naples and it didn't even come close to this place. If you are ever in Naples, grab an Uber and route it to 50 Kalo!
google avatar

Jean L.

Yelp
We were recommended by 2 different locals, but me and my friends all thought it was quite average. I had pizza with pepper and they had unvergetarian ones

Greg M.

Yelp
Best pizza I've had in my life. I say this without any hyperbole. My wife and I were literally having an EMOTIONAL reaction to eating this pizza. Absolutely incredible. Staff was great and despite the language barrier, they were friendly and helped us with recommendations. They even cut our pizzas in half and plated them separately for us to each have our own, which we didn't even ask for. If you're in Napoli there's certainly plenty of places to choose from, but I can't recommend this place enough. Get the Margherita Con Bufala and the Prosciutto Cotto E Parigiano.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
This restaurant came highly recommended from a local grocery store employee. It was located on a busy piazza and the place was hopping, even at the early hour of 8:30pm. The menu is all in Italian, but out google translate app was very helpful. Also, our waiter spoke some English and was able to confirm that the "marinara" and the "50 Kalo Marinara" pizzas were both completely vegan. The service was friendly, the pizza was heavenly, and the place was full of locals. The restaurant prides itself on embracing the slow food movement and using locally sourced ingredients. So what this meant is the tomatoes on my pizza were the most amazing I'd ever had, the buffalo mozzarella was the most amazing I'd ever had, etc. The pizzas were quite large and we noticed (after we'd ordered) that a bunch of locals had the restaurant split them and only ate a half. If you do this you can eat more gelato later! As we were leaving around 10pm there was a line out the door. This was definitely a hip and happening place. Check it out for amazing Naples pizza!

Sriya K.

Yelp
Excellent food, good prices. Wait time is insane with locals and tourists, but that's how you know it's good :)

Rajan S.

Yelp
We tried 50 Kalo on the day we arrived in Napoli from Southern California. The pizza was good and we were very hungry. The waiters do not speak any English and they can be rude at times. The attitude and communication style of the waiters needs to improve. Recommended if you are hungry and close by.
google avatar

Gabriel G.

Yelp
Good Pizza servers wanted us to leave at some point which is not very Italian. Get wine instead if. Beers and I think they treat you differently.
google avatar

Ricky Q.

Yelp
Great pizza spot in the city of pizza!!! We were there a couple of weeks ago, and it was pretty packed. I can't imagine coming here during tourist season. We had to try the OG margherita pizza and also got another one with prosciutto. It was very flavorful and the right amount of soft and crispy. They had a nice wine and beer selection from all over Italy. Will definitely return if we're ever back in Naples.

Paul T.

Yelp
The pizza here is a modern take of your typical Neopolitan classic. Only the best ingredients from southern Italy. Even though the ambience feels more upscale than the other pizzerias, the prices remain quite adequate. The restaurant seems to be quite popular with the locals.

Maurizio P.

Yelp
Pizza buona ma c'è di meglio, attesa lunga, servizio medio. A mio parere la fama non è meritata.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
A coworker who used to live here and speaks Italian brought me here for dinner. It's on the side of a large traffic circle / roundabout. My coworker pulled up to the curb in his car and backed up to the curb with the nose of the car pointing out into the traffic circle. Some random dude walked up to us, and my friend paid him a few Euros and we walked away. I guess that's the guy who watches the cars and provides them "protection" while you're eating dinner. We sat at a table outside on the sidewalk under a white canvas canopy. The place was full, and I'm pretty sure we were the only Americans in the place. I don't think the staff spoke English (that's not a complaint - it's a black mark on me for not speaking Italian). Service was friendly and prompt and the food was delicious. We had a GREAT dinner here and I would love to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great location, great pizza, great local, their own, lager beer. Love thus place. Prices are very, very reasonable!

Yelp
Still to this day one of the best pizzas I ever had. I was in Italy for 2 weeks and decided to visit this spot after seeing it on Action Bronsons' F*** That's Delicious tv show. I walked a couple miles for this spot and It did not disappoint. Simplicity is the beauty of it on the Margherita Pizza. 500 degrees for one minute in a brick oven....doesn't get any better. Beautiful neighborhood and close to the water. Can't wait to go back one day.

