I’m not a food critic, and perhaps my expectations were set too high going in, but my experience at Accents Table Bourse was disappointing.
To summarize:
1. There was an inedible, thin, hard object in my final main dish, the Bresse capon. It felt like plastic or a thin piece of fingernail.
2. When we pointed this out, we were told that it was natural to find a “scale” in the dish.
I have never heard of chicken having scales, so please correct me if I’m wrong. Finding something unpleasant and inedible in my mouth—and having to spit it out—is one thing. However, being told afterward that it was “a fish scale” and that this was “natural” in a chicken dish felt far more unprofessional.
Did you not know what dish you were serving? If it truly was a fish scale, then this would clearly indicate cross-contamination.
Yes, we were also served sea bass as another main course, but there was a dish in between, and the silverware was changed before the Bresse capon was served. This explanation therefore made little sense.
I was not expecting this level of service at a one-Michelin-star restaurant.
That said, aside from this incident, the meal itself was entertaining, servers were friendly and the dessert was excellent. Many of the dishes reminded me of snacks I enjoyed growing up in Japan. The dessert, in particular, did a great job of making up for what was otherwise a very unpleasant experience with the main course.
