Restaurant Alma Review - Marcy Holmes - Minneapolis - The Infatuation

"Dinner at Alma reminds us of a fancy Thanksgiving supper without any family drama. The prix-fixe meals go hard on using local produce and start with a spread of antipasti and light bites like chickpea griddle cakes, prawns, and pear-topped endive salads. Then, you’ll get family-style mains such as gnocchi with lobster and duck flavored with smoky poblano peppers and fresh paprika. The recommended wine pairings are definitely worth it, but you also can’t go wrong with the refreshing, aquavit-based dill martini. It’s a nice meal that feels special and probably won't be interrupted by that chaotic cousin who brought their pet ferret to the holiday dinner." - Stacy Brooks

16 Restaurants and Bars Serving Up Spectacular City Views

"This Mexican restaurant has beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline from its year-round rooftop deck, which has its own food and drink menu. Downstairs, diners can choose from a separate menu for their ground floor bar, B/61, and sidewalk dining setup. With solid pricing and margarita options, their taco choices encompass options such as beer-battered fish tacos and mushroom swiss chard enchiladas." - Eater Staff

California-Inspired Design Takes Over Restaurant Dining Rooms | Eater

"A restaurant that garnered national acclaim in 2013 and was noted for resembling a temporary gallery space: chalkboard walls, simple wood finishes, a long open kitchen, bouquets of flowering herbs and tiles used as plates, an aesthetic that foregrounded visual minimalism and an artisanal, herb-forward presentation." - Nick Mancall-Bitel

Since 2002, Alma’s heated rooftop has paired tequila-forward drinks and regional Mexican plates with a straight-shot view of Lower Manhattan. Noted by New York Magazine and beloved by locals, it’s a relaxed, long-running neighborhood staple with real staying power.

I went for a brunch with my family, in addition it was my mom’s bday. The food was really good, the drinks as well were good and strong. The Love Bird in particular was really good. You definitely have to sit on the rooftop as on a nice day the views are really nice and adds to the enjoyable ambiance of the spot. Highly recommend for brunch, I can’t say anything for dinner but I imagine it’s solid as well.

Google
First two times were sitting on the roof top, but this time out of luck for rooftop seating. Food was good, but the dishes we wanted are not on the menu anymore. The new menu has only few options. The drinks were good we like it a lot. Overall we had good time except we were sweating throughout the meal because the AC was cold enough. Hopefully they will bring back the original menu and proper temperature for indoor dining.

Google
ok, i’m sure this COULD be an amazing place, but when we went, they had a limited menu because they are renovating their kitchen. they didn’t have elote or burritos or it was either rice or beans. what???? the views are fine from the rooftop. there was some construction going on next door. the portions are pretty small. although the food was tasty, we did end up eating elsewhere afterwards. 2 teeny tiny tacos were $15 and people in my party ended up ordering 2 orders of tacos each, plus chips and salsa and an appetizer. the ceviche, while good, does not come with chips, which i found to be odd. everywhere i’ve gone has offered chips. anyway, i did enjoy their chips and salsa tho. they are thin. it was cute, but i wouldn’t come here if i was starving. it’s more for snacking.

This had been on my list for a looooong time and specifically for their brunch. I came all the way from Inwood (and due to major subway delays it was a near two hour journey). I arrived and was impressed with the expansive three level indoor, outdoor, and rooftop seating. The view from the roof is fantastic and decor is incredible. It was pretty empty(just three tables on the roof) but it was 2pm and on pride. When the menu was presented, none of the brunch items were on it despite the website saying it was served on weekends until 4pm. The server explained website was out of date and no brunch was being offered. The food we had was decent but nothing special and not worth the trek.

Try the Short rib enchiladas! So fresh and incredible flavor! Great views, and staff! Coming back for brunch!

First time we’ve been here in September 2023. The only downside was crazy swarm of bees flying around. Owners didn’t bother to somehow inform prior to sitting or help resolve the issue. Second time we’ve stopped by yesterday, on Mother’s Day. Here are some menu prices: taco (2 small ones per portion) - $15, guacamole - $18, margarita - $15, a bottle of lager - $9. I could consider the prices as reasonable if food/drinks would be really good, but they were okay at most. Meat/shrimps were fresh, but nothing special, like you know, special sauce, or herbs. I checked some places around Brooklyn and this one seems to be too pricey with no much added value.

