D.C. Bartenders Embracing the Zero-Waste Cocktail Movement - Eater DC

"After juicing their own oranges, the bar serves up citrus-filled jello shots in slices of leftover rind. We’ve tried a few things, including marmalade and lacto-fermentation to extend shelf life and deepen flavor. We consider it an approach to reducing waste and maximizing the value of products." - Claudia Rosenbaum

Yelp
I visited two speakeasy style places while in DC. I highly recommend Silver Lyan. The hotel itself is cool, built into an old bank. The Silver Lyan I think was the vault. It's downstairs and the experience of going from the bright and formal lobby to the intimate and vibey section downstairs sets the tone. I walk in, and they are jamming "when they reminisce over you" by Pete rock and CL smooth. Now that is some speakeasy vibe. Proper underground music in an underground vault. Now we are talking! The obscure music continued. It wasn't all hip hop. Just proper speakeasy underground vibes. The menu had these wonky stories for each drink that were hilarious because they made no sense at all and seemed to have no point! They were just these ridiculous tales. Perfect! I told the bartender by normal mixed drink taste and she whipped up a concoction for me. It was complex, savory, and a bit spicy. It was actually pretty good, but just not my vibe for a drink. She was already prepared for me not to like it but I said it was good. Still, she could sense that I didn't love it and she immediately brought something else. I would have been fine if she charged me for both but they kindly took the first drink off. Second drink was delicious with whisky citrus and bitters if I recall. They were serving a modified menu due to a private party upstairs. I got the Riggs burger. It was fantastic. Just a big ole delicious burger and fries. As the night wore on the music became more upbeat and the crowd poured in. I also had the ceviche and pizza rolls from their normal menu. Rockfish ceviche tacos were mild and delicious. I wish they had home made salsa to go with them is my only complaint. They had bottled hot sauce. The pizza rolls were fine but I'd probably skip them. They were basically cheese sticks with pepperoni. Not sure what I was expecting haha but these weren't bad but nothing exciting either. Service was friendly. They were very busy so It wasn't chatty chatty but they were friendly and fast. We shared a joke and quip here and there. Crowd was fun friendly and social. Silver Lyan is everything Allegory is trying to be and wishes it was. I came back the next night for drinks and had an equally good time. I highly recommend the Silver Lyan.

Yelp
This is the definition of a instagram TikTok bar done right! There's plenty of fun gimmicks like the ~6ft gum ball machine outside with actual gum balls to take and the decor of trophies. Ok, maybe saying this is TikTok bar is a bit much since it isn't the greatest for photos in the dim lighting but they have an eclectic selection of drinks from Jell-O shots to savory cocktails based on women's rights. Is there a distinct connection to their themes? No, but you're going to have fun trying the drinks and exploring the menu while you're here. For my drink, I couldn't help myself. I had to pull from my university roots and ordered a passion fruit Jell-O shot (which came with a sparkling wine shooter/chaser). I thought this was very good for its price, given that everything is going to be pricey in a hotel bar. If you're here with a large group, you should start off the night with this shot. What's more fun than that? Oh and the wait staff was friendly and no complaints there.

Yelp
I'm truly in love with this place, I really am. Right next (or under) cafe riggs-- and I really love how they turned a bank into a little bar. We sat right at the bar and we had such an amazing time. Got this thing called tots and shots, and it came out with a mini disco ball- how fun! The tots were good, but the ranch was on another level (the kind where I would take a bottle of it home if I could). No complaints on the pretzel bites and the lychee martini was delicious! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Super cool speakeasy located at the bottom level of a bank recommended by my DC based friend. We all met up here for post-dinner drinks and had the best time. The lychee martinis were incredible and I loved the little chocolate coin they give you at the end. Such a vibey atmosphere with lots of interesting corners to lounge in and enjoy an evening with friends. Service was super quick and attentive as well. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back next time I visit!

