All The Restaurants Featured In The Bear, Ranked - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This bright narrow space in North Center serves classic skillets with a diner feel, complete with a counter with spinny stools, naugahyde booths, and a server that you hope will call you “hun.” Alexander’s gets a brief part in the season three montage, which features one of their solid pancakes being served at their counter. Someone was probably called “hun” right after the cameras stopped rolling." - adrian kane, nick allen

8 New Breakfast Places To Try

"This is the second location of Alexander’s Restaurant, with the original one being an Edgewater staple since the 60s. The bright narrow space in North Center has a classic diner feel, complete with a counter with spinny stools, naugahyde booths, and a server that you hope will call you “hun.” Similar to the original, this version has a long menu full of solid classics like hearty skillets, French toast, and patty melts. Nothing here will start a culinary revolution, but that’s fine—Alexander’s is ideal when all you want is a plate of comforting diner food, or just some eggs and toast to recover from a late night." - adrian kane, john ringor

After 58 Years, Jeri’s Grill Space Gets a Replacement in North Center - Eater Chicago

"After more than 60 years in Edgewater, a neighborhood diner is taking the leap into expansion with a second location in North Center this spring. Alexander’s Restaurant will take over the space at Montrose and Western previously occupied by Jeri’s Grill, which closed in May 2020 due to the pandemic." - aimee.levitt

First off I would like to thank the manger for being so accommodating to our group. We were 12 in total and he made sure we all sat close to each other. We ordered the breakfast special for $11.11 and it was 10/10! Will come back everything was great!

I have been to the two locations and they are both amazing! Once you walk through the door you are greeted with a smile. Love that! The pictures I took don’t give justice to how delicious the food is. I usually am spectacle of ordering chicken noodle soup but this one tastes homemade and it was served at the perfect temperature to be enjoyed. The french toast was amazing, very fluffy and flavorful. My friend also loved his steak skillet. Great service. Highly recommended.

This place is classic and very homey the second you walk in, you immediately feel welcomed and taken care of. I can’t find something not right about this great place. It doesn’t hurt that the prices are modest as well-I’ll come here forever.

This is such a a great place to eat. The food is amazing, always so well cooked and seasoned. The skillets are superb and the coffee always fresh. Perfect place to have a nice meal with the family.

I work around the neighborhood and I always wanted to try this place. I was finally able to visit the restaurant. It was packed of people which could only mean that it's really good. I want around 10minutes for a table to open. Everyone was very nice and kind, the place is spotless clean also. I love how you can see into the kitchen and see how they cook the food. I will definitely come back here again when I have time and try more things from the menu.

The food seems to be changing. The hash browns were extremely buttery. But the veggie omelette was delicious. The bacon seems as if it is made in a microwave. I was not a fan. Fruit was ok. Service, I loved going there because they were attentive but not overly pushy. I sat by the island for a single person seating and I felt like I was very rushed by multiple people. Accept one lady that I have seen since they opened. But to my disappointment they even gave me the check without asking if I was finished. Just wish it was a better experience over all. I’ve come here multiple times and this was disappointing. I will give them one more chance since I know usually when you first open you have to work out the kinks.

Hello hello. This is my wife and I new go-to breakfast place. Yay! Back in 2019, I used to go to the one on Clark on my way to college. After getting married, the breakfast place became IHOP. Now, due to our commute every morning to Lane tech for one of her siblings, on our way back to work we can enjoy a home style breakfast meal. One of our favorite menu items is their “soup of the day”. It’s always different but really tasty. Coming in when we can.

I'm so glad something is replacing Jeri's and reactivating this corner! I've never been to Alexander's in Andersonville so I don't have a comparison, but while the food was good, I think they have some work do on their Front of House experience... even for a diner. I stopped in here on a Wednesday around 3p and it was quiet with only one other customer. The staff that greeted me was friendly and offered me any table. After I sat, they asked if I wanted coffee, and I asked for a menu and some water which had to be brought to me. After a few moments someone asked if I was ready to order and a server was deployed to my table. She didn't offer any recommendations or explain the specials. I ordered the Chicken Breast Melt which came with fries and soup. The Chicken & Rice soup was great. Hot, good flavor in the brother, and just the right amount of chicken. When the sandwich came I was surprised to see it with bacon since there is a Chicken Breast Melt w/ Bacon on the menu for a higher price (I was not charged extra for the bacon and was correctly charged for the item I ordered). Nevertheless, the sandwich was hot, fresh, and super tasty! The fries were also hot, but unsalted. It came with a side of pickle and cole slaw which weren't too much to write home about except that the slaw was also unseasoned and packaged in a plastic container which wasn't appetizing. As I sat eating, I noticed some other inconsistencies in the experience such as unfinished looking decor and a Specials Board tucked in the corner, small and hard to read. The staff also seemed in total disarray with no one really having a clear job function mostly just meandering about. As I neared finishing my meal, my soup bowl was taken away and got a refill on my water, but no check. After I finished I signaled for the check and asked if I was supposed to pay at the counter. I didn't get a clear answer and I as I got up to check, someone brought me the bill without explanation but it does have the QR code to pay. Before I could use the QR code someone came over with a handheld device to take my payment, so overall kind of confusing and not well coordinated amongst the staff. Again, I am so so excited for these folks to be here and everyone seems very nice so I hope they can get some stuff figured out and make it easier for customers to enjoy their food!
