The Austin Smashburger Power Rankings

"NADC’s burger is made with wagyu beef and served on a Martin’s potato roll with american cheese, pickles, jalapeños, and some tangy secret sauce—essentially all the smashburger buzzwords jammed into a small $16 burger, without fries. It’s saucy enough that the bun will probably collapse into a soggy mess about midway through, and it’s a little too salty, but the patties have a great crust and are juicy throughout. This is the kind of burger that’s best enjoyed after one too many beers—thankfully, NADC is open very late. Otherwise, there are plenty of burgers in Austin that offer more for a lot less.  Your Order: NADC Burger ($16). Ask for extra napkins. " - nicolai mccrary

Yelp
We went to NADC burger on East 6th. We parked a few blocks away on 6th on a Friday night the walk wasn't bad. There was almost no line we were able to order right away. There's not much seating inside or outside the restaurant but we did manage to snag a table outside. The staff was very welcoming! Our orders did take a little while to come out but it was worth the wait. I ordered the NADC Burger and the Beast Mode Fries. Both were delicious. In my opinion they were cooked perfectly! It was everything that I expected. I would def recommend this spot to burger fanatics!

Yelp
On a scale from 1-10, I give it a 7...other than one of the owners is a Michelin star Chef.. this place was recommended by acquaintance. I like the fact that it was made with waygu meat and they use an American cheese, added their own special sauce with pickles jalapeño and grilled onions. The cook did not drown the sandwich with onions which was good. It was a tid bit greasy. I ordered regular fries that reminded me of Jack in the box fries. The burger reminded me of a big Mac but with better meat. I would still recommend cuz the ingredients are better than McDonald's. Price of the burger is $16. If you trying to save money that is not the place. It was a Thursday so not that many people at location. Glad there was no line. They have a patio outside were you can sit and enjoy your hot burger on a hot summer night. But go ahead and try it yourself. Everyone's taste buds' is different.

Yelp
I love NADC, and am an avid goer to the east location. It happened to be closed when I wanted a burger, so we headed to this location. If possible, I highly recommend you attend the other locations. They famously have 2 items on their menu, and both times I've been to Rainey they have been out of one of their items (fries) :( On top of that, service was just meh, and the burger was extremely soppy and greasy. $60 for three burgers, I want to enjoy it. Overall NADC is good, but this location just lacks the things that makes it great. Ambiance, fries, and a smile from the server.

Yelp
If you're looking for a pillowy, juicy, well-seasoned burger... NADC is for you! I was visiting Austin and staying near Rainey street; my hotel actually gave me the recommendation to go try it out. I didn't realize it was going to be an order at the window deal, but the vibes were GREAT and they had some outdoor seating. Here is what I ordered and how I would rate: - Fries (7/10) - Burger w/ jalapeños (9/10) I can see how this burger wouldn't be for everyone, but if you're not afraid of a messy burger... head this way to flavor-town!

Yelp
Not a damn chance you find a yummier burger than this. I'm not even a huge burger fan and this one was TOO FIRE!!!! Sauce is perfect, consistency is 10/10 and the beef blended with the onion is just.... Perfection. The loaded fries were also great, lots of cheese you get cheese on every bite. Honestly one of the best I've ever tried. There can be a line, so make sure youre okay with waiting. Just grab a drink at the bar and chill out. Absolutely loved.

Yelp
I have been hearing about NADC for a weeks now so it was an absolute must that I try it! The location I wanted to try was closed down so I went to the other location near 6th Street at the Parlor! I parked on the street and paid only a couple dollars. The ambiance was very fun and relaxing. They had games you can play on the outside as this is an actual bar with patio! The food both is inside of the bar at the back (not the food truck outside) The staff was very friendly and quick! So I would have to give the food a 3. The burger was good, but i think if you see going to have one option for burger it needs to be nearly perfect! The burger itself was flavorful! The sauce was perfect amount, wasn't dripping off the burger so it wasn't next! But the jalapenos were non extinct I couldn't taste them at all! And maybe the burger could have been on a Texas toast to give it an upgrade. And the meat cooked on the grill! I think having an option to atleast have the basic optics like bacon, mayo, ketchup and mustard should be added to the menu! I ultimately think having three burger options would elevate this restaurant to a 4 or 5. We payed $48 for two single burgers, one regular fries and one upgraded fry. I think that is a bit expensive for a star but I would hope some options could be added to give a higher eating so I could come back

