I saved this place to visit because I was intrigued by its underground structure, and I finally stopped by last weekend. Unfortunately, the kitchen had closed by the time I arrived, so I ordered a matcha made with water. The cozy decor and friendly staff made for a nice experience, and I enjoyed the rich matcha while I was there. I’ll definitely come back the next time I'm in the area!

just leaving or heading to greenwich letter press?! this is your spot! great selection of ready to go foods for a visit to the park or maybe just to build some snacks for a party. staff is really nice and welcoming and the interior design is fitting for the neighborhood without being overtly bougie. iced tea was one of the best i’ve had in the city.

The coziest little basement coffee shop and cafe. I always have walked by this place on my commute to work and finally dropped in to check it out. When I say cozy I mean COZY haha. Lots of seating and a perfect place to work. I went with the honey lavender latte and it was so good. They have an kitchen menu as well with a lot more options than I expected. Excited to go back and try the food.

Such a cute place with the good coffee. Also very nice atmosphere, I wanna come and work there on my laptop next time. Very NYC vibe, one of the places that create the vibe and make me feel in love with this city.

I enjoyed the cardamom honey latte but they don’t offer wifi, the music is loud in the cafe, and they close before 5pm which isn’t updated on their Google or Yelp Hours. One of the employee was not that friendly either in saying that this is not a working space. Upon reading Google comments now, I see laptops aren’t allowed but I wish they let me know sooner and in a kinder manner. I don’t recall seeing any signs about laptops unless it was hidden somewhere?

The only serve one kind of sandwich, which was good, but I was expecting more. The cappuccino was good. The environment is cozy. I thought it was a little overpriced: cappuccino + sandwich + tip = $18.51.

Randomly stopped by the place and had a yogurt ball with americano ☕️. The service was warm. The only drawback is that the place is small so it might be a bit loud when it is full. Other than that I think it is cute place to visit.

This place has a cozy vibe, almost like a living room at home. It has a no laptop policy so i could not work here. But i enjoyed their iced americano and 'fresh fruit' sooo much! 'fresh fruit' is a multigrain toast topped with greek yogurt and tons of berries, honey and hemp seeds.

Great cozy spot with tasty menu items. I tried the cappuccino and Gritty+Curry Chicken which really exceeded expectations. I only wish the chicken wasn't served so cold. This place has limited seating and is no Laptops on weekends, so take a book and enjoy the vibes while you can

Cozy place to have a warm cup of tea on the basement level of the building; so look down from street level for their entrance!

This was a truly ad hoc experience where I do not think the server received any training on executing a proper latte, instead I received some sort of cafe au lait that looks nothing like the pictures. On top of that they were cranky even by city standards.

One fascinating little coffee shop underground in the west village. My main complaint for all underground coffeeshops is the lack of sunlight (something I feel like is essential to the good morning and a cup of coffee), and the ad hoc collective had a surprising amount of sunlight but was no exception. There is a wifi policy of only allowing laptops if you purchase a food item, and when I did, I was upset to find out the wifi did not work. There is a small amount of seating space regardless, so pulling out your laptop may feel a bit cramped. There is no bathroom that I was aware of. The decor was great tho! It felt like I entered a well decorated home and the baristas had amazing taste of music. Vibes were indeed immaculate. Now in terms of the food, the matcha loaf was spectacular. Great taste for a pastry and I kind of crave some more. The cardamom was a bit lacking and the honey did sink to the bottom of my cardamom honey latte but it felt like the taste could definitely been improved on that. Overally, a typical expensive cafe in NYC that does feel cozy and comfortable, but the taste of my latte could have been improved upon, and I felt like it could use some more sunlight. Decor and vibes are great and the pastry I ordered tasted wonderful.

This is a cozy, below ground coffee shop in Greenwich Village. There's no large sign outside so it's easy to miss the stairs to enter. It was pleasantly warm inside. They have about five or six small tables with a mix of floral upholstered and foldable chairs. Several folks were working or reading. They played an unexpectedly varied mix of music. It was initially ambient jazz, but at one point they threw in some Sean Paul. They have a bunch of signature drinks. I tried the Rose Matcha latte and it was delicious. It was frothy and subtly sweet; no sugar needed. The matcha flavor was understated but detectable.

If it weren't for Yelp, we would have past by this amazing little coffee shop! The space feels like someone's apartment (I suspect it once was) but with a wonderful coffee bar. The staff is really friendly and the coffee is great. The hubby had some flowery, lavender concoction that he loved. I had an iced latte that totally hit the spot. When in the neighborhood, we will come back!

This is a super cute discreet basement coffee shop. It was hard to find at first. The inside is cozy with intentionally mismatched furniture. It's small but spacious enough. The espresso flavor itself is fine. I got a macadamia milk latte which could've gone down the flavor more than normal.

