The 15 Best Restaurants In San Francisco’s Chinatown

"When you find yourself caught in the touristy crosshairs of the North Beach-Chinatown border, zero in on the big neon “606” sign at this Chinese restaurant. The casual spot has floor-to-ceiling windows so you can watch visiting families wander out of City Lights as you dig into mountainous portions of Cantonese classics. Expect crispy seafood noodles, wonton soup you’ll want to drink via ladle, and garlicky sesame chicken, all ideal for fueling up after taking your visiting uncle up and down Coit Tower. " - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, lani conway

606 - Review - Chinatown - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"606 is a Cantonese spot in Chinatown that was formerly New Sun Hong Kong, and is now run by the previous owners’ children. It’s one of the better options for dinner when you find yourself caught in the touristy crosshairs of the North Beach-Chinatown border. The casual restaurant, with big floor-to-ceiling windows and a bright neon “606” lit up outside, does mountainous portions of classics. Expect crispy seafood noodles, wonton soup you’ll want to drink via ladle, and garlicky sesame chicken, all ideal for fueling up after taking your visiting uncle up and down Coit Tower." - Julia Chen

15 Scintillating Chinese Restaurants in San Francisco

"The corner of Broadway and Columbus Avenue in San Francisco popped off in a big way at the end of February when 606 took over the location, redesigning the interior and adding all kinds of loveliness to the former New Sun Hong Kong restaurant menu. Now there’s salt-and-pepper pork chop from talent who cut their teeth at R&G Lounge, Washington Bakery, and more." - Eater Staff

6 New Restaurant and Bar Openings Across the Bay Area: March 26 - Eater SF

"The highly-visible corner of Broadway and Columbus Avenue is dark no longer. The Chinese restaurant and cafe 606 — fittingly located at 606 Broadway — opened on January 31. Eater SF reporter Paolo Bicchieri noticed the doors open and ducked in for a dinner of shrimp-stuffed tofu and rich Hong Kong-style tea. The iconic location housed late-night favorite New Sun Hong Kong Restaurant prior to the pandemic and is just across the street from San Francisco legacy business the Condor, as well as City Lights and Vesuvio Cafe." - Lauren Saria

The food I had here was absolutely amazingly delicious. The egg rolls were out of this world good and the garlic chicken was outstanding. I highly recommend people eat at this restaurant at least once if they are here in San Francisco and are looking for some delicious Chinese food. I wish I can give them 30 stars ⭐️

Google
Authentic Chinese flavors at 606! Loved the apple wine, Hong Kong tea, crispy salt and pepper chicken wings, and tasty chow mein noodles. Staff were super nice and polite. A great spot in SFO for a flavorful, satisfying meal. Will definitely return!

I came to San Francisco from Boston. This was our first time visiting San Francisco and several people recommended 606 and they were right. There were a lot of locals inside eating there so we knew that was a great sign. The food was delicious and the people were great. I can't wait to come back. This is such a beautiful city.

We had dinner here and the food & service was great! The staff was friendly and fast. Lots of great variety on the menu. We had Simon’s garlic chicken, crispy egg rolls and honey walnut prawns — all were delicious! The atmosphere is cute and clean! Would definitely be back.

Google
Food was just ok. Bbq pork ribs was a bit basic. Honey walnut prawns could be crisper (good flavor though). Beef stew noodle soup was more soup based instead of a stew that I was expecting, it's pretty light. Fried tofu with shrimp was also just ok, a bit plain and the sauce was nothing special. The mandarin beef a bit too sweet. Serving sizes were pretty reasonable for the price. The service is great, they did well to get our order pretty fast and also talk about in detail what some dishes are. They also gave recommendations. The restaurant is pretty modern and clean

We've been eating at this restaurant since its soft opening. The food is delicious, and ingredients are fresh. Alvin and Eugene treat us well each time we come to dine-in or order take-out. On our most recent visit, we ordered the pot stickers, garlic noodles, beef chow fun, and salt & pepper fish. Very tasty! We consider 606 Restaurant to be one of our go-to destinations.

Google
Stopped by for dinner. We arrived super early for our 7:45 pm reservation because we ran out of things to look at, but we were also super tired from walking around the city. They had a nice little waiting area available to sit at while we waited for a table to free up. We had a late lunch, but still managed to polish off a few dishes. Everything was good, but the favorite had to be the salt and pepper tofu with string beans. The tofu was nicely flavored and we really liked the crunchy exterior and soft tofu center. We also ordered the beef chow fun, the baby bok choy and the pork and noodle soup (with egg noodles).

Google
Had an incredible lunch here! The food was extremely flavorful, light and filling! Loved that we were able to be seated right away, but I would recommend a resy to secure seating. We had the garlic chicken, chow mein, and pork dumplings. The garlic chicken and chow mein were the best of the best - MUST get these two! The pork dumplings are a skip imo Can’t wait to come back!