I gotta say I was very excited to come to this place, because I heard such good reviews from bartenders from other places(I should have figured they work there so they would say good things). We Went upstairs to the rooftop and from the moment we went to the host stand we should have just left. I asked for a table for two and I am not even kidding, there were at least 5 employees standing by the host stand trying to figure out where to seat us. I understand it’s a Friday night which a busy night. However, they just all talked amongst each other while we just stood there waiting to be seated,it felt like they didn’t even care we were just standing there waiting(Bad Vibe) no apology or anything what so ever someone eventually just told us to follow them. Our table was wobbly(no one bothered to fix it). Then our server came to the table, we ordered Guacamole to start (I do not recommend unless you want bland guacamole). We got our drinks($15 for a margarita in a lowball glass, only half full). Margaritas weren’t even that good(At a Mexican Restaurant). Our entrees came, which were actually good(not amazing but compared to everything else, it was the best thing). Server didn’t ask us once if we were doing fine or needed anything. I had to get his attention to get another drink(Twice). Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. I will never come to this place again nor recommend it to anyone(I feel like the hype is that they have a rooftop, I rather travel into Manhattan for that honestly). If you want Amazing Mexican food and service, go elsewhere.

Went for an early dinner on a Friday. No wait. Sat upstairs on the open roof. Nice view of the city. Service was good. It did start to fill up quickly as we were leaving.

Yelp
Food, service & ambiance were all outstanding. Well-prepared fresh food, gentle, attentive but not intrusive service and the sunset view from the 3rd floor was delightful. Street parking was easy.

Yelp
This review is for the former B61 space that the new owners have now taken over. First off, the food is so mid I can't believe they'd even serve it. There is legitimately no flavor which is hard to believe for a Mexican restaurant lol. Chips taste like the chips you'd get from, like, a Chi Chi's or name that chain mexican restaurant that you'd find in a suburb of like Ohio. Now onto the service, it's been awhile since I've been to a restaurant and been so blown away by just how bad the service was. Look, if you are going to charge 20 bucks for a marg, at least say hi to customers and maybe just maybe ask them what they want. I know, SMALL ASKS HUH? Look, it's new york, things change. And although B61 smelled SO bad, at least the service was friendly and there were 12 dollar nachos that actually tasted like something.

Yelp
It's deceiving when you walk in it looks like a straight bar but once you travel up a flight of stairs there's a nice seated covered rooftop. If I could give it a 3.5 I would it wasn't bad but it wasn't anything to rave about. I had the pan seared snapper which was good I would have preferred it fried but it was decent it was full of fresh onion and peppers and garlic cloves , the jalapeños were actually spicy which I liked. The snapper tasted good overall. I also has the watermelon margarita which was nice. The service was good they did not rush out while we stayed talking for like 20 min after we finished our food.

Yelp
I must admit, this is my first time here however, I've heard wonderful things about it. I will be painfully honest I came here exclusively for the view, I've heard extraordinary things about the view. When I arrived, I received so much more than a great view of lower Manhattan. I received great customer service everyone was smiling, a detailed explanation of the nights specials, and drinks. I received FRESH guacamole that was flavored, seasoned, and chunky. I received bowl full of home made crispy chips that were also fresh. I had shrimp tacos for dinner, they were tender and the shrimp were medium sized packed with salsas, lots of cilantro, red onions and wedges of lime. I should have ordered a side of guacamole for the tacos. I received a tasty potent Pomegranate Margarita, and yassss an magnificent view of the sunset. Great authentic Mexican food. Reasonably priced (It's Brooklyn so reasonable is debatable, but I loved the prices). Mexican music is on the ones and twos. Great atmosphere the staff was smiling. After working a long week this is appreciated and inviting. You would think this would be an norm in many local spots, but unfortunately it isn't. They even told us "Good night," as we exited. I would suggest a flavored Margarita and Coronas. Wonderful views. They take Apple Pay! They are packed you must make reservations NOW. (Like don't wait). A+

Yelp
The server told me they were serving a limited menu because of kitchen changes and that meant no modifications and some of our favorite items were excluded. It was a big disappointment. When one of our items came out incorrectly, the food runner was visibly annoyed and it was an inappropriate reaction to have right in front of the table. Just made for strange vibes! Serving sizes are really small for the price.

