Adam Reid at The French

"This famous hotel was first built to herald the arrival of the Midland railway in Manchester, and its restaurant was created in the Belle Époque style to evoke the luxury of the day. Whilst its name remains in homage to its historical past, today, chef Adam Reid's multi-course menu is very much a homage to his Northern roots, with dishes having names such as ‘A Warm Northern Welcome’, 'Yesterday's Dinner' and ‘Today's Tea'. Personable chefs explain and finish each course off tableside, and dishes are richly flavoured with the occasional playful touch." - Michelin Inspector

Celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary with a wonderful meal. The presentation was amazing and the food delicious! The head chef Blaze was so welcoming and our sommelier Dimitri did not miss a beat! I'm not sure why you dont have a michelin star but you deserve one or two!!! I'll never eat at mana again after experiencing The French! Thank you so much for making our evening super special!

Love this restaurant. Yes it’s pricey. It’s an experience with wonderful service. Still not convinced about that smoked eel but that’s me and overall the whole meal and experience was wonderful! Add the drinks if you like that… it’s well explained and well curated.

Very little to fault with this restaurant and I’m at a loss as to why this excellent Manchester culinary institution doesn’t have a Michelin star. We had the 10 course tasting menu and every dish was outstanding. The beef tartare, Orkney scallop and red deer dishes will remain seared in my memory for many years! I also appreciated head chef Blaze’s gracious engagement and time with with us and for explaining the inspiration behind the menu and recipes; which is a unique tribute to North West England ingredients and livestock. Particularly interesting are the long standing collaborations between the restaurant & several high quality local farms for produce; which could clearly be tasted in the food. The interiors are designed around the original features of the 1903 restaurant - The French - with contemporary features integrated tastefully into the overall design. Overall the restaurant has the air of understated and subtle luxury. If you’re in or around Manchester and have a passion for food, or a special occasion or both, this restaurant is an absolute must visit.

A Flawless Taste of Modern Manchester Adam Reid at The French is a masterful expression of modern Northern hospitality, housed within the timeless grandeur of Manchester's Midland Hotel. This isn't stuffy fine dining; it's a confident and creative celebration of the region's best, delivering an experience that is, in a word, amazing. The tasting menu is a thrilling journey through brilliantly reimagined British flavours. Each course is a work of art, showcasing exceptional produce with a playful twist that turns nostalgic concepts into something utterly contemporary and delicious. The wine flight is an essential part of the story, with each glass chosen to create a seamless dialogue with the food. My experience featured a stunning selection of white wines, each a fantastic discovery that perfectly enhanced the menu's inventive dishes. As a lover of red wine, I would have personally welcomed more than the one glass served, but its quality was undeniable and a superb match for the main course. The selection of whites was truly great and expertly curated. With service that is attentive, passionate, and deeply knowledgeable, The French delivers a flawless and memorable experience. It’s a true taste of the North's ambitious culinary heart.

Phenomenal experience and best meal I've ever had. The service was impeccable and every course was amazing! I couldn't pick a favourite course because they were all amazing, but the bread and butter... I could eat a whole loaf of that sourdough! I decided to be designated driver because I'm not much of a wine drinker, so the wine flight would be wasted on me, but straight away they offered me the non alcoholic pairings. Wow! Every single one was delicious, some really amazing flavours that I have never tried before and will definitely be buying. The others in our party actually preferred some of the non alcoholic options to the alcoholic ones. Overall an amazing experience, thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

I really don’t know where to start with this review as what ever I say I really don’t think I will do it the justice it deserves. Firstly I was blown away the choice of courses, for example when ever I have a tasting menu I always feel the the first few courses are the best and the later ones are either bland or are a struggle to stomach well quite the opposite here. They cleverly give you the heavier courses first while your hungry and go lighter which I thought was genius I really was hungry for more even at the last courses with the quality of food still being on point until the last bite! Secondly the way they delivered and presented was so warm, friendly and knowledgeable again making you feel so comfortable from the moment you arrive. Thirdly the wine list price wise and selection I felt was vast but also very reasonable for the caliber of restaurant, usually I feel over priced wine is how restaurants like this maximise their profits but refreshingly here that wasn’t the case. So Lastly my experience with the food quality, wine selection, ambience, value and service really was up where with the best I’ve ever had and will return very much hungry for more. I really hope this restaurant receives the accolades and accreditations that it deserves thank you for an exceptional evening I can’t praise you guys enough

I have no words. Well I have actually... Best meal this year. Michelin guide needs to get their act together. From the bread, ham. Salmon. Scallops. Everything was top notch. Great place to go for a special occasion or celebration. Chef came for a chat too. All round a fantastic way to celebrate our anniversary! And, what has to be #mcrsfinest dining room. Loved it!

First dining experience for quite some time. Located in the Midland Hotel, this restaurant provided a wonderful succession procession of tastes, flavours and textures. Mid week and not so busy but the staff were attentive and helpful. Done a few tasting menus over the years and this was one of the more expensive but was well worth it. No complaints. Highlights were the scallops with blood orange, and the rhubarb dessert. Excellent!