Yelp
3 key positives about this restaurant. - Customer Service - Food quality/Taste - Nice ambience Which in my opinion are the most important qualities a restaurant should have. I came to sf for a solo day trip and came upon this restaurant. After ordering I had an amazing conversation with the owner (Eugene) who explained to me the history of the restaurant and even kindly explained to me how to eat soup dumplings! Would recommend this place to anyone who would like a nice calm environment with amazing food and service!

Yelp
Mongolian Beef at 606 606 Broadway sits at the tip of Chinatown, where Columbus Street meets Grant and Broadway diagonally, creating a peninsula-like triangle that transitions the cultural and culinary landscapes from Little Italy to Chinatown. This location was once home to New Sun Hong Kong, a beloved traditional Cantonese restaurant since 1989. Its maroon letters on beige awnings were a familiar landmark for over 30 years, until its closure during the pandemic. In 2024, the family's next generation took over and transformed the space into a sleek, modern establishment now named "606." The new look brings fresh energy to the place while honoring its Cantonese roots. Rather than the typical multi-page menu of traditional Chinese restaurants, 606 offers a streamlined selection, making it easy for diners to choose. This minimalist approach aligns with the style of many modern Western restaurants, blending familiar and innovative flavors. I often walk to Chinatown for lunch, and more often than not, I find myself at 606. About six out of ten times, I'll pick 606, and eight out of ten times, I'll go for their lunch portion of Mongolian Beef. I consider this their signature dish, as it captures a fusion of East and West. The origins of Mongolian Beef are debated. One popular theory suggests a Taiwanese chef coined the name in the 1950s, while another attributes it to a Chinese chef in the U.S. aiming to attract American diners. I lean toward the latter--a dish born in the American melting pot, blending traditional Chinese stir-frying techniques with a Western twist. 606's version of Mongolian Beef look similar to others. It is done quite well. The lunch plate includes hot and sour soup, rice, and the stir-fried beef with onions. Strips of beef, coated in soy and oyster sauces, are quickly sautéed with white onion slices and green onion strings. Crispy cellophane noodles top the dish, adding a delightful crunch. The sauce balances savory elements --a fusion of traditional Chinese stir-fry with flavors tailored to the modern palate.

Yelp
Had an enjoyable experience at 606 recently. It was recommended by a couple staying at the same timeshare. The hot and sour soup was tasty and had a perfect balance. The Hong Kong noodle dish and lightly garlic shrimp both highlighted the perfectly done baby bok choy. The highlights were the salt and pepper fish. it was lightly breaded to perfection and dry, sautéed with jalapeño peppers. They use filet of flounder, which was moist and extremely tender.. On the outskirts of Chinatown, this new edition has only been open since March with a young exuberant staff.

Yelp
The restaurant looks super clean and nice, and more on the modern side. Tables are spaced apart nicely so it doesn't get too crowded and the noise level is on the lower end. Servers were nice but you might have to flag them down for water. Singapore noodles 3/5- very average and something you could probably find at any generic chinese restaurant. Could have used more of a kick Kingdo beef 4/5- probably the best dish we tried! Good flavor and great ratio of sauce to beef Salt and pepper tofu 2/5- Soft tofu and fried well but almost no flavor Xiao long bao 3/5- perfectly bite sized and skin stayed together, but average taste and a little dry Overall restaurant was nice but food itself was very average, especially in the Chinatown area

Yelp
Fantastic HK food! Went on a weekday around 5PM and we were the 1st to arrive for dinner service. Ordered the Salt & Pepper Fish and the Dry Fry Beef Hor Fun. Both dishes were delicious. The Salt & Pepper Fish had a very crispy yet light layer and their chili paste complements the fried fish very well. The Beef Hor Fun was also delicious with plenty of meat and green onions. I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes! The water cups are quite small, would be nice if they left a pitcher of water on the table instead of waiting for the server to pour more water.

Yelp
This used to be the Hong Kong Restaurant and now is in the hands of the former owner's nephew. I am glad they kept it in the family. I think it is much better in terms of quality and the space even looks more modern. We ordered the hot milk tea and the iced milk tea. I liked the iced milk tea. Not too sweet. Very good quality Chinese food. We wanted to not eat such a heavy lunch so we ordered calamari, veggie egg rolls and chicken wings. I would come here again. The owner was super nice.

Yelp
Randomly found this place on Yelp for a friend's bday and loved it! I think it's relatively new to the area or maybe I have missed it? but glad we were able to check it out. Since there were so many yummy dishes, we decided to go family style. As other reviews suggest, the Simon's Garlic Chicken was a huge HIT. The salt and pepper crispy fish was also a good entree. Along with that, we also liked the noodle dishes (chow mein / chow fun was excellent). Didn't get a picture of all the food, but we enjoyed everything we ordered :) They also gave us some complimentary hong kong milk tea + sesame rice balls which were the perfect end to our meal.

Yelp
I've come back already 2 more times and I think it just gets better and better. Amazing service every time and got a private room for my party of 8!

