Busy cafe dishing up casual Salvadoran fare in small, humble quarters with booths & a bright mural.
"Chef Abi Baire takes inspiration from the women in her family — her grandmother, mother, and Aunt Maria — who’ve been cooking Salvadoran and Central American food for generations. She brought their time-tested recipes to Minneapolis in 2015, when she opened Abi’s Restaurant on Lyndale Avenue. The entire menu, which has everything from quesabirria to camarones a la plancha, is stellar, but the absolute musts are the flavor-packed pupusas. Mix and match the revueltas, the chicharron con queso, and the queso con ayote (zucchini and cheese). The restaurant accepts online orders for takeout through Toasttab." - Eli Radtke
"Since 2015, Abi’s has been serving scratch-made Salvadorian and Mexican food inspired by family recipes lovingly passed down from Abi’s grandma and aunt. The Mexican portion of Abis’ menu features some of Uptown’s finest tacos, burritos, and empanadas. But don’t skip the pillowy pupusas, which are stuffed with fillings like savory chicharron or cheese with loroco, an edible Salvadoran flower, and served with crunchy, acidic cabbage slaw." - Natalia Mendez, Julie Zhou
