"Agelgil is an institution, and their meat-forward dishes stand the test of time—like berbere-kicked key wot and collard greens stewed with short ribs. The dining room is huge, and it usually only gets crowded later in the night, so this is a perfect group destination for an earlier dinner. And don’t be shy about taking your leftovers to work the next day—”agelgil” means lunchbox in Ethiopia's spoken language of Amharic." - lidiya belete, aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

"Tradition is at the forefront at Agelgil, which serves the same ancient dishes that were served to the Queen of Sheba. These dishes are slow-cooked in clay pots for many hours, so the name of the game here is food made with love. What also makes this place unique is its diverse breakfast menu, including spiced omelets, a weekend breakfast buffet, and traditional Ethiopian dishes like tibs firfir: cubed beef sautéed in butter and mixed with spices and bits of injera." - Laura LeMoon, Julia Wayne

This place was a wonderful surprise! We happened upon it because our first choice was closed due to a street fair; I am not overly familiar with Ethiopian food; my son had never eaten Ethiopian before: it kind of looks like a hole in the wall... BUT... The food was absolutely delicious! Very very fresh and flavorful! We will definitely be returning. We had the small size veggie sampler platter combined with a meat option that was steak tips with spices and peppers. We stuffed ourselves! The portion sizes are very generous and the prices are very reasonable. Our only regret is that we don't have larger stomachs.

This place is Habesha-certified⭐️ and has such great flavor!!! Family owned and very sweet staff. We always go for the all Teff Injera (small surcharge) but definitely try both so you can taste the difference… both are lovely! Best shared between a group to taste as many things as you can. Try the Bozena Shiro and the Geba Wota (lamb) if you can. Lastly, their homemade Tej (fermented honey wine) is bottled in small batches so they’re not always available but if they are you’re in luck!😍❤️❤️

GET. THE. PLATTER. Lots of food, great value, perfect way to try everything out. I brought my father here who had never tried Ethiopian, and he really enjoyed it. Great place to bring folks new to the cuisine! We ordered the special combo platter (meats & vegs both) and could not have been happier! We're both big eaters, and we couldn't even come close to finishing everything.

My friend and I came in accidentally before they opened and they still seated and served us. First time trying this location. Great portions and very friendly staff. loved the presentation of the food! Definitely worth trying. Got the veggie combo for two and it was so much food that we both had plenty of left overs. (:

Hands down some of the best Ethiopian food I have had. Not oily or greasy, nor dumbed down to placate non-Ethiopian clientele. The owners came out and greeted the table. Requested sincere feedback. Get the Tibs or Wot you can’t go wrong. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Amazing service, the food is fresh and the flavors are amazing! One of the best Ethiopian spots in Seattle. Took time and care with our very large group. Great for group dinners and celebration

I you blink, you may drive past the best Ethiopian restaurant in town! I’ve been coming here for over a year now and love this place more and more! The freshness and quality of the meat, the kind and welcoming nature of the Ethiopian owners (brother and sister family operated.) The atmosphere is relaxed and mingling with the other customers is always fun. The coffee is phenomenal.

Veggie platter(vegan) was so delicious. The host was so kind and provided us with 2 different kinds of injera.