Yelp
I heard the owners of 606 are from the same family as the previous restaurant. Now I understand why Simon's garlic chicken was the most popular order; I couldn't stop eating more than two portions of their crispy sweet chicken. My former date loved their Beef Ho Fun which was more flavorful and less oily, even the noodles were covered in soy sauce well. The Xiao Long Bao was okay; I expected it to be more soupy. It's best to try other dim sum dishes. The service was pleasant at first, but once they got busy it took a long time to flag one of the waiters for a check and takeout boxes. What's nice is that they accept Apple and Google Pay, which you had to go up to the register to scan your phone. Overall, the restaurant was clean and modern. Will come back to try different Cantonese-style dishes.

Yelp
606 is a new restaurant with Hong Kong style dishes on the edge of Chinatown and North Beach We made a reservation here, it was pretty easy to make one a day in advance but it was so crowded when we got there so we were glad we made one What we ordered: - iced lemon Hong Kong tea -- this seemed to be a special at the time. It was so delicious and the just the right amount of lemony and sweet, it tasted like a better arnold palmer - onion crepe pancakes -- delicious as well, we could not stop eating these while waiting for our mains - potstickers -- honestly these were not very good, the texture on the inside was a bit weird - sesame chicken -- we loved this chicken, it was crispy and sweet/sour - vegetable chow mein -- classic and good as we expected Additionally the prices were pretty good, we will be back next time we're craving good chinese food and don't want to wait in a super long line for a table!

Yelp
Out and about in San Francisco Chinatown. I had a hankering for Singapore noodles, so a quick Yelp search directed us to 606. This place is right on the corner of Clay Columbus, and Broadway - a busy intersection in Chinatown. You can't miss the giant awning on the corner lot. They do have a self-check in kiosk for when there are longer wait times, but at 1:00 on a Sunday in October we were able to walk right in and be seated right away. There were only two of us for lunch, but we were able to snag a Sunny four top near the window which is great for people watching. They serve Hong Kong family style food and the menu offers a variety of plates organized by Land and Sea, as well as a collection of lunch specials if you want to get slightly smaller portions and try even more things. We went for the meat fried wontons to start and then dug into some Singapore fried rice. Yum! Had tons of chunks of pineapple and pork. We also had an order of the King do ribs. Super super sweet. I wouldn't recommend the ribs unless you really like more sugary dishes as this was drenched in a sticky sugary sauce, but the portion was perfect for two to share along with the rice and wontons. One note on the wontons: they do make them with either pork or shrimp depending on what's fresh as everything is made to order. I specifically requested pork and then our waiter went to check to make sure pork was available. He confirmed and then brought us a plate of shrimp wontons. Luckily I am not allergic so this was not an issue. But if you're prone to any type of anaphylaxis in the seafood category, you might want to steer clear of some of the wontons or potstickers just because there may be confusion around the filling. After finishing our rice and ribs, we were still a bit peckish so ordered some of the four seasons string beans which are phenomenal. Very well seasoned and a great amount of kick with lots of onions and red chilies. I'm wishing we had ordered them earlier in the meal so that they could have paired with the rice and the ribs all together. We stuck to water for drinks but they do have a variety of teas and whatnot available for those who aree into that. For two of us luunch came in at just under 100 bucks. I definitely recommend and will potentially come back next time I'm in town just to try more of the menu.

Yelp
My wife and I were hankering for some Shanghainese food, so we went to 606 for some classic dishes. The restaurant looks newer and fairly plain inside. We ordered Shanghai Dumplings (aka xiao long bao), Salt & Pepper Pork Chop, Pea Sprouts - Garlic Tossed and Dry Fry Beef Hor Fun. The xiao long bao were kinda meh. The salt & pepper pork chop was pretty good. The pea sprouts were excellent. The go fun was good. All in all, 606 was pretty good, but I'd sample other Shanghainese restaurants before returning for another meal.

Yelp
I almost want to gatekeeper this place because I love it so much. Located between China Town and North Beach, 606 offers delicious Hong Kong style cuisine. They have Yelp waitlist which makes it easy to snag a table and the ambiance is clean and comfortable. The first time I went here, I tried the salt and pepper chicken wings, simons garlic chicken, bok choy and beef ho fun. The portions are large and flavors are on point. The wings were my favorite. I would recommend 606 for larger groups to be able to try more dishes.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by 606. They serve primarily Cantonese food and the restaurant looks clean and modern. We were seated quickly during peak lunch hours on Sunday and ordered: salt and pepper fish, sesame chicken, pea sprouts, string beans, and fried rice. A highlight was the Salt and Pepper Fish. This came out piping hot and the breading was SO thin and crispy. I hope they never take this off their menu. Their Hong Kong style iced lemon tea was very refreshing and I loved the fresh lemons paired with black tea. Make sure to stab the lemons to get all the lemon juice! String beans had an unexpected spicy kick to it (this isn't usually a spicy dish, so be aware if you have a very low spice tolerance) I'll be back to try more of their Cantonese style dishes like Beef Hor Fun, dim sum, and HK style milk tea.