Yelp
Considering the hype and self-advertising, I was both skeptical and wary but hopeful and optimistic about what to expect with this burger. We first tried going to the east 6th location first but it was closed; something broken... so we had to endure the unpleasant experience of going to Rainey st. which no one sane really wants to do, especially because there is virtually 0 parking, and even less of it reasonable parking. The Rainey instance is located inside of Idle Hands bar, and of course we wanted to try everything that we could - fries, cheesecake, etc. We went shortly after they were open but their fry machine wasn't working, and they didn't have any cheesecake... so just the burger, which for 2 came out to $32. Better be a damn good burger. It was fairly quick, mostly because the bar was practically empty, and the burger was fresh and hot - hotter than most burgers or even food at a restaurant I've gotten lately. Honestly and frankly, it was a *good* burger; simple - just burger and some cheese and sauce, bun - but tasty. But without fries it was clearly lacking. And especially for $16 I really don't think it was worth it. If it were a late Friday or Saturday night and I were hungry, you could have given me an In n Out double double and I probably wouldn't have noticed much of a difference, and saved over $10; and even get those fries and a shake.

Yelp
The burger was different and good! I liked the burger. The patty had great flavor, and I LOVED the pickled jalapenos. However, the burger was extremely messy to eat. It was super greasy from the bun to the inside of the burger. The fries were basic and average. Their ketchup tasted like a chipotle ketchup, and I did not like it. There is very limited inside seating, but there are a few tables outside. The food is cooked in a food truck out front, but there is a bar inside to order drinks. There is really no ambiance as it is barely a restaurant. Menu is limited, as it really only includes like 1 burger and fries. Service was normal, and food came out quickly. Prices were steep. I understand that the burger is Wagyu making the cost of it more, but even the fries were expensive, and they were very average. I can slightly justify the price of the burger because it did taste great, but I likely would not eat here often. There is no free parking. The only parking available is paid street parking. Overall, I'd give it a 8.5/10. I'd recommend for a good burger, but be ready to pay.

Yelp
Since it opened I have seen a line out the building and luckily I went on a Thursday evening and there was no line. Since there's only 3 things on the menu we placed our orders quickly. What makes these burgers special is the fact that it's 100% Waygu beef which I'm assuming is why their burgers are $16. A little too pricey for me but nonetheless, I will try anything once. Thoughts? Definitely a good burger but despite being Waygu beef, tasted the same as a shake shack burger for double the price. I also thought it was too salty. Good but not great. The fries were amazing though along with their (in-house?)Ketchup. I'm glad I tried it and if you're on the fence I say give it a shot. I probably won't be back often because of the price.

Yelp
Wagyu, skateboarding, hip-hop from the boom-bap era, and a simple menu? YES, PLEASE! Pros: - Played Wu-Tang - Easy AF Menu - Everything was fresh - Fries: CRISPY - Burger: JUICY - Full bar Side Notes: - Can have long lines - Parking street side - Bar seating can get tight - Outdoor seating available - Takeout orders - Dessert from Wolf & Wheat - Check hours What We Got Done: - 2 x NADC Burgers - Regular Fries - Beast Mode Fries What We Loved: Getting parking was relatively easy as we went after the lunch rush on WED or TH (I forgot), and since we were taking it to go, I circled once to find a spot close to the front. There wasn't a line, but people were waiting inside for their order. It was tight waiting around the counter after you placed your order, as you had a mix of people waiting for their order, to those enjoying their food and a beer. We waited about 10 minutes and got our food fresh. They have quite a workflow system in place; you could smell the freshness, and it didn't disappoint. Plus, I got to hear Wu-Tang and Tribe, so it's not too bad waiting for some Wagyu burgers by a pro skateboarder and a Michelin chef. The burger was damn good. Very rich with the Wagyu, made with that smash style that I've been growing to love, secret sauce, jalapeños, pickles, onions, and American cheese. But the fries, the regular ones, oh so good. They were crispy, and we loved them better than the Beast Mode fries with the same type of toppings the burger has on. Opportunities To Improve: Honestly, I get the pricing, although some may criticize that a burger should always be affordable. People said that about coffee, but Starbucks changed that quickly. However, the last time I checked, a Big Mac didn't use Wagyu, nor was it created by a Michelin-starred chef (you pay for what you get). It's not a big deal, but my partner doesn't like pickles, so we just picked them out and put them in mine. They stick to no customization, so we get it. Summary: It was a memorable burger, for sure. The star for us was the $5 regular fries, haha. Something about getting fries just right, hot damn. The burger was damn good, too, something that reminded me of Jewboy nearby, but very different from that Wagyu. I loved it here and will be back! #boombapera