Yelp
The place was buzzing on a winter, weekday evening, but the host was generous and seated us right away. We had to scoot out in 90 mins so a reservation could have our place- perfect amount of time. Everyone in my party of 4 ordered something different and perfectly to our tastes. Sharp, fruity, dramatic, bitter? Covered. I ordered a Boozeless Lovejoy's Law. Typically, Boozeless (aka virgin) drinks are some form of soda with a splash of additional flavors. They are always carbonated, even if carbonation is also a problem. Not at Silver Lyan. My drink was flavorful, complicated, a really drink, and not at all bubbly. I can't wait to get another. I was also incredibly impressed with how I could hear and be heard in the bar. Definitely a value add from the many loud bars around DC

Yelp
I present to you, a haiku: Whispers in the vault, Silver Lyan's secrets hum, History pours here. Decent drinks and service. Do not go there with an appetite -- suited for late night noshing. We made an impromptu stop on a Saturday night so there was a bit of a wait. Not a big deal as we were able to hang out at Cafe Riggs (bar upstairs) until they were ready to seat us. Free gumballs :)

Yelp
I love a good speakeasy and I was thrilled to finally try Silver Lyan last week after grabbing a late Sunday dinner at Cafe Riggs. After dinner with some friends we were in the mood to hang for a bit longer and lucky for us there was a speakeasy right underneath us! Our group of 4 went downstairs around 10 pm and were able to get a table right away with no reservation. We walked through some dimly lit 2 person tables to the back where there were couches and bigger tables for groups. Surrounding the tables were cabinets of trophies, pinks booths, mini lamps, and wood paneling. And on the tables were menus with with cool leaflets(?) to make the pages pop and give you that cutesy speakeasy vibe. Our waiter came by right away and brought us waters while we looked through our menus. I must admit the names and descriptions of drinks are rather unique so you may need a little help making a decision. I opted for the drink that included "sunshine" and tequila because you can't go wrong with those! It was very refreshing and a nice wrap to the evening. I believe they did last call around 11 pm, but I'm not sure if that was just for our table based on reservations or when they close. So we went ahead and closed out and dropped off some chocolate silver coins and we were on our way. Truthfully I get the hype and will definitely be back. I'm a fan of Cafe Riggs and will be sure to add this as my "next spot" moving forward!

Yelp
Silver Lyan - good but not great. The atmosphere is amazing and the service is top notch. It's nestled down an inconspicuous staircase in a fancy hotel right in downtown DC. However, the music is clamorous and the cocktails are not tasty enough to justify the $19 price tag. I could barely hear my friends across the table and had to ask them to repeat every sentence twice. The drinks were balanced but nothing unique or out of this world. While they used interesting ingredients (eg, "sunshine"), I don't think these ingredients stood out or added enough flavor to make a drink quirky or special. We tried their Press Gang Daisy, Oceanwide Fix, and Cuvee Marie Pantalon Pants. Maybe we just chose the wrong options?

Yelp
This gem was found past the giant gimbal machine on the lower level. Ambiance was on par with an 80s Soviet-Russo lounge. Sleek and dim lit, velvet seating and round tables. Hidden past a cloud adorned curtain, it was a whole vibe, which made the experience worth it. The food was excellent- oysters, ceviche tacos-on the smaller cocktail side but definitely delicious. The wagyu hotdog was a good portion and full of flavor. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
I just don't get the hype of this place. I've heard so many rave reviews, and I see that they keep winning awards, but I just can't figure out why, except that people in DC love throwing their money away on "vibes." I tried about 4 cocktails on the menu, and they all tasted exactly the same. I wish I was exaggerating. No matter what the spirit or ingredients, each cocktail tasted watered down and exactly the same. I also hate that the cocktails are all pre-made, especially considering each drink costs $20+. $20 for a pre-made batch cocktail is wild to me. Especially when it doesn't even taste good. Our bartender also seemed new to both the bar and bartending in general. She couldn't describe the drinks and didn't even know what some of the ingredients were in the drinks (including what larvae is). She also wasn't familiar with some pretty common classic cocktails, such as an Aviation. Another bartender had to tell her how to make it, and then it tasted horrible the first time she made it. Luckily, that same bartender was able to help her out, and it tasted better the second time around. I know that every bartender can't possibly memorize every single drink out there, but for a cocktail bar of this caliber, I'd expect them to be familiar with at least some of the classics. I've been to almost every cocktail bar in DC, and this one is my least favorite. Perhaps I just came on an off night, or perhaps I'm just not their target audience (in the words of Keith Lee). The host was very nice, and the products in the bathroom smelled lovely, however.