Yelp
Really delicious Chinese/Hong Kong cuisine! Walked in on a Sunday late afternoon for lunch for 2 and didn't have to wait. We ordered 3 dishes and a bowl of rice to share, and it was plenty of food, had to pack leftovers to take back home. We had Simon's garlic chicken, salt and pepper fish, and the fried tofu with chopped shrimp. All 3 dishes were very good, but my favorite was probably the fried tofu dish. It's doused in a delicious sauce, and the tofu is very soft on the inside. I asked for a side of hot sauce to add to the salt and pepper fish which enhanced it quite a bit. Otherwise by itself without some sauce, the outer layer was a bit dry/bland. We also had the Hong Kong milk tea which was delicious. I wish the portion of it was bigger though with more ice. When it came out, most of the ice was already melted from the heat of the water used to brew the tea. Another small complaint was that I had to remind the waiter twice that we ordered a bowl of rice, so there was quite a delay in the delivery of our one bowl of rice. Otherwise, the food here is great but had to knock down a star for the milk tea and forgetful service.
google avatar

Abbie C.

Yelp
Ordered Beef Chow fun and Yin Yang Milk tea which consists of black tea with milk and espresso. The quality of the beef cut was good, but a bit lacking in portion size for the beef chow fun. It also could have used more noodles as there was plenty of onions and pea sprouts, but lacking in noodle portion size. The Yin Yang Milk Tea was good. The servers were attentive. It had a clean modern aesthetic.
google avatar

Madison M.

Yelp
Very clean and comfortable restaurant, all the furniture and tables looked brand new. They have 3 bathrooms which was more than I assumed for the size of the restaurant. Service was very fast. The dishes we ordered were good, the bok choy was a great side-would order again, I probably wouldn't order the sesame chicken again- there were other things on the menu I'd rather try. The Mongolian beef was decently spicy but very tolerable. The couple next to us got the fried tofu and green beans-they said the green beans were amazing but the ratio of tofu to green bean favored the tofu so if you're looking for a veggie heavy side that might not be the best option for you.
google avatar

Theresa S.

Yelp
I just can't. Words can't describe the flavor bomb, the layers of flavor, and the balance in the two dishes I tried today. The sweet and sour pork ribs and shrimp tofu are an ABSOLUTE MUST TRY. I am SO THANKFUL I stumbled upon this place with my friend as we stopped for a late lunch in China Town SF. The food, the food, the food. I was blown away at how freshly cooked the dishes were, yet tastey. I will, definitely, come back. I want to TRY EVERY DISH. I just HAVE TO. There is no other proper response to GOOD FOOD. PERIOD.

Yelp
Came here with a group of friends for dinner a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it! Our friend had raved about this place so she wanted to take us and I'm glad she did. The location is great, walkable from both little Italy and Chinatown. The restaurant itself is really clean and has a minimalistic aesthetic. The food was so good! We ordered a variety of meat, noodle, rice, and veggie dishes. Everything was really good and made with such care. One of our friends was gluten free and the chef came out to make sure that we ordered things to accommodate for his dietary restrictions. The overall vibe of the restaurant was 10/10 and will definitely be coming back here to try the rest of their menu!

Yelp
606 is back open after 3 years being closed in the pandemic! Alvin, one of the nephews of the original family owners was so courteous and even threw in a free drink for us when we were debating which one to order. The food was all really delicious, and their menu is quite simple but effective. It's not over the top but everything exceeded my expectations compared to other restaurants in Chinatown. I really liked Simon's Garlic Chicken, and also the salt & pepper fish as well as the drinks! The prices are very reasonable when split family style. The interior is quite modern and renovated. I really appreciated they let us hang around and talk even after our dinner ended until they closed! I'm super excited to come back and try their downstairs secret old style menu!!!

Yelp
I came here once with 2 girlfriends and we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. The service was also so great. We went pretty hard and ordered a lot and had a lot of leftovers. We ordered the Salt and Pepper Fish, Crispy Gold Noodles Hong Kong style, Shanghai soup dumplings and Garlic Pea Sprouts. Everything we ordered was sooo delicious. My favorite was the Salt and Pepper Fish, we actually ended up trying the Salt and Pepper Calamari too and they were both great. The service was so kind, quick and accommodating. They actually got 1 order incorrect and brought us the right order right away.

Yelp
Hard to find really solid Chinese food surprisingly in Chinatown. Most of the best places you do get to are out in sunset, or moreso in south at. But this new restaurant 606 does a great job of providing Cantonese / Hong Kong menu items. Service is pretty superb, and the menu is simple for people to choose from. While there's not a ton of menu items, the things they make are made at a high quality that makes your mouth wish you could've ordered more. My only regret is not being able to have more people around to try more of the menu. Portions were pretty good, but not a crazy amount. Pretty superb experience for a meal in Chinatown, so feel free to give this place a try :)

Yelp
We ordered the steamed dumplings, fried tofu and the garlic chicken. They were well seasoned and well made. Perfect place for a relaxing lunch. Service was good. TY :)

Yelp
This spot was our childhood post night out spot New Sun Hong Kong re-branded to 606. Had their bottled Hong Kong Milk Tea which is unique and you can not only enjoy it in the restaurant but you can also take it home to enjoy! I really liked their Neon City Beer from Hong Kong it was elegant and zesty just like the label said. The Lucky Buddha Beer from China the presentation of the bottle says it all. The Hot and Sour Soup was delicious. Their newest Pork Spare Ribs had a Chashu flair which was excellent. You can't go wrong with the Beef Chow Fun of course. Uncle Simon's Garlic Chicken was unique and tasty. The String Beans had a spicy kick which pleasantly caught me by surprise! The Honey Walnut Prawns were crunchy and just the right amount of Mayonnaise. Thanks for the hospitality 606!

