Gourmet Southern-inspired boxed fare from a renowned chef

"The buttermilk fried chicken dinner at Ad Hoc became such a runaway hit that they eventually opened a takeout operation and garden behind the original restaurant to give the people what they want. And really, the fact that you can just roll up and grab a bucket of truly incredible fried chicken in between Yountville wine tastings is a privilege. They also serve sandwiches of the fried chicken and pulled pork variety, plus a chocolate chip cookie you shouldn’t miss. Addendum is only open from 11am-2pm on Fridays and Saturdays from May to November, so plan accordingly." - christina julian, jasmine alexandra

"A more casual project from a renowned chef that presented fried chicken in nearly all-white buckets, emphasizing restrained, functional packaging; during COVID hibernation, its bucketed offerings were made available through another nearby operation to maintain access to the popular format." - Nicole Adlman

"It's hard to imagine that Thomas Keller initially opened ad hoc as a temporary dining space—it's been a beloved Yountville dinner spot since it first opened back in 2006. This laid-back spot offers a four course menu that changes daily and showcases the comfort food Keller grew up with (fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and some seriously good salads with blue cheese and bacon). It's a fixed menu, with no substitutions except for a few add-ons, which always sell out."

"Inside Dupont Circle’s Eighteenth Street Lounge, I discovered a dim 20-seat drinking den that debuted a year ago and rolled out a new booze menu on February 22 aimed at appeasing everyday drinkers while keeping unique, adventurous options. After founders Lukas Smith and J.D. Quioco left last fall, the spot pivoted from a hyper-specific bitters-and-amaros concept; Sadira Biv, a seven-year ESL bartender who now helms Addendum’s cocktail program, has expanded the lineup to include craft cocktails for those who haven’t acquired a taste for amaro while keeping amaro as a starring spirit. She’s also added beer and stocked unique spirits ESL doesn’t carry elsewhere, like Ilegal Joven mezcal, Filibuster Rye, and Jos. A. Magnus & Co.’s Royal Seal Vodka. For its one-year anniversary the bar is running a $5 Peychaud’s apertivo spritzer and a $19 Amaro flight “to get acquainted” (running through next week). First dubbed Studio Bar as an ode to Thievery Corporation, Addendum opens at 8 p.m. daily and offers an intimate, relaxed vibe where you can sit, have a conversation, and enjoy a one-on-one experience away from ESL’s bustle." - Tierney Plumb
