"On October 25, 2024 the supplier informed shoppers at a major membership-based warehouse retailer that its private-label smoked salmon product (a retailer’s signature smoked-salmon line) was being recalled due to potential listeria contamination, prompting communication to customers and the removal of the product from shelves." - Jaya Saxena
"I learned that Acme Smoked Fish has signed a 10-year lease at 1 Wythe Avenue and will take an 18,000-square-foot space on the development's third floor; the project—reported to have been stalled for years due to suggested environmental issues—will also house a multi-level Brooklyn Brewery. The fourth-generation business, around since 1906, will remain nearby on Gem Street (where it turns into a shop on Fridays), and the Wythe Avenue location will be an addition rather than a relocation, according to the team." - Emma Orlow
"The founders source nova lox from New York’s Acme Smoked Fish for sandwiches like the Purist, and I noted the shop’s product is used alongside the deli’s on-site smoked fish." - Naomi Waxman
"A well-regarded Brooklyn smoked-fish purveyor whose smoked sable (black cod) is shipped to the Portland shop; this product is among the most expensive items the bagel shop buys and is portioned very carefully by gram." - ByKate Kassin
"A Greenpoint institution, Acme Smoked Fish on Gem Street near North 15th was founded by a Russian immigrant named Harry Brownstein. In the early 1900’s, Harry Brownstein, came to New York as part of a large Russian Jewish migration. He found a job as a “wagon jobber,” delivering smoked fish from smokehouses to grocery and appetizing stores, traditionally Jewish stores that sell food typically eaten with bagels—via horse-drawn wagon. Working as a peddler, Brownstein earned enough to open his own smokehouse and go into business for himself. Four generations later, the family owned business is still going strong, and is one of the largest operations of its kind in the United States. Wholesalers, the Acme company opens its doors to retail customers on Fridays, and refuses all phone or online orders on “Fish Fridays.”" - ATLAS_OBSCURA
