Upscale pick for Mediterranean fine dining in a sophisticated space at the historic St. Regis Hotel
"The bar at the St. Regis Hotel is almost always crowded, yet the hotel’s restaurant, Alhambra, is rarely anywhere near full. We love coming here for a weekday dinner when the dining room feels ultra-intimate—there are even booths with curtains for added privacy. This is a place for trading state secrets or telling someone you love them over a menu of mostly small, shareable plates. Get the crab croquettes served with jamon serrano and the smoked eggplant mousse topped with dates and pomegranates, and end the meal with the tableside tiramisu." - Madeline Weinfield
"The luxe restaurant inside D.C.’s St. Regis hotel resurfaced last year with a reimagined menu full of modern Mediterranean dishes like smoked eggplant mousse and lamb kofta. Save room for its premiere sweets like freshly imported baklava bites presented on gold trays and black sesame chocolate cake." - Tierney Plumb
"They’re reportedly staying at the St. Regis, where Spanish steakhouse Alhambra is closed." - Tierney Plumb
"The St. Regis hotel in downtown D.C. has officially replaced its Spanish-themed house restaurant, Decanter, with Mediterranean-focused newcomer, Alhambra. Executive chef Sébastien Giannini is serving entrees such as grilled scallops with raw cauliflower, roast chicken with herb butter, and tomahawk steak with potatoes. Small plates include tuna tartare with date puree, harissa paste, preserved lemon, marcona almond, and quail’s egg yolk. Sunday brunch offerings include lobster with poached eggs, and orange duck over polenta. The Rockwell Group renovated the St. Regis restaurant back in 2013, leaving its historic ceiling in place and adding multiple dining alcoves with glass spheres suspended from above." - Tierney Plumb