Yelp
Silver Lyan is an excellent speakeasy-type bar in the basement of the Riggs Hotel. It's a former bank vault, so don't expect any cell service...at all. I love the trophy room and feel like it's such a unique and lavish experience, without completely breaking the bank. The servers have always been knowledgeable and excited to speak to the cocktails. There are always some wacky ingredients listed, and the staff are happy to answer any questions we have. I've been to Silver Lyan 2x now, and both times I have enjoyed the ambiance and the drinks. Docking one star for cost and service - while the staff are all friendly, both times I've been, our server has just disappeared for 20-30 minutes at a time. This second time, our waiter forgot to put in our hot dog order for probably 40 minutes - he gave us a chocolate token as a "sorry", but I would've preferred a comped or discounted snack! The price is a bit expensive, but it is worth it. It's a nice place to celebrate a birthday or an occasion, just special enough for a memorable evening.

Yelp
When you have a bad dinner, you need a good drink to wash it down. So, when my friend took me here after the Wharf, I was happily surprised. Food/ drinks: 5/5 Let me be candid, the drinks here are not cheapest and neither is the food. But, for me, it was worth every cent. I got probably the best Old Fashioned, I have had in a minute. It was smooth and gave me the warmth I was looking for. My friend enjoyed their drink, as well. We ordered the tater tots which I can say were the best I ever had. Our bill landed around $66 (w. Tips). Service: 5/5 Spectacular, stunning, and ready to help if you have a dietary restriction. Our server, was so considerate of my lactose intolerance which helped me feel more comfortable with this visit. All in all, I will definitely come back by myself or with a friend. It is such a vibe and a great way to spend a weekend night!

Yelp
Visited for a late reservation. We were immediately greeted and seated with our reservation. The service was phenomenal with the staff giving drink recommendations based upon your flavor profile. We tried about four different drinks on the menu and all were fantastic. I liked the lowlight ambiance and music. The tables are very small which makes eating a little challenging and the seating area is intimate. But Silver Lyan is truly a gem for an intimate evening of drinks. $$$ Valet with Hotel Riggs is available and there is nearby street parking

Yelp
Ugh, I just love Silver Lyan. This swanky bar is not really a speakeasy, but it can be hard to find if you don't know where to look. The hotel staff however is very kind and nice and will direct you. Both times I've came here I didn't have a reservation and did walk in. The first time was Sunday evening, so it wasn't that packed and we only waited around the bar for about 10 minutes. We got the adult Jell-o shots. They are a bit on the pricier end, but Silver Lyan is known for that so we just had to get them! They were so cute. The Jell-O was placed in the respective fruit in a garden basket paired with champagne to cleanse the palette after each shot. 10/10 would recommend. The second time I came here was for the cherry blossom pop-up. I was constantly searching online to find a reservation, but everything was booked up. We decided to just go with our luck and walk-in. We had to wait around a bit more this time for a table, but well worth the wait. The decorations were lovely. I felt like I was transported out of DC and into Japan! The music is always on point! It's definitely such a vibe to grab a night cap.

