Yes, yes, yes. Oh my goodness, yes. Since the plague closed all my old haunts (RIP Square One, Shakespeare and Company, etc.), I've been looking for a coffeeshop that focuses more on the lighter roasts and caters to more adventurous sorts. I like my coffee to not taste like "coffee"--bring on the fruitiness, the floral notes, the acidity. Yesterday I had the Yirgacheffe pourover and a coffee roll and was impressed enough by the experience and charmed by the baristas that I needed to come back today. Before I left yesterday, the folks suggested I try the Edwin Noreña. The tasting notes were unlike anything I've seen before--Twizzler and strawberry blowpop. I know, right? Even as a big fan of light roasts, this was highly unusual. They let me smell the beans and even that was so unlike anything I've had before. Coming back today I had to get some of that coffee! Oh my goodness. Oh. My. Goodness. Not since Stumptown's Mordecofe have I had a coffee like this, and I'd say this surpasses it as my new favorite. Where Mordecofe at its best is like drinking orange juice, this was like drinking strawberry candy. I even bought some of the beans because I can't get enough!
As others have said, it's a small, cozy space, so seating is at a premium and sometimes (like yesterday) the line is out the door. Think of your favorite tiny, hip shop in Manhattan and you've got the right idea. That said, seating is comfortable, and it's all against the wall, which means I get the lower back support I find lacking in so much modern commercial seating. The tables are a generous size and can fit a book / medium laptop or tablet and your drink without issue. Also, looooots of natural light coming in, and if that's not enough, the park's right there. They do have a bathroom, too, should you need it. As mentioned above, everyone working the bar is super charming and friendly, and it's clear they all share my passion for seeing just how fun and weird coffee can be.
They've got some other drinks like a matcha concoction that I've yet to try, but am quite curious about.