Yelp
The pizza and appetizers were great, the wait was not. Approximately 50 minute wait when we got there around 8pm. Apparently this is a Michelin one star. Atmosphere: The outdoor seating was casual and seemed to be nice to be seated there. Thankfully we were seated indoors where there was ac. We were grateful after a long day outdoors in the heat. Food: The menu was all in Italian so we just guesstimated what we should get. We ordered what an acquaintance recommended: Classic Margherita pizza with buffalo cheese, the two appetizers ( potato bacon cheese croquette & pasta croquette ). The pizza was a classic. The buffalo mozzarella was extremely fresh. One thing I regretted was not getting the deep fried pizza! It looked like it was a super popular dish. Tldr; Try it out and if the line is long you can walk along the side of the water and enjoy the view!
google avatar

Yelp
No need to say much in terms of the food. Great pizza. I can see why locals rate it as one of the top 3. Best pizza I've had. My advice, unless you live in Italy, stick with the classics. I prefer the Margherita con Bufala. The buffalo mozzarella is a bit rich compared to regular mozzerella, but it makes a difference. We chose to sit inside to avoid the smokers outside, but service staff inside were way snootier than the ones we first talked to outside. The one male waiter for our section was super slow and full of attitude (not just with us, but with the local customers as well). It seems that, although dressed the same, there is one guy that supervises and others that take the orders (who are also separate from the ones who bring you your food and your bill). They both stand at the computer, but if you try to order or ask a question from the supervisor, he'll just ignore you. So make sure you talk to your waiter when you want to ask for something, because the other guy will acknowledge you, but he will just ignore your request. He actually will not follow through with your request even if he nods or acknowledges you and will not bother to relay the request. Speaking from experience. TIP: If you're not a big eater, ask for your pizza to be cut in half. They will bring the one pizza split in half on two plates for you if you want to share one order between two people. We're not big eaters, and I think even one pizza would have been enough to share between the 3 of us. If you get the slow waiter, like we did, don't even bother asking him for the check. Ask the person that actually brings the check if you see them bringing someone else's, or the ones who bring out the pizzas, as I think they're the same staff that bring the bill. Afterwards, however, don't be surprised if somehow at this point your waiter becomes way more motivated and is right behind you when you're ready to pay.

Yelp
Our Best Meal in Naples The fried pizza here with gooey burrata and shaved ham was actually the best pizza I've had EVER. Like ever. We had 3 other pizzas as well, all fantastic. They have microbrew beer that is great. It fills up with tourists and lots of locals so I would advise going a bit early. We ate at about 6:45 and it was almost empty. By 8 pm a line was waiting. So glad we found this place!
google avatar

Yelp
UHHHHH - MAZING PIZZA! You can tell by the line that this place is one of the best by the crowds of people waiting outside just to get a spot in line. I do not remember what I ordered but I tried 5 of the pizzas and every one was beyond perfect! Perfectly chewy dough with the right amount of cheese and sauce to each bite. Also each pizza is huge so plenty enough for one hungry person or to share family style. I recommend getting as many pies as you can and then share it family style. I highly recommend the fried pizza, it resembles a calzone but the dough is almost fluffed and crunchy like a donut.
google avatar

Kayleigh B.

Yelp
The buffalo margherita pizza was hands down the best pizza I have ever eaten. I would literally go back to Naples just to eat this pizza again. The price was extremely reasonable (I think 8€ for the pizza?) and the service was good too. It wasn't busy at 18.30 on the Saturday we went, but towards the end of our dinner there was a line around the corner, so plan accordingly.
google avatar

Brad W.

Yelp
50 Kalo is known for its dough, which resembles a delicious pita. Unfortunately, the pizza is the definition of "blah." The sauce weirdly reminded me of paint. At first, I thought that was just a neutral taste, but it ended up tasting bad. The cheese had a bad aftertaste. Severely overrated.
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
This place was suggested to us by our can driver upon our arrival into Naples. And it didn't disappoint! The pizza was crisp yet had a chewy crust. The ingredients were fresh and the service was good. Initially we were a little intimidated by the fact that the menu only came in Italian, but thanks to google we were able to figure it out! Oh and the pistachio dessert was to die for!

One of the best pizzerias in Napoli. We had the pomodorini e bufala + cosacca pizzas. Crust was okay, but the ingredients some of the best we had in Italy.

Yelp
Best pizza that I have ever had in Napoli and Italy for that matter. Prices are very reasonable. Good service by a friendly staff. Unfortunately, everyone else in Napoli knows this as well. Get there early, noon for lunch for example, if you don't want to be standing in the street.

Yelp
We took a group of students to this restaurant (24) of us without a reservation for one of our group meals. Not only did they accommodate our large group but they offered impeccable service. They were patient with our students as they tried to decipher what each pizza contained. The pizza arrived very quickly and each was delicious and unique in its flavor profiles. If I am ever in the Naples region again, I would definitely return!

Yelp
This place is like a bee hive, so hard to find a table but it is worth it. One would think what is so special about a pizza place in Napoli, after all, this is Italy. However, this place combines hip with tasty. The ingredients are fresh and they have a variety of local beers. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Napoli.