Yelp
What a dope bar! It's in the basement of Hotel Riggs and used to be an old bank vault. It's very cozy, intimate, and sexy in there! Service was amazing. From the host, to the servers, and bartenders- everyone was great. Very friendly. Always made sure we were good and happy. Gave great recommendations. First round we let our server recommend something based off of our preferences. I got the perkin's purple patch and my girlfriend got the smith island snap. Really loved mine. Can we also talk about how beautiful these cocktails are?? Do you see the shell in the smith island snap? Wow! Or how about the bee larvae in the air bee n bee, wild! Okay we also ordered the kiwi cocktail which was my favorite!! The shrimp rim is so unique and brings a fun touch to the drink. Our server Nick was so kind to bring us a deconstructed French 75 - very fun! As for snacks, we got the pretzel bites which were warm and soft. But what really impressed me was the Chex mix. With seaweed and smoked tea - wow!!!! Hard to stop eating them We had a blast here! Definitely will come back again! It's perfect for date night or with a friend. But also saw tons of work groups as well!

Yelp
Service was great! Was able to walk in and grab communal seating and was able to try multiple drinks. Food items were a great pairing. Overall outstanding vibe and wonderful experience! We will be back for sure!

Yelp
Bar is okay. Highly priced, but not exceptional compared to other location downtown charging the same cocktail prices. My friend loves champagne and has been drinking it prior to dinner always. The champagne glass he got here was flat, not sure if not many people are ordering champagne so the opened bottle was sitting in the fridge for a while, but for the price of champagne it was disappointing. He ended up ordering a whole bottle so it'll be fresh.

Yelp
Cute little speakeasy type feel in the bottom floor of Hotel Griggs. Our waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable on all drinks and checked in on us frequently. Drinks were tasty albeit definitely on the pricey side even for DC- around $20/drink on average. The place could've used a little more AC/air circulation but the vibe was cute nonetheless. Good place for a date.

Yelp
Always such a great time and vibes at Silver Lyan!! Expect to find a swanky and unique speakeasy that exudes top tier service and fantastic cocktails to match. The food and drinks are all prepared with the utmost care and attention. As many times as I've been here, I've never been disappointed!! Whether looking for somewhere to grab a drink before a concert or game at the Capital One Arena... Or looking for somewhere to had a great date, celebrate a special event or make a night of it -- Silver Lyan is likely your place!!

Yelp
Super cool spot for drinks. The ambiance is low-lit and chill. The drinks are picture-worthy and delicious but a little costly. Good service too!

Yelp
5 stars for the cherry blossom experience. The drinks on the limited menu were all excellent. Between the two of us we tried all 4: sakura martini, gardenia sour, daifuku punch and kasugai cosmopolitan. Here's my breakdown: Sakura martini- botanical, savoury, I would recommend for gin fans Gardenia sour- tasted the most like the mixer, light, fizzy, lemony Daifuku punch- sweet, balanced, this would be good for someone who doesn't like a strong alcoholic taste but still wants to taste the alcohol in their drink Kasugai cosmo- not really a cosmo (no cranberry juice and made with suntory toki) but this was my favourite, tart, reminded me of a pisco sour We also got tater tots and they were nice and crunchy! A solid bar snack! And there were many more snacks available for those wanting something more substantial. The service was very good and the decor reminded me of the opening part of John Wick 4 which is a positive as far as I'm concerned.

Yelp
From the moment we stepped into Silver Lyan, its unique interior left us mesmerized. The stylish decor blends modern chic with cozy vibes, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for a night out. My friends and I chose to visit at night for cocktails, and we were not disappointed. The highlight was their signature Panna Cotta--a delightful drink with a unique flavor profile that intrigued our taste buds and became the star of our evening. Each cocktail was expertly crafted, showcasing creativity and attention to detail that set Silver Lyan apart. The vibrant music paired seamlessly with the lively ambiance, enhancing our overall experience and making the evening truly enjoyable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring our glasses were never empty and that we felt welcomed throughout our visit. Silver Lyan is more than just a place to grab a drink; it's a destination for creating memorable moments with friends. Whether you're looking for a romantic night out or a fun evening with loved ones, Silver Lyan offers the perfect setting. I highly recommend visiting to experience their fantastic cocktails, great music, and the warm, inviting atmosphere. I'm already looking forward to my next visit for another round of drinks and good vibes!

