"Tonight, a New York restaurant that I’ve long loved, Aldea, is closing after 10 years in business. Aldea holds a special place in my heart, because I’ve been able to cover its lifespan from the very beginning (when it took owner George Mendes two years to open) and through its ups and downs. But mostly I just really enjoy Mendes’s cooking. So, I’m very much looking forward to having a last duck rice and egg tart tonight during the restaurant’s final dinner service." - Amanda Kludt

"Aldea, a Portuguese-influenced fine dining restaurant opened by Chef George Mendes in 2009, is known for its sophisticated dishes that draw from Mendes's Portuguese heritage and the Iberian Peninsula. The restaurant has maintained a Michelin star since 2010 and has been featured on many best new restaurant lists. Despite its success and consistency in offering an elegant fine dining experience, Aldea is closing its doors on February 22, 2023." - Serena Dai