Service was great the staff allowed me to customize my own latte and only charge me for a basic one as they were worried I wouldn't like. I will say there is a lot of the menu. Felt like the pick of sage and cardamom was a miss for me. The coffee flavor was lacking for me. But cute underground shop

Came here after a quick visit to the titanic museum and it was excellent! The cafe itself is kind of small and it was a little bothersome to see like one or two people taking up one of the larger seating options, but that's not the cafe's fault. The food was EXCELLENT. Tasted like I was in a cozy little cottage and got the produce from my garden out back. Made me flashback to childhood almost like the food critic in Ratatouille. Would definitely come back again, but maybe with the intention of not sitting inside and taking my items to go! The lost point is only for the tight space, not the food and drink!

The vibes are immaculate. Such a cozy space. I came on a Wednesday morning, but I'm sure it fills up on the weekends because there's not too many tables/places to sit inside. This is the most expensive cappuccino I've had in the city so far ($6 + tip). But it is a very good cappuccino. Just be prepared to spend a little more if you come here! They have an extensive food menu as well, but I did not order anything.

The cardamom honey latte was delicious. However, for some reason online, it says this place is quiet, has free wifi and closes at 6/7pm. This information should be updated because I went there in hopes to work from there but the music was loud, they do not offer wifi, and they said there were closing in 20 minutes when it was only 4:30pm. I was on a virtual meeting at that point but luckily the meeting ended early so I left immediately after. Also, the employee rudely said this isn't a working space when asking if the seats next to us were available. Not what I was expecting overall.

Wow this coffee shop is so cute. Underground vibes in the west village with old vintage sofas scattered in the main area. There's also outdoor seating as well, but definitely seems like a super cute coffee shop for a hangout or a date! Get the golden milk turmeric latte. So so flavorful and delicious. and spicy!!

Came recently with my boyfriend to grab coffee and morning hangout. The last time I came was before Covid and this place feels a bit different. The charm is still there however definitely less lively and cozy. They serve cups in to go cups now instead of different variety of cups. Seating is still similar however slightly more spread out. They do have seats outside now tho! Still a cute local spot but definitely lost some charm to it. Hopefully it will recover now that Covid is officially over. Coffee is still good and we were able to grab little nook and just have a nice morning coffee date.

Had a low key brunch with my SO this past Sunday and we were both super impressed. My cold brew with oat milk was one of the best I've had and we both loved our entrees (B.E.C.A. For me, toast with chive cheddar eggs for him). Cute eclectic interior (and decent A/C during the heat wave). Go.

Delicious and healthy food, great vibe, an absolute perfect place to spend our last morning in NYC and watch the rain. A good reminder to stop and smell the lattes and not just rush rush rush.

They have a no laptop policy unless you buy food. I was told I couldn't use mine after I had purchased my $6 Americano. The place was basically empty at the time. I don't have a problem with cafes having a rule against people camping at a table for hours on end, but the idea that you can't use a laptop for 15 minutes while you sit and drink your overpriced coffee is absurd. The drink itself was flavorless.

Aesthetic coffee shop in the West Village-- ALL the vibez! Howeva, little seating available in mid morning (get there early!) Had the cold brew, no complaints. Looks like there's plenty of snacking options as well. Definitely a place where people come and work for awhile, hope to have better luck with snagging a set next time!

I don't mean to be cliche, but this is an absolute gem of a place. I hesitate to review it because I want to keep it to myself. I found this place by accident after discovering a nearby Starbucks was permanently closed (so rude). The decor is adorable, with just the right amount of seating scattered throughout. It's a bit on the pricey side, but this is the West Village and it is good quality coffee. I shall return.

Rude service and mediocre overpriced drinks. Stuff gives arrogant vibes and they forgot about part of my order. There are plenty of better cafes around in the area, I won't be coming back for sure.

Great hidden gem, you can easily walk by so look for the "coffee" sign. Some tables and seats inside. Most importantly, fascinatingly imaginary drinks and a few plates to eat. Great music they play!

5 stars isn't enough. There needs to be more. Ad Hoc is one of my favorite spots in NYC - the perfect west side coffee shop with inventive takes on coffee and the menu of food you always want to see. There really aren't enough positives I can say about this space. Ad Hoc is exactly what home feels like. Each mug is different, an electric combination of furniture and fixtures, a warm space to go to on a cold winter day, or spot you want to meet a friend for a coffee catch-up. The vibe here is one of the biggest selling points. There's no other cafe in the village where I want to go when I need to get some work done but want a change of scenery. The vibe isn't the only selling point: all drinks are delicious. I have yet to have anything I don't like... and doubt that will ever happen. The food is also incredible, and if Keet is around, you can probably have her create something for you. Finally, the best part is the staff. Everyone here is so wonderful - from the baristas to Keet (the owner). It makes Ad Hoc even more special among New York's overly saturated coffee/cafe scene.