Yelp
I've been a huge fan of Alma for over 20 years. I was excited about the renovation, not knowing that it was being done by new ownership... I went to the bar downstairs last week and ordered my usual margarita on the rocks. They used to be served in a large glass and were delicious. I was given a small rocks glass with a brown lime. While it was tasty, it was about 1/3 the size of the old one. A sipping drink rather than a drinking drink. I was there during happy hour, so I assumed the margarita would qualify. When I got the check and saw the high price, the bartender said only some beers were priced for happy hour. At a Mexican restaurant... I also ordered the Queso Fundido, one of my favorites. It was completely devoid of taste. They even managed to find flavorless chorizo somewhere. It was almost inedible. Terribly disappointed.

Yelp
I will say the best thing about this restaurant is the phenomenal view! It really can't be beat for a downtown Brooklyn location, you really do have the perfect shot of the Manhattan skyline. The food was definitely good, but not memorable. I got pork tacos and I enjoyed it. The big group that we were with enjoyed their food, but their drinks more! They collectively ordered margaritas and said they were delicious. Service was good and we didn't feel rushed to leave on a Thursday night which was nice.

Yelp
Wanna beat the heat? Let's meet at Alma Restaurant for happy hour! Our bartender was great and wasn't kidding about the size of the nachos, which was perfect for two. Do not attempt it alone, unless you've got a BIG appetite and plan to stay awhile. I loved my strawberry margarita and the food -- buffalo wings, guacamole & chips, and nachos. It was nice to relax, refuel, and rehydrate in Cobble Hill. Next time (on a much cooler day), I would love to explore the rooftop and see the view along the waterfront. The only downside was the various menus that threw me for a loop, way too many.

Prudence M.

Yelp
Upsides were the rooftop views and vibe, the food (I had teres steak), the drinks (try the white peach frozen margarita), and friendly service. This was my first time going, but I learned from the waiter that the restaurant is under new ownership with a revamped menu. No more plaintains on the menu because that is not an authentic Mexican dish (per the waiter). Because the menu is new, the waiter was still learning about the options, so he went back and forth to ask the chef (I'm guessing) a few times. Aside from that, I think the prices are high for what you get. My steak meal (pictured) was $32. I had it medium well and it was tender and delicious.

Yelp
I've been going to Alma occasionally for many years and it has been hit or miss according to the staff at the time. I think ownership has likely changed over the years as well. My husband and I went the other evening and it was probably the worst quality in terms of food and service that I've experienced there. My last time going was about a year ago and I remember the food being quite good then. However, the other evening, service was inattentive (after not having anyone come over to take our drink order despite it being early in the evening and not busy yet- we flagged down the bus boy to put our order in) The delicious free chips and salsa are no more and now it's $5 for the worst salsa I've had at a restaurant (extremely watery like they skimmed off the watery top rather than stirring and taking from taking from the bottom or mixing) The ceviche of the day sounded great: snapper, scallop, and mango salsa but it was bland with very little flavor--no nice tangy lime flavor. The guacamole was delicious thankfully (for $18). The menus we were given were not updated so the 2 items we wanted were not available even though we enviously saw 2 other tables get the last poblano peppers we had wanted. Instead we got pork tacos which were very good even if not what we had really wanted. We also had a side of sweet plantains which were also very good. All in all, a very disappointing evening with the poor service, mediocre food and that we couldn't order our favorite menu items. I definitely won't be back again this season and will really have to consider in the future if it's worth rolling the dice that the restaurant has improved. I think it's time I resign myself to the fact this restaurant is just not worth going to any longer. Sad that this once great restaurant has become so mediocre and soulless.

Yelp
View was great got here when the first opened. The tacos were perfect very filling. Chips and salsa was spicy . The tres leches was kinda mediocre. The sauce was great but the cake was hard. Make it difficult to eat. Service was good server was very kind and informative. Would definitely come back. Hope the rest of the menu is as good.