Yelp
I'm glad that New Sun Hong Kong (previous name) re-opened with the new decors, menu and new approach to the generally notoriously bad, rude Cantonese service and restaurants ambiance of many Cantonese restaurants worldwide. This new ambiance is airy and modern with new chairs and tables even though the layout of the interior of the restaurant is still the same. Non Chinese (non cantonese) server is also great addition to a restaurant in a very strategic location in Chinatown that aspire to be more enjoyed by all including non Chinese speaking people (only one server worked today, Thursday at 5 PM). Being a concierge in a prime luxury hotel, this gives me more option in recommending our guests to a new Chinese restaurant that is good outside of the usual list of the popular restaurants nearby. Food was good, not wow good but more than decent compare to the other Chinese restaurants in the area. I've had the bbq pork fried rice and fried tofu w/ chopped shrimp. This pork fried rice was sadly not a good representation of the good Hong Kong style restaurant that is supposedly known for their "wok hei" (the breath of wok) technique. This bbq pork fried rice has NO wok hei, it was wet and no charred / smokey taste it was just like your regular neighborhood Chinese carry out restaurants fried rice. Their fried tofu w/ chopped shrimp was good. It was beautiful to look at, it was a delight to savor. I will come again to try other dish before sending our hotel guests to this restaurant. I hope they learn how to cook true Hong Kong style "Wok Hei" fried rice, To make it worthy of their name being called Hong Kong style restaurant.

Yelp
TLDR: Wow! An absolutely delicious food spot housed in a newly renovated, modern, and clean space right on Columbus Ave. Whatever you do, get the Salt and Pepper Fish. I loved that the food wasn't dripping in oil and actually tasted like it was made with high quality, healthier ingredients. Will definitely be coming back when they do their hard opening! ------ FOOD: 1. [MUST TRY] Salt and Pepper Fish (5/5) - Super tender fish filets lightly fried to give them a beautiful, dark brown, crispy panko crust. The buttery taste mixed with the lightly salted exterior was so delicious, and the texture was just perfect. Even though it was fried, it didn't taste oily at all. 2. Simon's Garlic Chicken (5/5) - Slightly crunchy, really delicious sweet glaze, and phenomenal when freshly made. Still good cold, but just really good fresh. 3. Dry Fry Beef Ho Fun (4/5) - Long, flat noodles stir fried with beef, mung bean sprouts, and onions. It's a classic dish done well and, importantly, not too oily, especially for Ho Fun! This detail makes a huge difference to me because it doesn't weigh you down as much as it otherwise would. This was also a huge portion (though everything here is a large portion). ------ SERVICE: Got to meet Alvin, a member of the family bringing this Chinatown institution back to life after the pandemic. You could tell how passionate he was about the place and how grateful he was for all the support the community has provided, though it was all well-deserved! Our waiter came around periodically to refill our waters and was very nice as well. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: Don't get me wrong, I love my hole-in-the-wall Chinatown spots, but it's also great to have found a place where I can get Chinese food in a spacious, clean, and newly-renovated space if I wanted. There are huge windows lining two walls of the restaurant, letting in so much natural light. Came on a Sunday at 11:30 am and was able to be seated immediately. There are quite a few tables for 2-4 people inside, and I'm sure they can accommodate larger groups too.

Yelp
Good location in the city and was nice inside. The golden crispy noodles were yummy although I wasn't a big fan of the milk tea. The fried rice was good but due to the way the shrimp is prepared - it would have been better without.

Yelp
10/10 WOULD RECCOMEND!! I highly recommend the Ho Fun noodles, they were delicious, perfectly seasoned, and you can taste the love in them (and wok hei) !! Our server was attentive and kind and so was the manager! I loved the decor and layout, it gave upscale yet comforting. Stop by if you're ever in Chinatown and make sure to try EVERYTHING!

Yelp
Thers's a new kid in Chinatown, but its history on this busy corner of Broadway and Columbus runs deep. 606 is a new and delicious restaurant from a husband and wife and son team whose families had restaurants in Chinatown, including this very location. (Their 10-year old son gleefully filled water glasses and bussed tables. Such a wonderful family atmosphere. They have spiffed it up a bit but the wraparound windows make for good people watching at the corner of North Beach and Chinatown. Go visit them during their soft-opening. Salt and pepper pork was a heaping pile of flavors. It paired well with a sweet and sour sesame chicken. And, the shrimp chow mein was a standout with large, plump shrimp and wonderfully chewy noodles. The only near-miss were the shanghai dumplings which had great meat filling but very little soup. I am sure they will fix that faux pas before their grand opening. In the meantime, you owe yourself and them a visit. You won't regret it. Portion sizes are very generous. Each dish can be shared by two or more.