Yelp
I thought it was very yummy. However, $16 for a burger is a steep price point for no ambiance and very little seating to me though which I find important. The menu is also barren, likely intentionally but I snuck in a side salad to have a vegetable with my artery clogging meal. I did find it incredible to watch the speed at which 8 people worked in that small area cranking out burgers though. They moved with precision and expertise. So it was worth the money with the show, at least for a first timer.

Yelp
I finally made it to NADC a few weeks after their opening to let the buzz die down a bit. This burger joint is always bustling, probably thanks to social media. The burger itself was pretty good, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the "best burger I've ever had..." especially when it costs $16. I like how the kitchen won't let you make modifications...everyone gets the same burger with two patties, pickles, lots of cheese, onions, and "Big-Mac"-esque sauce. Surprisingly, the fries were my favorite. They came out piping hot and perfectly crispy. The beast mode fries are similar to In N Out's animal style which are delicious. The only disappointing aspect is the service. The staff is not particularly friendly and when I asked for a water cup, they threatened to charge for it. Definitely worth trying at least once.

Yelp
Went here after seeing a TikTok. Burgers looked amazing. First let's talk parking. There is none, and the nearest parking garage has you scan a QR code to pay, but no zero service so you have to walk out side to do so. Next let's talk location. We walked past it probably 6 times because it's located inside of another resturant with no curb side advertisement. If you are not looking for it, you will not find it. Finally the food......we walked up with a Kiddo and we're told they are not allowed. So we spent about an hour driving too, then locating only to find out a burger joint doesn't allow kids.

Yelp
NADC Burger serves up the best burgers in Austin, hands down. With locally sourced meats and homemade special sauce, every bite is a flavor explosion. Plus, the ambiance adds to the experience. It's a must-visit for burger lovers!
google avatar

Jill B.

Yelp
They do not make adjustments to how you would like your burger. Too much special sauce. Bad Wi-Fi which you need for paying. Thumbs down. Didn't work for me. Maybe I ate 2 bites.

Yelp
Definitely worth trying once! This burger was juicy flavorful and too small! For what I paid, I expected a little more. HOWEVER, the experience standing in line (which went really fast) sitting around the front counter, watching them cook the burgers and listening to the music was such a good time. We also got the cheese fries but I would hold the cheese next time. It came out cold and the fries were good on their own! Loved the energy here and recommend for those visiting Austin.

Inshal B.

Yelp
Great burger and even better fries!! The burger was expensive, only one choice of a $16 burger. But very busy and limited space so might have to stand and eat. Great tasting burger and the flavor and patty was great.
google avatar

Melissa I.

Yelp
Best burger in Austin by far! I highly recommend this place to everyone who visits the city.
google avatar

Kaitlin R.

Yelp
Delicious burger - would give 5 stars if the operations to get the burger were easier. Waited 45 minutes to even place the order as they had one person taking orders and one working the grill. Overall tasty burger and especially the loaded fries.

