Agnes Cafe & Provisions Review - Rice Village - Houston - The Infatuation

"When you need to hack away on a laptop but can’t concentrate unless you’re in a luxe cafe with studio-worthy lighting and a tiny, curated pantry full of chocolates and potato chips that taste like delicious Spanish ham, go to Agnes Cafe & Provisions. The all-day cafe just off Rice Village offers counter-service Mediterranean dishes like an acid-tinged freekeh salad with parmesan and flatbreads stuffed with spiced lamb kofta. It’s a chic spot for splitting mezze while sitting on designer mid-century wooden chairs. And the food tastes fantastic, like something you would spend $73 at Central Market to try to recreate but never quite can. So opt for the genuine article instead." - Chelsea Thomas

Uncovered another charming coffee spot! I found Anges by accident driving thru the area and decided to stop. The staff was welcoming and the place gave way to a charming, cozy, and inviting establishment. I wasn’t all sure what they served but to my amazement it went well beyond the coffee cup. The menu was packed with real food and extended to a variety of pastries. The coffee is great with refills for free! (I’m big on that!) The avocado toast I order was delicious too! They provide seating inside & out with a variety of things you can purchase. I propose you put Agnes on your list of places to visit!! Happy Eating 🍽️

My husband and I went to Agnes for breakfast on a Saturday morning around 9am. The store itself is super cute and has a nice grocery section with a well curated selection of treats, wine, olive oil, cheese, snacks etc. There was no one in line ahead of us when we placed our order at the register and the food came out fairly quickly. I ordered the yogurt with baklava granola and a side of berries while my husband ordered the avocado toast. The yogurt was fairly standard and served with a large portion of unsweetened yogurt and a small portion of the granola with honey on the side, but I wouldn’t have been mad about a little bit more granola. My husband enjoyed the avocado toast. Overall, the atmosphere here is great and I enjoyed the retail section a lot, but the food for me was good not outstanding.

Google
I have been going here for years. It’s an absolute delight. Aesthetically beautiful with lovely cocktails and coffee but I live for the pastries, cookies and various foods like the lamb sausage flatbread, mezze plate and freekeh salad. Today I was reminded how much I love the croissants with the ham and cheese croissant. They have also added the cutest little recipe cards which are a fun, useful touch. They have a customer for life. It’s perfect for meetings, catch ups with friends or a quiet drink on your own with a book. I love this place.

Google
This is a great spot near Rice Village and highly recommend it. The vibe is laid back and friendly meets upscale modern. Disclaimer some of the customers might have a case of the Dalitudes and come across as uptight or think they’re more important than they are, but that’s something they have to work out. The Turkish wrap was awesome and there a decent amount of parking.

Google
I absolutely love this neighborhood cafe. The coffee (drip, Americano, lattes) is always good, and they offer free refills on the drip coffee. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I come here a lot to get work done, and I have always felt welcome. Free WiFi available with purchase for 2 hours. The food is consistently flavorful (try the Torrijas, Shakshouka, and Huevos Agnes for breakfast and the lamb burger for lunch. Their red pepper tomato soup is also delicious and dairy-free!) and their pastries are amazing - specifically the gluten-free banana bread!

Google
Great cafe to work and study. Also nice patio to enjoy the weather. Coffee and the blueberry scone were good. Wouldn’t recommend food here though - Kebab was bland and low flavor.

Google
I really liked the items on the food menu. Service was amazing and the interior was nice. Lots of drinks to choose from as well. The vegie burger I ordered was tasty. There was too much dressing on the salad, but I am not going to take off one whole star for that. The combination of the ingredients was pretty good and also novel! I enjoyed it a lot.

Google
I'm so happy I checked this place out! Very relaxing environment to work out of, but only could find outlets along the are seating. Patio is decent sized and dog friendly! Also think it would be a great spot for a business meeting for breakfast or lunch. Avocado toast was delightful! The sweet dressing the avocado was tossed in was refreshing!