Yelp
606 is a relatively new Chinese spot in the city. Came here with my friend on a Sunday afternoon and everything here was sooo delicious! Pork dumplings (8/10): Really delicious! Just make sure to eat it while it's hot. Simons garlic chicken (10/10): So so good! I'm amazed at how the chicken was still extremely crispy despite being thoroughly coated in the sauce. 1000/10 would recommend. Sesame chicken (10/10): Also extremely delicious and the chicken was super crispy. If you like a sweeter entree (like orange chicken) then this is a must try. Hong Kong milk tea (10/10): We loved it so much! Reminded me of the chai that my mom makes. Super comforting and just the right amount of sweetness. There's plenty of seating and it's so peaceful inside! The service is exceptional. My friend and I spent a couple hours in here enjoying every last bit of our entrees. This is a must try spot.

Yelp
606 gets the job done. A good variety of Chinese dishes I was familiar with and also not familiar with. Is that a good sign of a Chinese spot? I have no clue. This passed the taste test for sure. Really quality food with flavor pop. You can tell they put detail and effort into these dishes. I had the garlic chicken and the calamari. After tax this was like $39. 606 made me say something about a Chinese place I've never said before... the portion sizes were just not enough. Paying almost $40 at a Chinese place in China town is usually enough for a feast. The price point for the quantity of the food here is unfair. Quality however, no complaints there! (4.2 Stars)

Yelp
This is a more modern version of a Chinatown restaurant, with a lot of light and open space. From the start, I was welcomed in to take a seat, no waiting. O was there mid-afternoon, however. I ordered egg rolls and fried rice. Both dishes we're cooked to perfection. The fried rice was delicious, but could have used a little more flavor. The egg rolls absolutely hit the spot. Portion sizes were plentiful and I had plenty of stuff to take some back to the hotel. A great experience overall.

Yelp
Love the music playlist here. Pretty decent amount of seating and looks clean. Service is decent. We ordered the Fried Tofu with Chopped Shrimp, Simon's Garlic Chicken, and Dry Beef Hor Fun. My favorite hands down is the Fried Tofu with Chopped Shrimp. Crispy tofu with a silky middle and tasty sauce. The dry beef hor fun is also flavorful and cooked with wok heat. The garlic chicken was sweet but a little too salty for our liking. Overall, a solid meal.

Yelp
Great food and stellar service, so happy to see this restaurant corner up and thriving again! Mom and I popped into this sunny space and enjoyed a dry fried beef chow fun and a won ton soup. Plenty of wok hei in the first dish, and the second had a colorful mix of veggies & big orbs of dumplings. A surprise order of spring rolls showed up on the house, and both our server and the co-owner Eugene were attentive and friendly. Crowd was a good mix of Chinatown locals and tourists, all happily chowing down. The SF Chronicle story about the older generation passing the restaurant to their daughter and son-in-law is worth a read and is in their front window. Will definitely be back (those honey-glazed chicken wings looked particular good)!

Yelp
We picked 606 for dinner before an event last night since they take reservations and it wasn't too far from where we needed to be. We didn't drive since street parking is limited, although there are a few garages in the area. We were seated a couple minutes past our reservation time and I noted the restaurant was pretty full. The service team was friendly when we saw them, but sometimes we wondered if they forgot about us as we were in a back corner and had to wait a few times to get service. From looking online, I knew they had a dim sum menu that wasn't given to us but they brought it when I asked about it, since I wasn't sure if that was limited to certain days/times. We ordered the bbq pork buns, garlic chicken, Mongolian beef, white rice, and a beer. B was looking forward to green tea but they only have black ‍ We enjoyed all of the dishes, but they definitely forgot about our order of chicken which ended up coming out about 15 min after we finished the other dishes. I assume the owner came by to apologize for the delay and let us know he took that off of our bill (thank you!). I appreciated that there wasn't loud music playing, although the restaurant is lively so I wouldn't call it quiet either. I'd be interested in coming back to try more of their regular and dim sum menus.

Yelp
I'm so happy that New Sun Hong Kong (now known as 606) has finally reopened! Back in the day, New Sun Hong Kong was the best place to get beef chow fun at 2:30 in the morning after a long night out. Good times! I stopped by for lunch this week during their soft opening, and had the salt and pepper pork chop rice place - it was amazing and brought back a lot of memories. After I finished eating, a young man introduced himself as the manager and asked me about my meal. He said that the restaurant is still in the family and that the next generation is taking over. His uncle, the previous owner, happened to be hanging out and I got to chat with him too. The uncle was obviously proud of his nephew and happy to see that his restaurant has reopened.