Yelp
Well friends, I thought long and hard about this, and I didn't want to post an impulse review immediately after I ate there, otherwise it would've been down right inappropriate. Look, the vibe was cool enough, the bar that it was housed in was great, but the service was less than average and the burger was just average. NADC stands for "Not A Damn Chance", meaning "you get what you get, so don't throw a fit." So to be clear, there's NADC that they're modifying your order, unless you have food allergies, or you ask super nicely. So really there's sometimes a small chance. Maybe, SASC Burger? Doesn't quite have the same ring to it I guess. Anyway, joking aside, even though the beard behind the register was rude (maybe a gimmick?), he was still able to bend the rules for me and turn NADC into SASC, which I appreciated. The main reason for 2 stars however is the quality of food versus the pricing. I understand smash burgers are the new thing, but $20 for just a fun-size burger? No fries, no drink, no bacon, no love. I'm just sayin' you could Uber from Rainey to P Terry's, Whataburger, In and Out, or Wendy's and spend less money for safe transportation and more food. In summary, I'm happy to pay top prices for top quality, there's just NADC this joint does the trick...er...there might be SASC if I'm famished and hammered. Cheers.

Yelp
Idk about this burger. I mean the burger itself is great, but not for $16. Those burgers should cost $8, and then they'd hit the sweet balance between what you get and what you pay for. And don't get me wrong, I have nothing against $16 burgers, but that one was definitely not in that category. I mean it's on par with all the great smashed burgers I've tried, but they all were under $10.
google avatar

Henry T.

Yelp
Long line to order. Burger is good, but not special. Fries are ok. Atmosphere is ok, but not a fun place to hang out.
google avatar

Kellen P.

Yelp
Holy moly!! Y'all! This burger slaps! But seriously. I've had some pretty delicious smashburgers but this one is up there. NADC: Not A Damn Chance Burger includes 1/3 Ib Iron Table Premium Wagyu Beef, American Cheese, Secret Sauce, Onions, Pickles (the onions and pickles have a little bit of a jalapeño kick but honestly it's not overly spicy). The secret sauce mixed with the cheese is out of this world. You can choose to sit in the back patio (there's a tv with sports games on), inside up front near the bar or outside in the front patio. The patio speakers were a tad loud but didn't keep us from falling in love again with this burger. The service was friendly and helpful. They even cut our burger in half when asked. I will be going back. And let me just add, this burger was sooooo good, there's Not A Damn Chance I'm sharing it. NADC.

Yelp
Come to Houston Texas an youll get a way better burger this was super overrated. No way this is the best burger in Austin or Texas in general ... hell no and over priced the fries was fire ! That's it
google avatar

Dan S.

Yelp
Food is amazing, service is out standing. Nice atmosphere music is hip definitely will be back. A little pricey for a burger
google avatar

Cayla G.

Yelp
The burgers are delicious albeit quite expensive. I don't know that it is worth the cost given the lack of parking, lack of seating, and limited libations. I enjoyed the burger, but I think I will continue making my own smash patties at home and pocket the money saved for a better dining experience elsewhere.
google avatar

Orlando F.

Yelp
Simplicity at it's finest. My daughter and I were super excited to try these out and we were not disappointed. The loaded fries are amazing as well... I paid nearly $90 for three burgers and three fries...that was with the complimentary water. It's a great ONE time experience but I'm in the wrong tax bracket to enjoy this on a regular basis...‍
google avatar

Yelp
Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had! I will say, it is pricey, but this is the perfect burger to have after bar hopping. NADC is located inside Idle Hands on Rainey and you order at the window in the back.
google avatar

Schelly Y.

Yelp
NADC burger is located in the back of the Idle Hands bar on Rainey St. Remember to bring your ID as it is 21 and over (even to just eat a burger). Walk to the back to put in your order and then they will call out your name once your food is ready. Menu is simple with just a burger, grilled cheese, fries, and cheesecake. Drink orders are at the bar. Solid burger. I'm not a huge sauce person so not my favorite personally but still pretty good.
google avatar

Moquita Q.