Yelp
I made a reservation for 4 for dinner. There are two flights of stairs which is tough for older people who were part of our group plus bathroom is one floor down. We ordered appetizers of ceviche and guacamole. Each was nearly 20$ and a joke. The so called "ceviche" was few pieces of chewing gum-like shrimp with old tomato pieces and what tasted like ketchup. It was tiny and surrounded by four thin slices of radish -- it was a joke. The guacamole has huge amounts of salt and brown avocado. It seems that salt feel in mistake. We asked for draft beer and were told that it is only available downstairs. Upstairs a small bottle of Modelo was $8 and a can of some other beer $10. The margaritas were from a cheap sugary syrupy mix, barely any alcohol. We had three different dishes... all were disgusting microwaved. The waiter said that they cant make chicken without cheese as it comes frozen that way. All of us had stomach pain and wasted huge amounts of money on disgusting food. They were only tourists so locals know and stay away. Shut this place down!

Yelp
Decided to go here with my Aunt and visiting cousin from VA. We sat on the roof top which is beautiful but if you are sitting more near the end part the sun is going to beat you up. Staff is super friendly and the place is clean. I ordered 2 berry mixes margarita drinks and they tasted good but for the price of $16 EACH I didn't even have a slight buzz. The fried calamari was good. The rotisserie chicken enchilada was okay at best. It came with a chili sauce that I thought was going to be INSIDE the enchilada but instead the enchilada was swimming on top of the sauce damn near about to drown. I wound up taking out the meat filling because the tortilla was soggy from the sauce. The chicken filling was bland. You do get 3 enchiladas. Which I only ate half of one and took the rest home that is now just sitting in my fridge. My cousin ordered a grilled shrimp salad. It wasn't actually a salad though. It was shrimp lined up and I think they were some kind of veggies in the other side lined up. She then asked for lettuce. They came and brought a handful of shredded lettuce that was charged for $3 dollars on the bill!! I could've just scraped off the lettuce on top of my enchilada for that. So all in all our bill came up to $180 and we were not left satisfied. I don't mind the bill when I enjoy my food and drinks. The 3 stars is for the rooftop and staff. But sadly I would not come back.

Yelp
This place has a great view of the city and there are usually tables without having to do reservation. Drinks are always great. I got the picante azul which was pretty strong. We also got the fish and pork tacos. The pork tacos are very tasty (3) and they are pretty big. The fish tacos come with a spicy sauce so be aware. Also I wish they would ask if you want the guacamole to be spicy.

Yelp
Thursday night sidewalk seating. (It was trivia night which got annoying as the announcer's voice in the speakers was abnormally loud.) I wouldn't recommend going on Thursday night unless you want to participate in trivia which it seemed most people were. We loved being in a new part of Brooklyn where we could get every last bit of sun as there isn't anything obstructing the view. Rooftop seating is reservation only and sidewalk/bar is first come first serve. While waiting for a table, we ordered the classic margaritas which were good at $12each. And once our table was ready, we got the red snapper taco, rock shrimp (recommend), chicken fajitas and the chilaquiles. Overall, great flavors! The table next to us got nachos and they looked amazing!
google avatar

Shani F.

Yelp
I've gone a few times in recent weeks because they have trivia on Thursday nights. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The guacamole is great, as are the burritos and enchiladas. The flan has also become a favourite. My only complaint is that it would be great if they have hot beverages and a soup on the menu, especially for people dining outdoors.

