"With a ceiling mural of the Northern Lights, the airy dining space is a nod to chef Tung’s stint in Finland. On entering, diners first catch sight of the open kitchen before they are greeted by the chefs. Only one multi-course tasting menu is offered, and it changes every three months in line with the seasons. Chef Tung’s small plates are creative and original, paying tribute to Vietnamese food culture in terms of ingredients, flavours and techniques." - Michelin Inspector

"? by Tung’s Nordic architecture immediately stands out from the neighboring Vietnamese shophouses in the trendy Dakao Ward. The restaurant is a tribute to Northern Europe, where chef Hoang Tung developed his passion for fine dining. A meal here is an immersive experience, from the minimalist interior to the 19-course tasting menu, which changes every three months. Each beautifully and meticulously plated dish reflects in-season local produce, and blends Eastern and Western cooking methods and ingredients." - Linh Phan

A by Trung delivers a genuinely memorable fine-dining experience that stands out in Ho Chi Minh City’s increasingly sophisticated culinary landscape. The food is the clear hero: unexpected, confident and technically precise. Each course unfolds as a flavour bomb, marrying the clean restraint of Scandinavian cuisine with the depth, freshness and aromatic complexity of Vietnamese ingredients. The result is surprising without being gimmicky—thoughtful combinations that feel purposeful and expertly balanced. The ambience complements the food beautifully. The space is refined and intimate, allowing the focus to remain on the dining experience itself. Service is exemplary: attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable, and clearly invested in guiding guests through the concept and the story behind each dish. Overall, A by Trung is a strong and coherent concept executed at a very high level. For anyone seeking a contemporary fine-dining experience in HCM—particularly one that pushes boundaries while remaining grounded in local influence—this is an essential destination.

A by T.U.N.G. offers a memorable dining experience, especially when it comes to the creativity and depth of flavor in the dishes. Each course comes with a small information card explaining the ingredients and their background, which ended up being one of my favorite touches. It added context and made the meal feel more informative. Not everything was perfect. A few service moments felt a bit off, and the overall atmosphere didn’t always match the level of the food. Some touchpoints of the experience came across very gimmicky and impersonal. That said, the tableside presentations were genuinely fun and helped bring some energy and excitement back into the experience. Even with a couple of hiccups, the restaurant is still worth visiting if you’re interested in inventive masterful cooking and thoughtful exploration of Vietnamese ingredients.

My wife and I enjoyed the Lighthouse Menu a lot at A. This was a whimsical, happy, creative experience infusing touches of Vietnamese cuisine into a contemporary style. Service was very attentive and friendly. I also loved that some of the proceeds of the meal went towards a charitable cause. Usually, we can pinpoint a favourite course, but this menu was filled with delights and we honestly could not choose. The pho two ways was particularly creative. I loved that the beer pairing featured only beers from Vietnam. So many great beers! We will definitely return for their other menus. This was easily the best meal we had in Vietnam! Anyone who likes fine dining owes it to themselves to try this restaurant when they come to Ho Chi Minh City.

Wonderful evening. The flavor explosion in the dishes is amazing. Service is welcoming and warm, however can sometimes be a bit hard to understand the explanations. I truly enjoyed how they included some visual/ interactive elements without making it too cheesy. Only negative was that they don’t give you the description cards which they do in Hanoi :/ the waiter told me they are low in stock which was a real bummer because I collect them as a memory. Oh well the experience will remain in my memory ! Thank you to the tung team!

We had a great dinner at A by Tung on our last night of our trip. Every dish was great, and the flavours were well-balanced. The chef is extremely talented with curating dishes that reflects a specific theme. We highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a set-menu dinner in Saigon and looking to have a good time with friends or family!

I came here to try the plant based tasting menu and it didn’t not disappoint! Everything that came out looked gorgeous! I’ve never tasted so many different flavors all interacting at once it was great! The desert was also a perfect touch and the staff was super sweet:)

A by TUNG First of all, thank you to Ngan, our food attendant, and the chefs for your effort and service during our dinner. I truly appreciate A by Tung for the attempt to create a lovely dining experience. The dishes clearly show strong technique and creativity. Ngan also did a wonderful job presenting the story and explaining the special Halloween menu, and we sincerely appreciate how kindly she listened to our feedback. Unfortunately, the dinner overall didn’t quite deliver the message that Chef Tung seemed to intend. The menu lacked umami depth from start to finish. While the preparation and details were good, the flavors often didn’t come together cohesively, leaving the experience somewhat underwhelming. Starters – “Thì Thầm” It would be better to start with a warm pre-bread rather than cold seafood. Oyster: Fresh and standard. Amaebi shrimp: Bland even with caviar; texture too soft. Tuna belly: Refreshing sauce but slightly fishy. Octopus: The first dish that brought dynamic flavors — it gave me hope for the rest of the night. Pork Tart: Creative concept, but unfortunately the tart was soggy and not warm. Parmesan Roll: Luckily helped balance the flavors, though the layout of these three dishes didn’t complement each other well. Foie Gras Phở: Finally something with umami — the broth was refreshing, but the foie gras completely overpowered it. The accompanying “phở cake” was like a tasteless macaron, and I didn’t quite get the concept. Oyster (second course): Fresh with a nice texture and great idea pairing it with a cracker. Fish: The ingredients were fresh and every detail was creative, but I expected more umami and a crunchier texture. The micro portions didn’t complement each other well, and both the soup and the dish itself should have been served hotter. Duck: The ingredients were well chosen, but the sauce was overly salty. Fried Rice: Even saltier. I understand XO sauce adds saltiness, but serving it right after the duck made both dishes overwhelmingly salty and unbalanced — nothing memorable remained from the main course. Dessert: Thankfully, every dessert plate was light, balanced, and delicious — it truly saved the dinner. Conclusion: The overall journey felt a bit unmemorable, with a lack of umami in the early courses and an overly salty finish. I believe the menu could be rearranged and refined to better balance flavors and enhance the umami profile. I trust Chef Tung has the talent to deliver truly amazing food, as the restaurant’s concept and presentation promise.