Yelp
Favorite. Cocktail Bar. In. DC. Heck, it might even be the best cocktail bar that I've ever been to. Service-- sublime. The staff really know their cocktails-- the purple cocktail I had was the best cocktail I've ever had in my life. Ambiance-- fantastic. Super classy and perfect for a girls night out, special occasion drinks, or date night.

Yelp
We often stay in Riggs hotel for our anniversary, but had never been to this bar before. The hotel made a reservation for us here which was in the basement of the hotel, and it was amazing. We were not expecting a hotel cocktail bar to be good, but the drinks were exquisite. The placed us in a more private area with a couch and curtains we could close if we really wanted to but did not feel the need to. We sipped amazing drinks with our feet up on the couch for hours. I have no idea why, but their tater tots are incredible. Why is a food typically for children incredible? I have no idea how they did that, but we are getting them the next time we go. We also ordered the fried chicken, and it was also fantastic. One of the drinks my hubby ordered was not available, so our server comped us both one round of drinks on him. We had no bad drinks at all, and eventually the server told us he understood our palate and we trusted him to bring us drinks--all fantastic. Absolutely, go here. Must try.

Yelp
We adored our date night out in DC at Silver Lyan! Nestled within the historic Riggs Hotel, this cocktail bar is a true gem. The ambiance is candescent and sophisticated, with dim lighting, transporting patrons to a time of hidden speakeasies and forbidden pleasures. The bartenders are true artisans, crafting innovative and impeccably balanced cocktails. Each drink is a delightful blend of flavors that surprise and delight. The staff's knowledge and hospitality elevate the experience even further. Whether you're a cocktail connoisseur or just looking for an exceptional night out, Silver Lyan is a must-visit. Easily the best cocktail bar in DC - five stars!

Yelp
Great vibes and ambiance! Excellent customer service and recommendations. We are traveling here and didn't have reservations and they made accommodations for us. We had amazing cocktails and experience! Would recommend checking out!

Yelp
Speakeasy bar in the bottom of Riggs hotel. It's a nice place to hang out with friends. I was a fan of their cannibal old fashioned, tater tots and hot dog. Hot dog is made of waygu beef and pretty good and also enjoyed the tater tots but a little pricey for what you get.
google avatar

Nupur C.

Yelp
I had the most delightful time at Silver Lyan. The drinks were amazing, the servers were so kind and fun, and the speakeasy vibe was so cute. Teddy and Sally were amazing and we will be back to see them at the very least since they made our whole night. :)

Yelp
Fun atmosphere and unique drinks! Definitely try the candied pinecone. We also loved our server!

Yelp
I'd put this in the category of places Instagram has bamboozled me by. Ok, that's a strong word because this spot is pretty neat to check out but a Reel can really hype a place up. To find the bar, go in the hotel and take the stairs or elevator down. This was previously a vault in a bank - pretty cool! I like the idea of a dark and mysterious vibe. But the glass covered cabinets holding trophies... I didn't quite get. Onto the drinks: very pricy, unique cocktails. It was hard to pick because they lost me on the ingredients. Maybe I'm not fancy enough. Didn't realize I ordered a drink with a worm on it, lol. Our server was great though! Anyways, this was a one and done spot for me but cool to see.

Yelp
Silver Lyan Speakeasy at Riggs Hotel is an absolute gem. My second visit last night reaffirmed why it's a must-visit spot. The service is top-notch, with a team of servers dedicated to ensuring our cocktails arrived promptly. The ambiance has such a great vibe, setting the tone for an amazing date night. The small bites were delicious additions to our experience. This place has become a staple for me, and I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Such a cute little speak easy! Went here for the cherry blossom pop up! The drinks were really good! Made a reservation (which was really hard to get BTW) and then we weren't even sat in the cherry blossom part of the bar that was decorated
google avatar

Yelp
Reserved a booth for the night and it was great! Service was on point and you get complimentary champagne with the reserved booth. The drinks were great and the food was amazing (loved the pizza bagels!). The initial check in was awkward and kind of rude (we showed up 10 minutes early, were not greeted, and essentially shooed away in a dismissive manner). Kind of wack when it was my birthday celebration and we shelled out nearly $1000 for the night. The service after made up for it.