Yelp
Had a late dinner with drinks at Alma Restaurant on Friday. The rooftop has a fantastic views and the drinks are solid, but the food was subpar especially at the high prices. Quality: Alma Restaurant is really only worth it for the rooftop. The lovely view from Brooklyn of the lower skyline Manhattan largely makes up for the prices and the less than exciting food. We started our evening with the Guacamole & Chips with added on Salsa. Perfectly fine, the salsa being a nice spicy treat, but way overpriced. Along with that appetizer I got the Picante Azul, a spicy and fruity margarita, which was pretty tasty. Next we shared the Short Rib Tostada, which was the best food item we had. While the tortilla was a bit soggy, the meat was fantastic. Unfortunately, that set the expectation for the tacos, which were a huge disappointment. I was not crazy about any of the tacos, with the Al Pastor being just okay, the Carne being not very good, and the Pescado simply being bad. The Pescado taco stood out because the fish felt greasy and wet, similar to the tortilla with the Tostada. Quantity: We ordered a bunch of food items to share. Everything was a little smaller than expected, especially for the price. Value: $18 for Guacamole & Chips With Salsa. $16 for the Picante Azul. $14 for the Short Rib Tostada. $7 for a single Taco. Ambiance: Alma Restaurant is located close to the waterfront in Brooklyn. The restaurant has three floors with a full service restaurant on the street level, a closed down indoor dining area on the second floor, and an open rooftop bar and restaurant on the third floor. It is the third floor that makes the visit worth it, even though the stairs can be rough. Here they have about eight or nine tables, with windows all the way along the wall facing towards Manhattan. Our table was wobbly at every touch, but with the sparkling city lights, no one really noticed. The problem however, is inevitably someone is facing the wrong way, and even with the mirrors, it is not the same. Crowd: Reservations are required to get a seat at the rooftop, but several tables were empty during our visit. It is always a pretty busy spot, both on the street level and the roof. Service: Our waitress was very nice, but was not the most help with recommendations. Unlike a lot of places these days, they seem to have a full staff. Parking: A decent amount of street parking in the area.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Alma since it opened in 2002. The view has always been spectacular, and the drinks and atmosphere has been great. The food has been up and down over time. Originally, it was a bit overpriced and fussy. Then it went through a bit of a mediocre phase. We went again for the first time in a while, and felt that the place had truly hit its sweet spot. The food is elevated Mexican food very well done! We had: chips and guac, fish tacos, camarones, and veggie tacos. Everything was excellent. The cocktails were also first rate. I almost forgot to mention while we were eating, the sun was setting over Manhattan. We had a truly lovely evening. If you don't have a reservation, and just want to have excellent Mexican food at a neighborhood bar, you can save yourself the walk to the roof, and eat at B61, the downstairs restaurant and bar which serves the same cocktails and menu. Indeed, when we finished our dinner upstairs, we bumped into friends eating downstairs, joined them for beers. Truly a wonderful evening. We will be regulars.

Yelp
Took my mom and a friend visiting from Tampa here for dinner. We had reservations for 8:30 which is perfect because that's sunset time now that it's summer in New York. The waitress was nice but I was a little annoyed how long guac and an appetizer took when it wasn't really busy. The main course came out less than five minutes later so we couldn't really enjoy the app. Nonetheless it was all delicious, we had a variety of seafood tacos and fajitas. Everything was super flavorful. I also had a frozen guava margarita that was so tasty. I will def be back here for taco Tuesday!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I decided on Alma because of the rooftop--the weather was perfect, 87 degrees! The staff was very friendly and attentive, and it still wasn't packed even at 7pm--maybe this is still a hidden gem in BK. First, drinks: I asked if there were any happy hour specials, the bartender told me no, so I preceded to order a fantastic passionfruit margarita. I'm halfway through this delicious libation when I hear a survivor come to the bartender and say, "I need 2 happy hour margaritas." The bartender immediately starts making these house margs. *insert upside down smiley emoji*. I wasn't even going to say anything, but then he comes over to me and says, "Sorry, I guess we do have a HH special today, it's 2 tacos and a house margarita for $14." I just smirked and thanked him for telling me, after I'd already ordered a $14 margarita--either way it was so good I really couldn't be mad. The food: I chose the fried red snapper tacos--WHACK! The blandest most flavorless fried fish I'd ever tasted in a taco, sooo disappointing. (I loved their homemade flour tortillas though!) My gf and I shared the chilaquiles de pollo--DELICIOUS. She ordered the chicken enchiladas with a side of rice and plantains. She didn't like the enchiladas (I think she didn't like the red sauce, but the guy next to us got the same thing and he only half-ate his too), she only got a small saucer of rice for $5, and we sent the plantains back. Plantains are very subjective to me, but in this case neither of us liked them so order at your own risk. I think you can't go wrong with the drinks + atmosphere at Alma; for the food, it seems hit or miss. (The fajitas looked REALLY good, the steak specifically.)