Yelp
First timers and very pleased. We ordered lattes and they were fantastic! My husband ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and it was super well served and so delicious, accompanied with a great jam on the side an a great salad, we had to split it since I loved it. For the sweet part we had a a dark chocolate brownie, and a chocolate chip cookie both so delicious! Highly recommended! PS for me it's a plus to have a great service and cloth napkins!

Yelp
So, I really love Agnes Cafe as the neighborhood cafe, cocktail bar, lunch and dinner spot. The service is always pretty amazing, very professional and well trained staff. The atmosphere has a sleepy neighborhood feel to it, so it's a great way to have a relaxed evening. For the food, I would recommend always going the Mediterranean route. Each time, I ordered one of their Mediterranean inspired dishes like with the Shakshuka and the Cauliflower Steak (which was pretty amazing), I have been very satisfied. Their cocktails are also very solid!

Yelp
Came for coffee and a snack with my friend the other day. Got a cortado & the tomato soup. Both were good. Love the outdoor patio. Have been before and had the iced latte. It's decent coffee. Food comes out pretty fast. Overall a good place for a light lunch.

Yelp
I visited this place for a nice breakfast and chai tea. It is such a cute coffee shop/restaurant, and I would 100% work from here if I lived in Houston. When I come back to Houston, I will definitely return and try other items on the menu.

Yelp
I met up with my friend who is a regular here on a Saturday at 8am. This cafe is bright and lively, but there were a few things that made this a less than ideal study spot. There were a few others working in here. I really like how they have a parking lot and street parking if the lot is full. I ordered the iced chai latte, which was a pretty good drink and cost $5.41. I opted not to substitute the dairy milk for an extra cost. I will say that not having the drink prices on the menu (or a mention of milk substitutions) seems like a shady move. My friend had the chai latte (her favourite) and the pumpkin spice muffin. Regarding the study situation, the wifi has a two-hour limit. It kicked me off and asked for a password to continue using it. I asked the barista about it, and she was confused and said there shouldn't be a password. Another employee said that he couldn't help me, although he was also unaware of there being a time limit and a password. I understand time limits to prevent people from hogging tables all day, but there were plenty of tables open, and it's not like I could have ordered something else to get the password. They just told me they weren't aware of a password existing. How bizarre. The seats were excruciatingly uncomfortable because the backs dig into your spine. There are only outlets by the bar, which is quite inconvenient.

Julianna L.

Yelp
I loveeee this place. Morning times are chill and you can study here. Dinner time is more for dinner, studying is kinda awkward because you'll feel bad for taking tables from people trying to eat and it gets pretty busy. The food is really good and the vibes are calm and pleasant. The manager Kevin was an amazing barista and was super attentive !

Yelp
I much prefer this place for dinner and drinks. The breakfast menu is really not that big and you can't get a lot of things on the menu unless it's lunch/dinner time (can't get potatoes, for example). The breakfast mezze wasn't bad, but the price was too high in my opinion. It was basically 4 small pieces of pita bread with dip and a few vegetables. The mimosa carafes are also not very large but $20 for one. A small chocolate croissant is $6 and a cocktail is $14.50. In general, everything here is just ok but very overpriced.
google avatar

Dali S.

Yelp
The place was really nice to study, soft lighting and not too loud. I got a chai and it was one of the best spiciest chai's that I have gotten. We also ordered a matcha that was okay, lacked some of the matcha flavor. The workers were kind.
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
I came here recently to have coffee with a friend, and I thought this was the cutest little spot! I had a cappuccino and tried the chocolate brownie and chocolate chip cookie-- all were delicious! Very sweet folks working here. I will be back for an actual meal very soon!

Yelp
I've been to Agnes a few times since discovering it recently. The cafe is quaint yet beautiful with plenty of seating inside or on the patio. While there, I've tried an iced matcha latte, an iced lavender vanilla latte, and a cinnamon coffee cake. Ordering is simple and easy as you order at the bar near the cute market area.