Yelp
The burger that they give you was MID, if I'm being honest, comparing it to Trill Burgers in Houston, I wish they put more thought into the type of seasoning they use for their burger sauce and even the seasoning they sprinkle on the meat right before it's grilled. The quality of the meat was very good but it's wagyu so I would expect nothing but the most tender meat but it's like they solely depended on the unseasoned, barely flavorful meat to carry this burger into the top 10 percent spot and I'm here to bring places with crappy customer service and a crap menu back down to reality. I went here because I fell for a "clearly" paid food influencer post on their alleged "amazing" burger. They don't sell fries or deserts or beverages, just a mid burger with bad customer service. The guy was clearly over worked, and underpaid, so much so that he barely speaks, has sort of like a stank face at all times, and struggles to grill and prepare literally the only item available on the menu. There was plenty of seating at this place because hardly no one ate there. If they did, they were like me and were referred there by paid food influencers I'm sure. I could totally relate to complete strangers after tasting our first bite, we were expecting a Trill Burger burst of flavor but nah. It was MID so I finished it. I did pay $16 after all so I didn't want it to go to waste. This place is connected to a bar and the bar is pretty dope, everything that this burger place lacks, the bar has! Great customer service, amazing drinks, excellent ambiance, seating can be a challenge, and they even refer you to places that sell the best burgers and fries in Austin. I ended up going to The Peached Tortilla for their burgers as a referral and it was amazing just like they recommended. Please stay tuned for my review of that place! Chefs kiss!

Yelp
NADC Burger is soooo good, yet so bad! I love a good smash burger, and NADC serves one of the best. If you're looking for a cheat day, sneak on over to the back of Idle Hands for a good time... with NADC! I also like the attitude NADC serves, because if you're looking for customization to your meal, they live by their namesake... NOT A DAMN CHANCE (unless you're lactose intolerant, then there is mercy). The patties are made from wagyu beef (quality), and with the sauces, the chopped pickles, the cheese... just simply WOW, OMG, DELISH. Be prepared to get down and dirty!

Megan D.

Yelp
Really was looking forward to trying this place, planned our evening based on listed hours, but when we arrived at 11 there was a man at the entrance saying they were closed. Very disappointed.

Ray B.

Yelp
We came here because we thought it was a smash burger. The burger was seasoned and tasted good but not the kind of smash burger we envisioned with a really great crust. Instead it was a burger that was smashed and had some good seasoning but no crust on it. The cheese was melty and the sauce was tasty. The service was great. The guy was friendly. It's inside a place you have to show your ID to get into. It's a bar type of feel but more chill and a relaxing area outside with tvs and areas to sit.

Mitchell C.

Yelp
Overpriced and burger lacked actual flavor. The restaurant relies on its social media marketing as opposed to its merits to make a profit.
google avatar

Dave R.

Yelp
This is noting but hype... if the service was halfway decent it would be an ok place.. The service at the Rainey Street location within IdleHands was garbage at best. The burger is good but far from a $20 burger after they add auto gratuity to for "our Staff Wellness Service Charge - https://www.idlehandsaustin.com/staff-wellness-service-charge" How about you pay for it yourself as the cost of the burger isn't worth what you charge.. Get staff that want to be there and earns their money. Auto gratuity is a horrible thing as there is no incentive to provide any service as they get the money regardless. Save your money and go somewhere else that makes an effort!
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Honestly I wasn't sure what to even expect, my husband and son had come here and raved about it. I am very picky and I get scared trying new places. Let me tell you, it was amazing. One of the best burgers I have ever had. The dude that took our order was cool, place was clean, the dude at the bar made me a strong ass vodka/soda water, the music was great too. I would completely recommend this place. Or both places.
google avatar

Alice Y.

Yelp
Woke up from a late night of drinking and was craving a burger and since it was so conveniently located just steps from Hotel Van Zandt, decided to give it a try. Was tough to find since it's inside a bar all the way back through the hallway. Simple menu. We ordered 2 burgers and fries. Burger was absolutely delicious and everything and more that I was looking for. 2 Pattie's of Wagyu, pickles, onions and cheese and that sauce. It was a bit peppery and oh so yummy. One of those places where you need a lot of napkins for all the messiness of the sauce but really good. A bit rich for first thing in the morning haha but I left satiated. The fries were fries. And you have to order drinks at the bar. Was a great find.
google avatar

Sara B.