Yelp
Great rooftop ambiance did not make up for the aweful food and service!!! Had brunch there today. Couldn't eat the aweful pork tacos. Left hungry. Even their salsa was watery and tasteless!!
google avatar

Anisa A.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The rooftop view was perfect at night. Great flavor drinks (guava margarita was more delicious than strong). I'll have to come back for the entrees because the appetizers - had to get em' all!!

Yelp
Just want to say that the view is incredible! We loved the ambiance of the restaurant. The entire staff was very very kind. However, there was some bad points to address. Firstly, there was a two flight hike to the rooftop dining area. Had I not worn heels I don't know if I would personally be annoyed but it's worth noting for accessibility. There was no mention of this when we made the reservation. The menu is extremely overpriced! I ended up ordering the Sangria for $10 which was alright but nice and strong. The Branzino was delicious but cost $29 and was a less than small portion. And it was not accompanied with sides which were also pretty overpriced tbh. The sides were just ok, nothing stands out too much but it was a gorgeous plating. If you go for just drinks and $15 guac, then it is worth the view but otherwise, just okay!

Excellent location with great views. Friendly staff. Colorful decor. The magaritas were small but very tasty. Great place for a group, or a celebration.

Yelp
A Five stars rating in my mind needs a few ingredients. 1) space: severe floors, and rooftop seating with a unique view. Steep stairs but worth the climb up. outside seating available. Bar seating if you just want drinks. summertime sunsets or fall/early winter gas burner warmth, the rooftop is a great option. 2) service: the hostess was accommodating and asked us if we would like to wait at the bar till seats opened up at the rooftop and the kept us updated. That was kind of her. the bar service also was prompt and friendly 3)sustenance: the food was unique. I tried the chicken enchiladas and the short rib enchiladas and although spicy (the sauce), we were forewarned. 4)spendthrift: the cost is not exorbitant but not cheap either. I thought as a whole it was appropriate I'll come back next time I'm in Cobble Hill

Yelp
I've lived in this neighborhood 7 years and had never gone, but finally!! I hear the view is to die for, but there were no seats up top, and I heard that the short rib enchiladas were good, but they are not on the downstairs menu. Ergo, a bust. I got a chicken enchilada, and it was tasty and filling, but waay overpriced for simple Mexican food! If you steer out of the money areas, you can find some of the best authentic Mexican family owned restaurants, serving up for a third of the price. Mexican Chips n salsa also $5 where normally most places serve on the house )and usually bottomless) I am not a frugal person, just advising. If u want guacamole, be ready to shell out $15. My bf got the "fajitas", and was disappointed bc it was not prepared in a stir fry fashion as traditional. It was more like a big sliced piece of London broil, and came with tortillas obvs. He said the meat wasn't very tender either. I'll try it once more, so I can grab a view, and try something from the top floor menu. I will make a reservation for sure. But then that's about it. Check it off the list. Been there done that. Paying for the view, which is better (and free) from BK Bridge park, across the street. Prob good for a nice rooftop cocktail, but uncertain if there's a bar up top. The downstairs is called b61 bar, and has covered sidewalk tables.

Service and food were great. We had the guacamole, fish tacos and shrimp. Lots of steps to get to top floor, but view was pretty!

Yelp
Love Love the drinks at ALMA!! I enjoyed my Moscow Mule and the my party enjoyed their Blueberry Margaritas. The food on the other hand can use a little more of that authentic Mexican flavor. Guacamole - enjoyed the taste, needed some more chips Ceviche- if you love it as much as me, don't even bother. It's disappointing Fish Taco/Shrimp Taco- I mean nothing crazy about them, but not the best. Salmon- pretty good, just remember to order your sides. Service was amazing, staff was funny, and very personable. We were seated promptly and greeted within 5 min of sitting. Definitely come for the drinks. My party couldn't stop raving about the Margaritas.