Yelp
A rebirth at the corner of Broadway and Columbus in Chinatown, as the children of the previous New Sun Hong Kong restaurant have taken over. With a renovation and a revamped menu, 606 offers high quality clean tasting Chinese food. My first favorite dish of the night was the salted fish and chicken fried rice. The fluffy rice was very fragrant and well-balanced. My second favorite dish was the salt and pepper fish. The flavorful and lightly battered fish was so soft it barely required chewing. Though 606 is pricier than most places in Chinatown, the fresh ingredients and decently sized portions justify the cost. Front and back staff, especially the owners who were present that night, were welcoming, accommodating, and attentive which made the dining experience more enjoyable. Come support this family business!

Yelp
Canto style foods in Chinatown SF. Was in the area with my friends and just wanted a quick lunch which this place certainly delivers. Short waits we went on a weekday afternoon. We ordered three dishes amongst the three of us. Garlic chicken was very good // well battered// fried and the chow fun tasted how we thought it would no real surprises/nothing out of ordinary. We weren't a fan of the salt pepper fried tofu and the server took note of that with real concern asking why we didn't want to take our left overs with us barely touching the dish. We were honest and said we didn't really like it and he asked for comments then took it off the check!! That was so nice we were just going to pay for it but we really appreciated that!!!

Yelp
The restaurant space on the corner of Chinatown and North Beach finally got a tenant! I like that their menu isn't the size of a library book, instead they focus on a few specialties they do very well. Especially the warm cup of Hong Kong Milk Tea with the meal. 606 HK Milk Tea: This definitely feels like the vibe here. Unlike coffee, it seems perfectly acceptable to have a cup of hot milk tea with your lunch. It's got such a nice balance of sweet, milky and aromatic. Almost bordering on dessert territory. Such a nice contrast to the salt-forward tastes in the entrees. Pan Seared Potsticker (Meat): Pretty standard, but executed well. Thick dough that's soft on one side and crispy on the other. Hearty filling of pork and cabbage. A nice salty and sweet dipping sauce. Simon's Garlic Chicken: Heard a lot of buzz about this dish, so gave it a try. Reminds me of Panda Express kinda fried chicken tossed in a sticky sauce, but so much better. First of all, the chicken is cut long and thin to maximize the deep fried exterior. It's got a chewy and crunchy texture that's just amazing. And the sauce is both garlic heavy and a little sweet, clinging nicely to that crispy exterior. They charge $3 separately for a side of white rice, so I just skipped that and filled my belly with the garlicky fried chicken. Kinda just the right portion for an individual to tackle if they want to indulge! Dry Fry Beef Hor Fun: Seemed to be a popular dish, so gave it a try. Thick rice noodles that soak up an umami salty sauce mixed with some tender beef slices and green onions. Reminded me a little of Thai Drunken Noodles (Pad Kee Mao), which I also like. It's just so addictive, that you can't stop munching. They brought a jar of chili sauce to go with this, which did indeed help liven it up. Fried Tofu with Chopped Shrimp: This looked really cool with the golden fried exterior and glossy sauce. Each big tofu cube had a small shrimp melded to the top of the fried exterior. I was expecting this to taste shrimp-ier, but bland soft tofu was the main flavor. The sauce didn't really flavor beyond the light crispy shell. Probably the only item I wouldn't repeat here.

Yelp
This location used to be the New Hong Kong restaurant. I would say this restaurant now catered more to the non-Chinese and tourists. Here's what we ordered: Wor wonton soup, salt and pepper tofu w/ String beans, Sweet & sour pork ribs and crispy golden noodles HK style. The soup was a disappointment. It was bland and definitely not the wor wonton soup that I was used to. It was a bowl of soup wonton with veggies and meat. Don't know how it justified $22. Salt & pepper tofu w/ string beans was meh. The string bean was tasty but the tofu was lacking salt & pepper. Crispy golden noodle was decent and the sweet & sour pork ribs was ok. While there were many servers standing around, they must had all agreed that only one person would work a particular table. Since our server was busy, we tried to engage another server that was just standing around. He totally ignored us. With so many decent Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, probably won't go back.

Yelp
I was really impressed with the quality of the food, the variety and breadth of the menu. There were specials, dim sum, everything we had a hankering for. We had Mongolian beef, which had great flavor and some heat, wok stir fried chicken with vegetables, pork shumai, Shanghai dumplings, and the most delicious sesame balls. The service was the most attentive I've had at any China town restaurant!

