"Katz’s serves New York’s favorite pastrami sandwich, a meat central to the city’s carnivorous identity, and indeed it may have originated here. At Katz’s, it’s not just a humongous pile of pink cured beef, but one in which the flavor is richer and emphatically smokier than other popular versions served around town. It’s a dish that New Yorkers have craved and relished for over a hundred years. And this is one of the few places that still cuts it by hand." - Eater Staff

"One of the last-standing, old-time Eastern European spots on the Lower East Side, Katz’s is a true NY institution. It’s crowded, crazy and packed with a panoply of characters weirder than a jury duty pool. Tourists, hipsters, blue hairs and everybody in between flock here, so come on off-hours. Because it’s really that good. Walk inside, get a ticket and don’t lose it (those guys at the front aren’t hosts—upset their system and you’ll get a verbal beating). Then pick up your food at the counter and bring it to a first-come first-get table; or opt for a slightly less dizzying experience at a waitress-served table.Nothing’s changed in the looks or taste. Matzo ball soup, pastrami sandwiches, potato latkes—everything is what you’d expect, only better." - Michelin Inspector

"To be clear, this is not a full-on Katz’s. It’s A Taste of Katz’s—in other words, a kiosk serving a truncated menu of the iconic Lower East Side deli’s fan faves. Maybe it’s the subterranean setting, or maybe it’s the fact that there isn’t a dedicated hot dog station, but the food at this outpost doesn't seem quite as impressive at first glance. And yet, we’d consume a towering pastrami sandwich from here in a heartbeat. This is not a light lunch, but it is an elite one." - neha talreja, will hartman, bryan kim, willa moore
"In honor of the Brooklyn opening, I noted Katz’s Delicatessen collaborated with Veselka to create the pastrogi — a pierogi stuffed with pastrami — which is available for a limited time by mail order and at the Brooklyn location; Justin Birchard described the partnership as “celebrating two Lower East Side icons in Brooklyn.”" - Melissa McCart
"More like A Tease of Katz’s. This stall in Downtown Brooklyn’s subterranean DeKalb Market Hall offers a brief selection of the famous Lower East Side deli’s greatest hits. If you’re looking for a quality sandwich, it gets the job done, but we can’t help but feel that the pastrami is a little fresher and thicker at the original location. It’s also a little strange that the sides, like potato salad and coleslaw, are only available in half-quart quantities. Still, we’ll take a tease—awkwardly large portion sizes and all—over nothing." - Bryan Kim