Oat milk matcha late with rose syrup was amazing!! The place was super cute and cozy but had a no laptop policy since it is very small and doesn't have a lot of seating. Really great place to grab a drink and sit down and have a small chat!

I'm having dinner in Atlantic City at Chef Michael Symons restaurant. I peep his Instagram account and see he was here and raving about the place. I'm going to be in NYC over the weekend, lemme see what the hub bub is all about. First off, if you're looking for this spot be alert. There's some basement action going on, there's a tiny black plaque that says Coffee Shop. It's a neighborhood thing for sure. Once I step inside, man this is a small spot. I mean, it's so small my pantry can kick it's ass. It's small. However, I see the Ferrari of coffee machines on the counter and that gets a pass. There are many flavored lattes, I'm not sure if I want to step too far out of my comfort zone. I see as a choice a Velvet Cafe Au Late. I ask the barista what is this drink? She explains it's their cold brew made hot again and the result is a silky coffee. Sold! It's early Sunday morning and my wife is in the car. The reason why I stopped, our hotel offered a continental breakfast and she had only a tea. I asked the barista if I could order an egg white and chicken apple sausage on multigrain bread to go. I also see some outrageous looking muffins but no cookies? I asked if they have biscotti, they do I'm told. Now I'm looking at the barista. She has her hair up and she's in some sort of, yoga pants wearing get up. She turns around and starts frying eggs!! In your face stupid Starbucks!? In my eyes she's a coffee superhero to me at this point. I see her take the Chicken- Apple sausage out of a packet and that biscotti?? Was a Costco Nonnas biscotti. However! All these millennials love avocado on Toast and there was dishes coming out with topped with a single egg that I could be down with for breakfast. In the end, the coffee was good and I'm the husband of the year for getting my wife a breakfast she'd enjoy. And there's the power of social media for you! I'll be back, I'd like to try a beet root latte. That's right, beet root!

This place is such a hidden gem! It got a comfy homey feeling with lots of eclectic decorations. It feels like you are in someone's living room :) If you followed my NYC coffee shop hunt adventures for getting some work done, you'd know I always look for four things: a good latte, free wifi, outlets, and a restroom. I'd say this place satisfies 3ish out of the four. They have outlets and a restroom, but my drink and the time limit on the stay :( for me. I ordered the honey lavender latte, but this one did mainly had just very sweet honey taste and not so much of the lavender. Another thing is that this place has lots of rules regarding laptops and duration of stay posted next to the cashier area. One of them was one hour limit per purchase - I wish it was 2 hour limit, but I totally understand the rules considering the size of the place and they wouldn't want you to stay there for centuries to come. Overall, I really like the vibe of this place and would come again, but probably not to get work done because the time limit is too short for me.

Ad Hoc is small and slightly hidden (you have to go down a few steps below street level to find the entrance), but it's got a really cool and cozy vibe inside. I stopped by and got a cheddar chive biscuit and it was tasty. This seems like a nice place to work or study in post Corona times.

IF YOU CAN'T FIND IT IT'S UNDERGROUND! Yo, this place cute af. Kayla wanted to get out and get something, but she wasn't allowed to have caffeine today due to a doctor's apt. So I started looking for somewhere with a beet/turmeric latte or something, and this place came up- and came through. Holy hell this place has more "alternative" coffees than anywhere I have ever been. Kayla got the Reece's Pieces and it was *stellar*. I got the cold brew and it was also worth going back for. If you like fancy drinks but don't like caffeine, this is literally the place for you. A few more small things- no almond milk for environmental reasons (but they have regular milk...? take that as you will) yet they offer milkademia for the same price. Dope. If I could nitpick anything about the spot, someone doing a little bit of picking up of some junk laying around would go a long way towards making the small spot truly impressive.

truly one of the coolest coffee shops I've ever been to! I order their iced oat matcha with lavender syrup AND it's so good!!!! I'm also usually weary about breakfast sandwiches (don't tend to have good ones!) but this was one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had. The staff is nice, the space is beautiful, and it's just a great place overall!