Yelp
Finally got to try this place! Staff was nice and accommodated our large 2-person order by adding another table! Ambiance is well lit and clean. Drink: The hot HK milk tea was my absolute favorite, just slightly bitter and not too sweet! Food: The "salt and pepper fish" was delicious, very crispy and fresh! Even though the menu listed a chili pepper emoji next to it, it wasn't spicy at all. The "Simon's Garlic Chicken" was savory on the sweeter side! It's excellent if you pair it with rice. The "Dry Fry Beef Ho Fun" was yummy, I'd say better than some other Chinese restaurants. It's flavorful and not too dry! Last dish was the "Wonton Soup." The broth soup was very light, not a lot of flavor but the wonton was delicious! It came with some veggies, I'd say it's a great dish if you're feeling cold/under the weather! Would come back again with family and friends! :))

Yelp
Walking in Chinatown, we picked this clean well-lit restaurant, which soft opened with a limited menu. We ordered Garlic Honey Crispy Chicken Wings, which comes in a dozen, so expect a lot. The crispy fried tofu with string beans had just the right amount of garlic and the salty tofu was da bomb! We also had the Mongolian lunch plate - flavorful and nicely spicy. Food here tastes clean and not oily, @ $15-20 per dish city prices. The owner explained they're taking over the business from their elderly relatives and updating it with an Asian American flair. My daughter enjoyed their Hong Kong milk tea. We give 606 4 stars, because we anticipate it moving up to 5 stars by its Grand Opening.

Yelp
Friendly staff and pretty good food for the price point. Cleaner and more modern than its predecessor, Sun HK. I would come back if I was in the area and craving canto food. I got the beef chow fun, sweet and sour pork, and HK milk tea. Tea's on point (do HK spots ever get this wrong tho?).

Yelp
Loved all the dishes we ordered and the staff was outstanding! Would recommend sweet and sour ribs, sesame chicken, fried rice, and pot stickers!!

Yelp
Back in the day, Broadway was the City's night spot for tourists and locals alike. Besides the numerous strip clubs, there were institutions like Enrico's, Finnochio's, and Mabuhay Gardens. Carol Doda was the ambassador to the street. As a result, a number of late-night food spots emerged over the years. This spot was a popular late night eats place called New Sun Hong Kong Restaurant. It closed since 2020 and only recently reopened. An article in the local paper told of the 2nd generation of the chefs/owners taking the reins, rebooting the menu and recipes to their tastes and pleasure. Not wanting to catch them while working kinks out, I finally came here on a Tuesday a little after noon. I was led to the lower dining room and chose a table near the front corner. After reading several Yelp reviews, I mostly knew what I'd order. I started with the . For my main meal, I tried the dry fry beef ho fun (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=FLOFQp_E9zsYooEW_hZxeQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); two things struck me about this: a. the wok hei (dragon's breath) - the flavors, a smokiness from using the right amount of oil and the right temperature in stir frying and b. balanced quality ingredients - the chef used premium bean sprouts, onions, beef, and rice noodles in just the right amounts to compose this dish. It's not what you'd find in most restaurants nor definitely from take-and-go dim sum spots. I doused it with chili sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jU4lA3xXfinzPuTKE3E2BQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), likely house made as I noticed the condensation on the metal container. It gave a good bite and added to the deliciousness of the didh. pan seared pot stickers, meat (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=y7-gkBRK1BtU7h_w2piiqw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); filling (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Ijx46-QB03AVSWaeF9rKyw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); these dumplings surprised me from the crispiness of the skin to the flavors from the juicy pork and cabbage filling. I added a 606 HK milk tea (authentic Hong Kong style) (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=1kfFJJHfQd7vSOwFnw4cQg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), another signature item that shined. Again, the balance of flavors from the creakiness and sweetness without detracting from the tea flavor. When I came in, the lower dining area had four or five occupied tables as one party was leaving as I went in. There are six 2-top and three 4-top tables where I sat with two or three small tables near the entrance and one long table along the far walk for large groups. Mike, who both greeted and waited on me, was very friendly and helpful throughout my meal. Another gentleman brought me the pot stickers also took my milk tea add-on order. I am looking forward to coming back and try other menu items. It's refreshing to see more Chinese restaurants in or around Chinatown changing with the times and putting quality above quantity and pricing.

Yelp
We walked in for an early lunch and were seated pretty quickly. Their menu has a wide variety of food options. We ordered salt and pepper chicken wings, Singapore fried rice (curry), pan-seared potstickers, and tea. Everything was good, but the chicken wings were way too salty. The food came out very fast, and the waiter warned us about it. The service was nice, and the ambiance was modern. Overall, the food was good, but nothing mind-blowing or that would make us go out of our way to return. However, we wouldn't hesitate to come back if we were in the area again.

Yelp
Such a solid spot for some Chinese comfort food with very reasonable prices and great service. Came here for a late lunch on Sunday, and there were a few tables taken but most were available. The space feels clean and modern, and it's relatively spacious. We got the Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Onion Pancakes, Wok Tossed Chicken and Vegetables, and the Dry Beef Hor Funn. The soup dumplings were solid -- not the best I've had and the dough was a little bit on the thicker side, but the soup was satisfying and there was a good portion of meat inside. The Onion Pancakes were crispy and not too oily, I really enjoyed both the chicken and the dry noodles we ordered. Not the most revolutionary dishes by any means, but simple, savory, and hit the spot. The service here is truly stellar. They repeatedly checked on us and came over to refill our tea and water. The soup dumplings also took a while to come out so they gave us some complimentary Hong Kong Milk Tea, which was so delicious and satisfying.
