In-Person Iftar: Where Montreal’s Muslim Community Goes to Break Fast During Ramadan | Eater Montreal

"The banquet room at Halal 786 was unused during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, but this Ramadan, everything will be back to the way they were before, says manager Lydia Mamri. The extensive menu of the flagship Parc-Ex restaurant is a perennial crowd-pleaser at Ramadan, especially dishes like chicken and mutton karahi, seekh kebab and their grilled fish. It’s the mango lassi that hits the spot, though, to break the fast." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

The Best Central Asian and Middle Eastern Kebabs in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Bright, family-friendly Halal 786 in Parc-Ex has a dedicated barbecue menu with traditional veal, chicken, lamb, and even fish. While you’re waiting for the grilling magic to happen, check out the tandoori naan breads with nigella seeds, with or without butter or garlic. Seekh kebabs made with minced veal or chicken laced with coriander are good choices here for authentic Pakistani flavours. Vegetarians are also well-served here: Curry pakora, chickpea flour dumplings in a yellow curry sauce, mustard leaves (sarsoon ka sag), and baigan masala (spicy eggplant) are a few dishes to complement the kebabs or which stand well on their own." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

I went there with my family for dinner, and everything was awesome. We ordered tikka masala, butter chicken, kebabs, chicken karahi, and fried biryani — all spicy. The spice level was perfect; even my dad, who was skeptical at first, ended up loving Pakistani food. The garlic naan was hot, crunchy, and absolutely delicious. I would recommend this place to everyone. The staff were very welcoming and checked in to see if we needed anything.

I found a long white hair in my biryani — completely unacceptable and unhygienic. When I brought it to their attention, they showed zero concern and refused to do anything about it. No apology, no refund, no solution. If this is how they handle food safety and customer service, I won’t be returning — and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else risk it either.

Starting off, someone was there to receive us as soon as we entered the restaurant. The waiters were really nice and the atmosphere was good as well, apart from the old furniture and a part of the cushion of my dinner booth was sagged inside. We ordered: 1- Chicken seekh kebab, which were the highlight of the dinner. 2- Matar Paneer, not spicy at all but not much flavor either. 3- Nihari, the flavors were good but the texture wasn't; it was like I could still feel the raw flour. 4- Mango Lassi, 🥭 was a delight. 5- Garlic Naan, perfect!

Biryani was the most tasteless Biryani I have ever had.. it was just yellow rice, lots of garam masala and 2 pieces of chicken. Not recommended..!!!

Before returning to Toronto me and my wife went back to this restaurant second time three years later to try their fish which was delicious. Yummy food was served by friendly staff in a timely manner. We ate fish, palak paneer, seekh kababs, boneless tikka with naan and fried rice. Salad and raita was included. We also ordered Chicken biryani for takeout. Every dish was of the highest quality and not a single one was oily like several other places I've been to. Mango lassi is highly recommended to start off. Who could leave without dessert..I ate warm and fresh Gulab jamans. Souf (Fennel seeds) was available free of cost for customers to digest the meal.

I ordered butter chicken for $24 on Uber Eats because it was a special “buy one get one free” offer. When I arrived, I asked if it was possible to dine in, and the staff said yes and seated us at a table. However, a few minutes later, they informed me that if I wanted to eat there, I would have to pay for both items separately. I agreed and asked if I could change the order to one butter chicken and one nihari, and that I would pay the full price. They then told me it was not possible, which was very disappointing. While their naan bread was good, the butter chicken did not taste authentic. As a Muslim restaurant, I expected better service and honesty. I understand it’s a business, and making money is important, but the way they handled this situation was unacceptable.

Google
Best Halal Food in Montreal, one of best taste for halal butter chicken not to much spicy. Taste good with garlic naan. Best way to order just order butter chicken once it arrive then order naan as separate. Then you’ll also get white rice 🍚 they come free otherwise it quite expensive.

Yelp
Good choices for entree. Cannot believe they don't have some famous appetizers like chaat and samosa. Most of the food is pre cooked or frozen. Good service and many servers. Street parking is hard to find but available. Paya is only beef and not goat. Overall mediocre experience. Won't be back.

