"The Meal: Baleada Con Carne, $5 Adelita’s Cafe is a Honduran restaurant that’s saved us on many nights when we didn’t feel like cooking, but also didn’t feel like draining half our savings on delivery fees. Specifically, we like their baleadas. They have a few versions of this Honduran dish, which consists of refried beans, crema, and meat or eggs in a thick tortilla folded in half. The steak baleada is our favorite, and clocks in at about $5. Throw in a couple sides like rice and plantains, and you’ve got yourself a great meal." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino
"Adelita’s is located right across from the McArthur Dairy Plant in Little Haiti, which is kind of perfect since our favorite dishes at the classic Honduran spot are smothered in sour cream and cheese. Adelita is a real person, she’s regularly in the kitchen, and she’ll occasionally step out to say hello while you’re enjoying one of her masterpieces. There are a bunch of great traditional options here, like enchiladas and cheese-filled baked sweet plantains, as well as Honduran-style spaghetti enriched with sour cream. However, the baleadas are where it’s at: fluffy flour tortillas, refried beans, mantequilla (AKA Honduran sour cream), and sharp crumbled cheese. Also make sure to get their very nuanced horchata made with rice, seeds, nuts, and spices." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"Adelita’s is a great Honduran restaurant that works for takeout, breakfast, or a casual dinner. We loved everything we tried here, which includes the pupusa de chicharron y quesillo and chicken tacos, which came crispy and rolled up into little cigar shapes. But, whatever you order, don’t skip the baleadas. The baleada con pollo comes with chicken, refried beans, and sour cream folded inside a thick and fluffy flour tortilla." - ryan pfeffer
"Ceibeno Con Pollo Frito After battling an unexpectedly strong current (and a surprise manatee encounter that scared the pants off both of us) while paddleboarding in Key Biscayne this week, I needed a hearty meal. So I ordered takeout from Adelita’s Cafe, a casual Honduran spot in Little Haiti I really like. I switched up my order this week from my usual baleada and went with the ceibeno with fried chicken. It’s a comically large Honduran dish consisting of plantains and fried chicken covered in a mountain of shaved cabbage, tomato, and carrot. Hearty is an understatement. This is the meal you want after running a marathon - or accidentally paddling over a sleeping manatee." - ryan pfeffer, carlos c olaechea

The fluffy flour tortillas are stuffed with refried beans, mantequilla, sharp crumbled cheese, your choice of protein, and won't cost you more than $10. " - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
