Venue with 3 bars, DJs & a vegan menu along with classic bar food, plus private party hosting.
"80 Proof, a two-level bar and restaurant known for its bountiful brunch buffet and a solid happy hour, is permanently closed after seven years at 1500 N. Wells Street, reps announced Wednesday on Instagram. This was a joint venture between Four Corners (Benchmark, Brickhouse Tavern) and Hogsalt Hospitality (Au Cheval, Gilt Bar) who opened the venue in 2018 to replace two-year-old SteakBar. Reps did not elaborate on the reasons behind the closure." - Ashok Selvam
"On the surface, 80 Proof seems like just another clubby sports bar in Old Town. But one thing sets it apart - their long menu of vegan bar food. You’ll find things like jackfruit chicken nuggets, a quesadilla made with pulled-pork oats, and a vegan meatball sub. And for the non-vegan sport fans, they do have actual meat and cheese on the menu, too." - adrian kane
"Neighborhood restaurant and nightlife spot 80 Proof relaunches with a new vegan menu that features a bahn mi mushroom sandwich, yuca fries, salads, and more. A few meaty items remain, like chicken tenders and fish tacos. Customers can also order six packs of beer and seltzer, bottles of liquor and a mimosa kit. Call the restaurant to place an order or opt for delivery via Caviar. 80 Proof, (773) 966-0404, 1500 N. Wells Street." - Naomi Waxman
"The two-floor spot will reopen on Saturday under the same ownership — the company formerly known as Four Corners Tavern Group — with a new name. From Saturday on the restaurant at 1500 N. Wells Street will be known as 80 Proof." - Ashok Selvam
"Four Corners other Wells Street property, SteakBar, is also prepping for changes as ownership prepares a revamp inside that bar that opened two years ago." - Ashok Selvam