Yelp
We came here on a Friday night for a snack as we had dinner plans in a few hours. We ordered the dip board which came with your choice of dips. We got the beet tahini dip and a feta spread which came with roasted carrots, pita bread, and olives. Now, I'm not an olive person. I actually hate olives, but whatever olives they had were delicious. Both of the spreads were amazing as well. The ambiance in this place is relaxing and peaceful. There were several people in here studying while we had our snack. I definitely want to come back for dinner sometime.

Yelp
Agnes is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston for any meal. Their coffee is amazing, and the green shakshuka comes back to me in dreams. For lunch, I usually opt for the pita wrap, and it somehow blows me away every time. For dinner, the lamb burger and the cauliflower head are favorites. One must finish any of these meals with dessert, for which I recommend the banana bread (do not worry that it's gluten-free and don't expect too much banana flavor). It is such a unique treat. Fortunately, every dish here is fantastic and I have never gone wrong with an order. Atmosphere is very cool, and transitions well from day to night.

Yelp
Summary: I was in town for a conference in downtown, and went to Agnes to meet up with a friend. It instantly became my go-to spot, and I went back the next day to meet my cousin. It was that good as a casual hang out. What I really like about Agnes is that it is a hangout spot that covers a lot of things. I'm typically not a coffee drinker, so there are other options - light entrees, baked goods, a bar, and other snacks. There's something for you to consume. And it comes wrapped in a casually elegant ambience. Parking was easy. I had the iced latte, beef kebab, and ice cream w dark choco syrup. All were top notch for a casual restaurant. My cousin had the coffee cake and loved it, and he (as a coffee drinker) loved their coffee. The Servers were extremely friendly and helpful on both visits. Loved the place - I think you will too!

Yelp
Excellent stuffed pepper! Friendly & knowledgeable staff. Nice ambiance, somewhere between causal & elegance.

Yelp
Stellar service. The staff were so friendly and helpful and made my group feel right at home. The lemon tea cake and french toast were so good! 10/10

Yelp
LOVE. Super cute little bistro cafe in Rice, and it's a bit hidden. It's adorable inside and has a romantic vibe. Drinks and food are good as well, and our server was an absolute sweetheart!
google avatar

Yelp
Vibe- This is a cute cafe styled restaurant that also has a grocery area with food/drink items for sell. There's a patio area outside and there's plenty of seating inside including a bar. Customer service- Good! Food/drinks- I got one of the vegan food options, the bircher muesli and a hot matcha latte with oatmilk and honey lavender to drink. Parking- There's about 15 or so spots in the lot the cafe sits in.

Yelp
Great options on the menu and in the store for the provisions! We have been more often for brunch/lunch on Sundays where you order at the counter and they deliver the dishes to your table. They close at 3 on Sundays. In the evenings, they offer full service dining and always great service. The freekah salad was delish on my last visit and my man got the redfish on the half shell. Everything is delicious!! This last visit, we closed out our dinner tab and then spent a few more minutes browsing and picking up provisions and checked out with the cashier. Patio dining is nice when weather permits.

Yelp
What a change of pace for Houston. Where else can you order a Japanese rice lager, strawberry rhubarb smash, quiche, tart cherry sour (featuring whiskey, tart cherry shrub, and egg white), torrijas, fresh juice, Mexican coke, wine, fattosh salad, herbal tea, grilled cheese, and Cortado all in one spot (and I'm excluding food halls in this rhetorical question)! While some may ask if this spot is having an identity crisis, they suggest their menu is loosely Mediterranean inspired, and I personally think it provides a fun reason to revisit! My lunch was fairly simple- Americano with oat milk, lamb flatbread, brownie (how boring of me), which may account for why my experience was just fine. The lamb flatbread was tasty with the salsa, and while the simple greens provided a much needed textural crunch, I'd love a fresh/herbal element of an additional texture. The creaminess of some feta, or fresh addition of some ground mint would really blow this dish away. While I was there there were only 2 person studying on my visit, being relatively quiet at this time of day, I can see how this can be a beautiful study/remote work spot (with gorgeous light). The rest of the crowd consisted of duos (mainly female, with a few significant others seemingly convinced into joining). Overall, pretty solid spot! And bonus points to whoever picked the artwork, *chefs kiss*! I'll be back to try cocktails with a friend!