I've had this placed bookmarked for a while now and I finally made it in on a rainy night. If you've been eyeing this place, don't wait til a rainy day. Go now! I enjoyed the beet root latte with a shot of espresso which was good! Next time I'd like to try the beet root tea just as tea and not a latte. It is made from powder so think of like matcha powder, you can have it with water or with steamed milk and then add espresso as you wish. You got options! Other items I was eyeing on the menu were the different oat milk lattes and also the Reese Pieces Mocha. Mmmmm sounds good for next time! Also, if it weren't for those fancy drinks, I would've ordered a cup of black coffee to try the roast on its own being that it is wood roasted! Dope. My husband enjoyed a honey lavender latte and killed it so it must've been good. Pastries caught my eye but my belly was too full to try. Again next time. Be sure to knock on the office door before entering. It's the loo. Shoutout to our barista for the evening, Liam! There is more to this place than coffee so if you're a local then be a regular. If you're not, then swing by and don't hate :)

really cute and quaint spot. stopped in with my mom for a quick afternoon coffee/ tea. i got the rose matcha which was very prominent rose tasting however different i liked it. my mom got the honey lavender latte which was delicious as well. staff was very friendly and i loved the vibe. will definitely be back when i'm in the area!

I've spotted this place a few times while visiting the stationary store upstairs, and finally stopped in. The BECCA (bacon, egg on cheddar chive biscuit with avocado) and drip coffee were both great. The coffee shop is decorated very cozily and feels lived-in; a welcome vibe.

Cute place, but the flat white was bad: milk was too hot and not frothed and the espresso was bad too. Maybe had a bad barista because some of the pictures looked ok, nothing at all like what we got.

Nas and Jaz were super sweet and helpful. The drinks Jaz made, especially the Reese's hot chocolate, were amazing. Nas made the food with speed and it came out perfect. Just overall a great environment with a lovey staff.

Quaint and lovely place to get some work done over a spot of tea or a quick brunch between classes. Love the ambience and how nice the people here are! Definitely gonna revisit when I can.

Matcha rose latte has entered my top 5 drinks of all time. For the table I was sitting at there was a 1 hour laptop limit. More for vibes and catching up with friends!!

This place is located in a small little hole on the side of the street. Super cozy atmosphere. The coffee is, as the Spanish would say, muy bien. I love it here

Love the cozy, homey feeling and all the unique decor. Highly recommend dropping in to relax and reading a book. They had some laptop policy around spending too much time at the table for more than an hour, but I didn't see it being enforced. This place is one of the most well decorated cafes I've been to, and I don't think you will be disappointed.

This used to be a cool coffee & chill spot a few years ago. But now its been converted to a cold tourist trap. It changed a lot when the cool employees that worked here left. On top of that, the food and coffee is very inconsistent and really feels like russian roulette after every order. How awkward is it when your espresso or meal turns out really bad and bland? Is it worth putting the barista in a even worse mood than she is in right now? Ugh... There is also ever evolving rule changes that just randomly get implemented here, so you may get yelled at bc you didn't know. First, it was no laptops, then no laptops after 4, then no sitting inside without ordering food, then no using the bathroom.... Now its, sorry we close at 4, at 5. Sorry, closing in 5 min. Damn. I give up. Some of the staff... Not the most pleasant people, lets just say that. Completely changed the vibes here. The positives are that its still a cute place. The drip coffee is top notch. But the place is just a different type of place than it was a few years ago, with all the well deserved 5 star reviews. Nothing lasts forever. And thats OK.

This place is great, I'm glad it's so hard to find! I walked past the entrance a few times, and had to track back to #13 and look down. I've walked by here a thousand times before and never saw the small chalk sign "coffee + shoppe" pointing out the little living room study below. Lazy jazz plays at mid-volume. A short bar with three stools in front of a full kitchen and espresso machine behind. Several small metal chairs and tables outdoors. Three indoor tables, with one chair and one plush loveseat surrounding each. Service was relaxed but professional. Feels more like a living room than anything, but is also a shoppe with candles and french presses and even macadamia milk on sale. I ordered a latte, which came a minute later in a beautiful, chicly-cracked ceramic mug. I ordered the "whole shebang," which was a fried crispy egg with lots of salt and pepper, oil-soaked but delicious mushrooms and zuchinni and spinach, and a bisected chicken sausage cooked to perfection. Customers were mostly eclectic young women working on projects. At noon on a Tuesday, the small place was pretty full, then empty by one, then full again by two. Clean, easily accessible bathroom on the same level (basement). Un-enforced hourlong limit for laptops, though I felt like I should leave because it was a very small place, and they seemed grateful that I acknowledged the new rush.

This is the best kept secret of the West Village! Think of it as an extended living room in your favorite design magazine with great coffee and company on tap. After you fall in love with it, you can bring home one of your favorite curated pieces with you. For a newly-minted Seattleite visiting NY, good coffee is always appreciated. The wood roasted coffee here is unique and delicious. The oat milk lattes are amazing and subtle. I picked up two of their tea towels, a cool tape measure, and an awesome hand-woven blanket with a good cause. I wish I could have brought home more, like their cool "EXIT" sign lightbulb. Sadly, that was not for sale. I'm glad I discovered this hidden gem before it becomes the talk of the village.