Yelp
Small but mighty place! A little pricey but holy moly it's worth it!!! Grab a marg while you wait and enjoy
google avatar

Frank C.

Yelp
It was good, but maybe a bit over priced. The wagyu was good, but didn't taste like it was worth $16... overall, good experience
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
I've been following Neen (one of the Founders) on IG for awhile now and would occasionally see him post food pics with the hashtag #NADC. Glad to see he was able to turn his passion for demolishing food into a burger joint in Austin. Not a lot of food items on their menu (guess they didn't stand a chance), but really most people are probably only interested in their 1/3 Premium Wagyu Beef Burger and Fries. Given the high quality of beef used I would prefer way less sauce and a little more toast on my buns, but overall it's a solid burger (Kenan & Kel would be in heaven). Fries were hot & crispy! I'll be back (Ahnold voice)!

Bobby T.

Yelp
Amazing. Expensive but worth it. The burgers are as rich and flavorful as you will find anywhere.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
An odd ordering experience but the burgers are definitely good. I'd recommend a visit if you are in town.. I would not recommend the grilled cheese. It is a bit soggy and not what I expected but it might be something a vegetarian may be into. It was a bit soggy and not exactly a crispy grilled cheese as expected. Otherwise, who goes to a place known for delicious smash burgers and skips the burger? Not me.
google avatar

Dilhan B.

Yelp
One of the best smash burgers I've ever had. Fries were good too. Perfect meal to end an amazing trip to Austin. Ambiance was super cool. The place had a band playing outside. There's bar right next to the burger joint in the same building. So perfect for a chill afternoon hang.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
This burger is the best I've had! The kitchen is inside of Idle Hands and the drinks are great too!
google avatar

Adrianna H.

Yelp
BEST BURGER IN TOWN! WOW WOW WOW! I wanna go again tomorrow. It's so good and easily devoured. I attacked the fries too beast mode is delish!
google avatar

Joshua M.

Yelp
Overall score 4.6 out of 5 Super legit burger. Even the fries were really good. The meat for the burger was spectacular very high quality and juicy, cheese was delicious, they could've done better on the bun. Cool little vibe in the back of a bar I would definitely go back
google avatar

Alfonso M.

Yelp
The burgers are delicious, the quality of the meat and overall meal is great. My new favorite spot in Austin.

Elliotte L.

Yelp
it was a pretty good burger. i will say it's quite similar to hopdoddy in quality but more expensive , so honestly i would recommend just going to hopdoddy. it was fun to try tho and i enjoyed it! the burger itself melted in your mouth. i liked the sauce on the burger too. the fries weren't the best i've ever had but still good. also it took a longggg time to come out! the lady at the counter was SO sweet though. definitely a fun place to try !

Martin A.

Yelp
The burger was not good at all. I am a huge burger fanatic and have had very good burgers from all over the states. This is way over hyped - good marketing but the burger was not great over all. It's 90% grease, it drips on you, you feel bloated and gross after. It's just a greasy patty, pickles and bread...

Howard K.

Yelp
The burger was good , not as good as Culvers flame grilled, or even Top Notch. I did like the Wagu beef. The service is a zero, as the name implies. You walk up to a window to order and also to pick up at the same window, no place to sit in the narrow hallway. This place is overpriced and has nothing to write home about. 4 items on the menu, 1 burger, 2 grilled cheese, 3 plain fries, and 4 loaded cheese fries. I ordered 2 burgers and 2 Beast Fries "loaded," and they got my order wrong and gave me plain frys. However, the frys were crispy on ourtside and fluffy on the inside but extra greasy. They take orders in batches, so you wait in line until the previous batch is complete before taking orders on the next batch. "See picture." 20% gratuity added for orders, fine print on the wall posted menu, i wished i noticed before i put money in the tip jar they slso have at the window, and it is a walk-up window, so I don't get that for a burger that costs $16 ea. The sauce was great, similar to "secret sauce" in the grocery store on par with Big Mac sauce. I was duped into going here by a clearly paid influencer