Yelp
Delicious food, attentive service, and great vibes - what more can you ask for in a cafe? This is a cafe, market, and restaurant. My friend and I went to study at Agnes during their dinner service and enjoyed the outdoor seating while trying the cheese platter and chicken kebabs. I really enjoyed my experience and will be back!

James L.

Yelp
My Hispanic boyfriend and I went in for a quick bite and they were extremely rude to us. In fact, they asked us to pay our tab before we received our food. I'm not quite sure who they think they are, but I've owned four restaurants actually not owned. I was a limited partner in the general manager of a very, very nice restaurant in Austin.

Yelp
Cafe Agnes is my favorite restaurant/ cafe in Houston. I have had breakfast, lunch and dinner here many times and each visit is absolutely great in every respect. I love all of the servers, especially Gigi. My favorite thing on the menu is the pita sandwich which comes with the very best pita I have had in Houston. Better than any of the Mediterranian bakeries in Southwest Houston. Houston is so lucky to have Agnes!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This European style cafe is the perfect place to enjoy when you just want to relax or when enjoying a good conversation with a few friends. The interior is cozy and makes you feel relaxed. The service is courteous and friendly, if you have a question about the menu the staff helps you to choose the right thing. This is one of my favorite places for espresso (or Americano) coffee! I have been there several times and I never get disappointed with my cup of joe! Food is also good and is presented in such an artistic way that enhances my taste! I highly recommend it!
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
Coffee is pretty good and food is decent. I just don't think they truly want you working here as a coffee shop. I got there around 10:30 and by 12:30 I was kicked off the WiFi and not able to get back on. Also when my friend came they kept pestering her about ordering something while she was just trying to charge her computer first at the bar. Which idk why a coffee shop would only have outlets at the bar and not by any of the seats.
google avatar

Cooper M.

Yelp
Highlights: Bikeable/walkable, great location, good coffee. The baristas are always friendly, and they have incredibly good coffee (for Houston, at least). the food menu always looks interesting, though I have yet to try anything except for the coffee cake (was good). I've never driven here, but the parking lot always seems full. Instead you should opt to bike, there is ample rack space on S Shepherd street.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
This is one of those spots to come for a quick bite and coffee or sit for hours working away if that's your desire. Tucked away in a busy part of the neighborhood, it doesn't feel busy with trees that line the windows of one side, a nice covered patio on the other side, and a small parking lot in the back. The ambiance inside is great and gives you that laod back feel away from the hustle and bustle that can be Houston streets. They have a small market with all sorts of provisions, from Texas based products to products from across the ocean. It's worth picking up a couple as the selection is eclectic and interesting. I've stopped in here a few times for breakfast and coffee. Place your order at the front and then sit where you like, they'll bring your order to you. Once you're sat, they never pressure you to leave. Overall, this is one of my go-tos on a weekday or weekend to stop and take a minute to collect my thoughts. So if you find yourself in the area one weekend or you're looking for a unique cafe in the Rice U area, stop by.

Yelp
Love this spot, visit here frequently! Great service, friendly staff, delicious food. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I had stopped by here for a business lunch. I like this small interesting place. However, it took me a while to find out you have to place your office by the cashier and they will give you a number for your meal. You can seat any where is available. The small patio was pretty nice but if you want to chat, guess it's not really a good spot for you to chat cuz the noise from car passing by could be really loud. One tips for parking. I had attempted few times for trying to find the parking spot in the tiny parking lot. Then I made a call to find out you can also park in another parking lot by the Rug store at Shepherd and Bissonnet. I would love to come back this place if I am around.
google avatar

Tracy D.