Yelp
This will be my 2nd outing to this restaurant. I was really excited for my family to try the food since I enjoyed every single dish thoroughly the last time. Unfortunately, this time I was disappointed. I got my family too hyped up about the food. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, but the service was super slow. Our orders were taken by two different waiters. So it was annoying, but both them were amiable, so I cannot be super angry at them. We ordered almost a buffet on our table. Mango lassi, Pakota (Pakistani cream soda(too sweet)), Chana Masala (chickpeas curry), mutter paneer (peas/cheese), butter chicken, Biryani Rice, grilled tilapia, and naan bread. The only meals that were good, were grilled tilapia and Chana Masala. Butter chicken was cold, so we asked them to warm it again. Mutter paneer were over cooked, tasted super bland; which we notified and we just got a sorry. Naans were super dry. In the end, what made us happy was Masala Chai with nice warm gulab jamun. In the end, when we asked for our bill; our waiter kept telling us that our bill isn't ready(language barrier?, how can you not make bill ready); we waited for our bill about 20 minutes. I felt leaving the place right way. My first experience was so good, but my second experience is completely the opposite, and I don't think I want to come back for a third experience.

Yelp
Drove all the way down to Montreal for this restaurant alone. Heard raving reviews. It was disappointing possibly due to the high expectations I had, the place was way too crowded to even focus on the food. It was literally swarming with people (this was back in 2017). It didn't seem bad, I just didn't think it was worth a whole trip - definitely good for desi cuisine though!

Yelp
They were very busy still managed to give every table attention. The food tasted like authentic Pakistani food.

Yelp
Food was good but not great. The mango lassi was delicious! We ordered the lentils, fried veal, butter chicken and garlic naan bread. Cost: 50$ with tip, not bad. Service was nice but they did not speak french. Not the best pakistan restaurant in the area.

Yelp
I literally logged into my account after years ONLY to leave this review and express just how disappointed I was with the food at this place. We ordered butter chicken, haleem, palak paneer, chicken seekh kebab and garlic naans. NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING from the above tasted like the dish it's supposed to taste like. Everything was tasteless, lacked salt and just very very sad overall. No hint of authentic Pakistani taste whatsoever. I have never had worse haleem and butter chicken before. The kebabs did not taste or look fresh and the garlic naans hardly had any garlic to it. They were just lightly brushed with some oil and cilantro or something. It was sooo bad that not only did I make the effort to actually tell the manager/owner that the food wasn't good but it also physically hurt me when I paid the bill :( And no, I didn't ask nor was offered any discount/compensation upon me expressing my dissatisfaction with the food, all I got was : " Ohhh , okay next time :) " There's not going to be a next time. I promise.

Yelp
Had dinner with friends recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was fresh, tasty and the service excellent. I had the Lamb Qorma along with the biryani rice & garlic naan. Also, the price made this well worth it. I look forward to going back again.

Yelp
I walked in and the asked me butter naan or garlic so i tought they don't have the option of normal naan: I order butter naan and payed 17.25$. Later on my sister came and asked me why did they charge you 17 bucks and the decided to ask the manager: she said i could no do anything even if the naan were bot even made yet and also it was there fault. I don't suggest this place because its a true scam.

Yelp
OMG, this restaurant has arguably the best Pakistani and Indian food between the down town core and the West Island. Different from other South Asian restaurants, this one doesn't drench it's food in oil. I recommend the beef kababs and the palak paneer, along with the beriani. However, all the dishes are worth a try. Service is very good here too. A clean and comfortable place. Newly renovated.

Yelp
I went to the restaurant and ordered chicken kadai, biryani and sekh kabab. The sekh kabab was very bad. I am a horrible chef but I can cook better than that. It was not worth the money. I paid 90 dollars for bad food.

Fathima T.

Yelp
Horrible service and the food didn't even taste good. One of the servers actually spilled alll the food on us and our table and we got no apology or compensation. Would never go back. Don't recommend.