Yelp
Managed to snag a last minute reservation a few days in advance for Saturday evening. The entire place is very dark, including its bathrooms, are located in basement of Cafe Riggs / Riggs Hotel. The reservation lasted for two hours and we had a good time trying their signature cocktails. I got the air bee n bee, which has an initial sweet thingy taste but ends off with a smoky after taste. Their menu changes from time to time so I would love to return in the future to try other drinks on the menu.
google avatar

Charnika P.

Yelp
Came here evening drinks with work colleagues. Was pleasantly surprised as I never even knew this we here even though I have crossed the hotel it's in several times. This hidden gem is great if you are trying to have a low key first date. The sitting is very intimate. You def need a reservation and unfortunately they are extremely strict on the 2 hours only reservation even if no one is even waiting for the table. The drinks are unique and tasty, and the small bites are perfect as well. Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Brandon H.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and vibe, there was a cherry blossom them and drink menu. My first drink, with a bee larvae garnish, was different and tasted good. My 2nd drink, tasted good but seemed a bit "plain" for the venue. For my 3rd drink, I got a Roku gin Negroni, which was great. Our server was friendly and chatted with us about how the drinks/ideas are created and expanded upon, which was very interesting! Would love to go back

Yelp
In the mood for bougie crafted cocktails? Check out Silver Lyan. This place has tons of character. First, the restaurant is in the basement of an old bank. The lights are dim and the decor is swanky. It definitely gives you 1920s prohibition/speak easy vibes. Second, the bartenders, if you even can call them that, were more like artist. You don't order a drink by its name, instead you order based on how you feel and the taste you're looking for. The drink menu, explains it all. Lastly, they offer small plates, so don't expect to order a "full meal." You visit this place a precursor to the next stop. Do yourself a favor and get there early.

Yelp
Silver Lyan is in the basement of the Hotel Riggs - when you enter, turn right towards the reception desk and go down the stairs, past the giant gum ball machine and bank vault door. Reservation highly recommended. The space is dark and sexy, with lots of wood and deep red tones. They definitely set a mood for an occasion or date. However, we felt they focus more on being instagrammable than on crafting satisfying drinks. The four we tried ranged from "just ok" to "hard to stomach." The drinks are around $19-$23 apiece. My favorite of the bunch was the king pausa, which has vodka, green coffee, malt, and sherry; it is served chilled to perfection and went down smooth despite being a boozier drink. Very unique. However, the smith island snap was hard to swallow. The ice cube was cool - it had sea shells embedded in it - but the drink was way too salty and had an unpleasant flavor. I ended with a project manhattan. Rather than deliver a well mixed take on the classic, they felt the need to tinker with it - it is fine but slightly medicinal, like drinking alcoholic cough syrup. The food, thankfully, hit the spot. I can't recommend the tater tots enough. They are round, salty, perfectly crispy, and served with a nice ranch sauce. Can't skip it. The hot dog was tasty as well. Theirs has wagyu beef topped with kimchi. It was good, though the much cheaper hot dogs at Ivy and Coney are better. The chicken and biscuit is really good, though, and very interesting. You get four small pieces for easy sharing.

Yelp
Nestled in the Riggs hotel, the Silver Lyan is a unique cocktail lounge downstairs in the building's former bank vault. The innovative cocktails, creatively crafted, tell captivating stories with each sip. Staff recommendations guide you through unique options. The stunning location adds to the charm, utilizing the old bank vault. While prices are high, the experience, with chic ambiance and top-notch service, is worth every penny. Yes, it's a little pretentious, but that's part of the vibe and fun. Some of the notable ingredients in our drinks were bee larvae and snail. For a less adventurous drink, the lychee martini was my favorite! I also really enjoyed that they gave little chocolate coins with the bill as homage to the bank theme. A must-visit for cocktail enthusiasts, offering a unique blend of creativity and history in a single glass.