Yelp
Easy to find, awesome parking lot in the back. Love that they also sell grocery goods, wine and beer! It's very chill and not overly loud. Good amount of indoor seatings plus a very nice looking bar area! Big menu and good coffee selection. Crab toast (4/5) Salmon tartin (3/5) - would have tasted better if it's smoked salmon Espresso (5/5) - love that they have white chocolate sauce I would definitely come back and try out their other item.

Yelp
I showed up on a Saturday afternoon and ordered chai lattes and the curry chicken sandwich. The chai is good here and spiced up. The curry chicken sandwich is not bad, but surprised it was cold. However, one of the waiter/bus boys was hassling my table because he was bored. I was reading, but kept getting disrupted because he snatched the number off the table, asked us if we were done when half the food was still on the plate, and made passing jokes, thinking I wouldn't hear with my headphones in. I didn't show up expecting to deal with a teenage boy with a beard, but the food is decent.

Yelp
We've been going to Agnes for over a year at least 3 times a week, we buy the sourdough to go 2 times a week. Today the chair I was sitting on slip and I fell full body backwards to the ground , I hurt my head and body really hard, no one , no one of the employees came to ask me if I was ok, the manger walked by me and didn't stop. This is really disappointing , I've had businness before and I know how important it is to build customers , and if you want to be the neighborhood place where everyone feels good this is not the way. I am very disappointed of all the workers , we always talk to them and ask how they're doing, and I get this back? My daughter talked to the manager and she said she saw I fell but when they try to help people, people scream at them ........ I don't think that's the way to go, and again we felt we were coming to our neighborhood cafe. They know us, and they know the way we talk to them, so that's not an excuse. I think it is very important to have a good customer service, and today I found out there is none at Agnes, it is very easy to charge food and bring it to the table , but it's just like any other place where if anything happens to you , good luck , no one will care. I really hope one of the 2 owners reaches out to me.

Yelp
The young lady at the order counter recommended crab toast and a side salad. It was delicious, but I couldn't tell you what's in it. It was very spicy (herbs) but not hot. Just right! The sour dough bread toasted nicely and had a crunchy crust but was soft in the middle. The salad was refreshing with a delicious dressing. I'm very happy with my meal, and will return!
google avatar

Brianna M.

Yelp
Great vanilla late , plenty of seating, and cute market items. Salad was a little dry but huge portion. Need to try more items on the menu, but can't wait to return. Perfect lunch option for catching up with friends!

Yelp
i was really impressed with this cafe, especially with the quality of their seafood. the cafe itself is stunning. i'm obsessed with the decor + design and they have so many nice quality provisions, which are perfect for gift giving! the staff was very friendly and they were very good about keeping the tables clean. we ordered a regular latte and the strawberry rhubarb spritz, which was so light and refreshing. they sell the shrub they use for the drink in the provision part of the store too! the crab toast was so yummy, i just wish it was hot. but, i was VERY impressed with the redfish. it was cooked beautifully. it was so tender and flavorful. i'll definitely be back to get it again and also try more of their coffee cocktails!
google avatar

Nina T.

Yelp
Cute brunch / breakfast spot! It looks like a mini grocery store inside.m with various beverage choices (non alcoholic and alcoholic) and snacks. Their menu is small. I've come to try their baklava granola yogurt made of "oats, pistachios, walnuts, bulgarian yogurt, honey (gf, n)" (keeps you full for a long time!!!), their avocado toast (slightly on the smaller portion but loved their red onions touch and special sauce?), the huevos ranchers with sliced avocados on the side, and French toast! Look at that thick toast slice!!! Loved their orange jam. All plates were well presented and appetizing. I've got their coffee cake (not too sweet) and plan on trying more bakery items (cookie and baguette anyone??).
google avatar

Bianca H.

Yelp
I loved this cafe. Loved the menu choices. I had the tomato tahini soup, and crab toast. I added few drops of their hot sauce, since I like spicy. Was delicious. Can't wait to try other items on the menu.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite cafes! I am always on the lookout for a great cafe to hang out, get brunch, do work. I would do any of these here. They have a nice patio and there are also cute tables inside. The staff is super friendly. Their baked goods are incredible. So far my favorites are the gingerbread cake and chocolate croissant, both were delicious! I also loved the quiche and breakfast sandwich. The shakshouka was ok, not what I was expecting- it was pretty small and lacked tomatoes and heat/spices. I think the star of the show here is anything baked or pastries, and excellent servers. Love the vibe!

Ruben R.

Yelp
Service was on point, 10/10 Chicken kabobs were amazing 10/10. Chi tea amazing, Place is so well designed creating fabulous ambience to spend good time with friends.

Hailie C.

Yelp
Went to this cafe on a Friday after work with co-workers expecting to have a little bite and some drinks. We wanted to sit outside and had a group of 8. When we asked the male opening on (7/5) he was extremely rude and refused to accommodate us outside. Insisted that we sit at a dirty and wet table and then was very rude when we asked to have it cleaned. The customer service here is a complete turn off. Don't return
google avatar

Long T.

Yelp
Super cute cafe/bakery/mini grocery with Mediterranean inspired flavors. I enjoyed a lamb flatbread for breakfast that hit the spot. The chocolate croissant was nice just wish it was toasted a little. Parking is kinda small especially during the day as it shares a lot with some offices.

Yelp
If you are looking for a cafe that is charming, has excellent food, great service & doubles as work space then you must visit Agnes! Did I mention they serve dinner & have a bar too? How abt a mini international market? I stopped by for a pick me up after a long day at work.I had the Freekeh salad which was perfect balance of seasoning & sauce and a delicate dance of flavors in every bite. The cappuccino was wonderful & the dark chocolate notes added a fun twist to it. Staff were welcoming & very helpful! The decor & large windows to tree covered streets were dreamy & how cute are those white & blue plates? I look forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
This place is a cozy cafe. The food is delicious and great coffee. The hours are incorrect on Yelp. They are open for breakfast at 7:00am.
google avatar

Miguel R.

Yelp
My first visit here for breakfast. Was meeting some friends and they suggested this place. We were very pleased with our meals. Great coffee. The avocado toast was scrumptious. A very savory quiche and salad. My friend had a delicious sweet scone which, of course, I had to taste. Huevos Agnes was a delight; two sunny side up eggs on a pita flatbread with feta, salsa and avocado. One orders from the register and the food is brought to the table and may I say it was very timely. An open seating space with adequate, clean tables. A treat of a place to visit. I'll soon return as there was a crab toast on the lunch menu.
google avatar

Diana J.

Yelp
This is a very cute place with a small shopping area. Every thing feels very high quality. Will be back to try the dinner menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot to relax and take in the comfy food vibes! This is a hidden gem with a uniques menu that provides all the fine dining taste one could imagine.
google avatar

Carolina B.

Yelp
Great place to sit and relax, meet friends for a casual lunch, or just simply study with west background conversation & music. We had the black bean & beet burger (excellent! Not dry at all, very tasty!), the roasted red pepper and tomato soup (hearty and flavorful!), and the fattoush salad (plentiful and fresh!). They've even got a kids menu, score! Not too expensive, especially considering the area. Parking is annoying obvi but I'd come on an off hour if I had a chance.

Yelp
Rating: 7.5/10 First off, this cafe is chic and has beautiful indoor lighting making it a perfect place to study or catch up with friends for brunch. The food itself was pretty good (although slightly over priced for the small portions in my opinion) but the matcha latte was not good. It was very bland and all the matcha was collecting at the bottom. However, I could tell the matcha itself was pretty good quality. Overall, I would come back again to study + try one of their other drinks but probably not to eat.

Yelp
Agnes Cafe is a wonderful spot to enjoy with friends or colleagues for an elevated lunch or an easy dinner. The space is charming, the service is quick, and the food is delicious. My favorites are the salmon tartine and the Freekeh salad. It also has a lovely selection of specialty gifts and groceries.