Yelp
**gorgeous drinks, beautiful dim lighting, and nice location! **drinks I'm not a huge drinks person but I still enjoyed the cocktails here! They were well-blended and not too strong in alcohol. The presentation is lovely: I had a drink with glitter on it! **service Our server was SO nice and attentive. He gave us a lot of recommendations and my friends and I had a fun time talking to him. **ambiance I love the comfy seats! We sat on a cushioned couch type seat. The lighting is dim and ambient. This would be a fantastic date night location. **logistics It's DC, so definitely Uber or walk here. The bar is located on the base floor of a hotel (I think the building used to be a bank?). There was a random gumball machine outside and a vault-type decoration too. The stairs are gorgeous--this is a good place for pics!

Yelp
Came here for cocktails one evening after dinner in a group of 4. It was a really cool venue, down stairs and in an old bank vault. It had a really cool vibe and we were seated and served quickly. The drinks, while on the expensive side (priced between $18-$22), was expected for this part of DC at a nicer upscale bar. We got a few different cocktails and all were pretty good. The most unique was the Air Bee N Bee with a smoked bee larvae on top.

Yelp
Nice ambiance for a cocktail bar. The service was a little slow and the drinks were a bit pricey. The Jell-O shot basket was unique and cool!

Yelp
This is a nice bar in the basement of the hotel inside an old bank safe. The parasol punch is delicious, as are the tater tots! Our server was attentive and came over to joke and keep the mood light.

Yelp
Gorgeous ambience, great drinks and service! This bar is located in the basement of the Riggs hotel and it was an old bank that has been renovated into this classy bar. The service is really on point with all the servers being super attentive; a couple people in our group had allergies which all the waitstaff took seriously and were really accommodating. The menu is extensive! There are tons of interesting drink options, I also really appreciate that many of the drinks had the option to make it booze-less, thus making it very accommodating for a group that has both drinkers and non drinkers. Our favorite drink of the night was the King Pausa which had a really surprising both sweet and savory taste to it. We also enjoyed how at the end they gave us chocolate coins that had Silver Lyan printed on it, really tying in the bank theme. Reservations are easy to make and they are for a 2 hour time period.

Yelp
Behind the vault is an amazing array of stunning cocktails, an intimate vibe and a night you won't soon forget. Staff is phenomenal and helps you make selections that will instantly delight your palate.

Yelp
Silver Lyan has a really cool vibe. You go downstairs of the hotel tell where a giant vault is. Through curtains so it is almost hidden. Very dark inside with good seating options. Service was fine. The server was fast and friendly however was not helpful at all with drink recommendations and questions we had. I personally did not like my drink. It was over $20 and not only did it not taste good, but it wasn't pretty. Usually craft cocktail places have elborate drinks, but this place not so much. We also got a tiny bowl of tater tots to share for $9. I personally would try another craft cocktail place in DC instead of coming here because the drinks and presentation of the drinks weren't worth the hype.

Yelp
Loved drinks at the Silver Lyan. This is a cocktail bar for people who want to explore new ingredients. You may not know exactly what everything is, but the knowledgeable servers helped guide me in the right direction. To add to the excellent cocktails, they have some delicious small plates. We ordered the wagyu hot dog and hamachi tartare. I didn't know what to expect from the wagyu hot dog, but I was absolutely blown away. Toss any memories of eating a hot dog out the window. We did a 7pm reservation here and followed it up with an 8pm reservation at Cafe Riggs. This is the perfect amount of time to explore the cocktail menu and get a few small plates before starting dinner. The only downside of the bar is that cell phone service isn't ideal - since you are in an old bank vault - but it isn't too big, so you should be able to find your friend/date.

Yelp
I finally made it to Silver Lyan and loved it. It's a cozy basement spot in the Hotel Riggs with great vibes. My friend and I enjoyed the martini service, oysters and the Chex mix.