Yelp
Went to the rooftop for brunch - the views of the city were amazing but the food was really good too! The fish tacos were great, and I had a peach margarita which was very tasty and not too sweet. The guacamole with also very good. Everything was very fresh and not heavy.

Yelp
It's all about the roof at sunset. Breathtaking view! Lots of steep steps to get there, so if you are recovering from foot surgery, like me, take it Lento y fácil! Waited at the downstairs bar for 1/2 an hour for our table on a Sun eve. Not a bad place to wait. Trivial pursuit cards were on the bar so I could test my stupidity. They took our phone & called us when our table was ready. Nice! Meh pint size margaritas offered downstairs-a couple flavors of margaritas (frozen strawberry in a big machine & mango purée or traditional is what I recall). They were just OK. It looks like they have a much bigger selection and very different looking drinks offered upstairs-garnished & pretty. They may actually be a whole different establishment now that I think of it...working in harmony. I had what I believe was the only vegetarian meal, vegetable tacos. They were yummy with fried avocado. I'll be back for the atmosphere & I'll just have a beer downstairs if there's a wait. Saving fruity drinks for the good looking ones upstairs! Careful on those stairs, people!

Yelp
I'd like to say that we really enjoyed the food here, but we never had the chance. While working with Victor to set up a holiday party for our office, we narrowed down a date and time and I chose event menu tier 2 for a family style experience. When I provided a headcount a week out, I was told that our party was too small for an event menu (a fact that was never mention via email or phone.) We would be a party of 9. When I emailed to discuss via phone, I was ghosted. I'm still not sure what an acceptable amount of people for the event menu is, and I'll never have the chance to find out, as we had to cancel our holiday party because of it. Very disappointed in the customer service.

Yelp
The view is really what you pay for here. The menu is a bit pricey for what you actually get. I had the fish tacos which were pretty good but not so spectacular that I would pay that price again. The margarita had a little kick to it which was nice but definitely too much ice which watered it down. Overall would not be a spot I frequent but great for guacamole with a view

Yelp
I been coming here for at least 7 years. It's been a few years since I came back because of COVID until yesterday. Food isn't good anymore. Drinks and the view from the rooftop are still good. Extremely over priced because of the view from the rooftop.

Honestly pleasantly surprisingly great with huge portions and really kind staff! And good views :)

Yelp
Alma has been a staple in Columbia waterfront for years. It's an easy stopoff from the great green trail running along the water and they have a few levels. It's hard to beat their rooftop for gorgeous views of lower Manhattan in all kinds of weather (thanks to their roof system). Sadly, this is where the praise ends. The food is only "fine" in NYC standards and occasionally a bit less. Value (from a size to price ratio) is greatly diminished and can't be made up for in taste unfortunately. Service is also pretty spotty from both wait staff and the bartenders. Mixed up orders, slow service with no checkins makes for a frustrating dine - especially with children. The guacamole was the only part that was pretty good, but nothing amazing. I've wanted to love them and have visited many times over the years. Sadly, they'll be off our list going forward.

Yelp
A very nice place. Went on a Saturday night and was able to get seating upstairs to get a great view of the city. It was a rainy night so it was pretty cool out there. The food was really good and the staff was friendly. My only complaint was the price. A dinner for 2, with an appetizer, 2 margaritas and 2 beers came to almost $150. The area is definitely not my neck of the woods so I cannot frequent. However, I would recommend to others, especially for a date night.

Yelp
Great find in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. This place has it all roof top, outdoor, bar and restaurant seating. The staff members are super cute and lovely. They will try to accommodate you as best they can and will do it with a smile which is definitely a plus The drinks are delicious and innovative we had a peach margarita which was the bomb. Fyi beware when they say special they don't mean price, those margaritas were $12.00 each. The guacamole and sauce platter were the highlights for me tonight. The chicken flautas and carnitas tostadas were a no go for me. The flautas had no flavor and were too crunchy, the carnitas had too much going on. My friend had the short rib enchiladas which were well made and tasty. I definitely recommend everyone try this place but do not expect it to be cheap it is a bit pricey.

Yelp
I had a client dinner and decided to bring them to Alma. We were immediately seated on a Thursday evening on the rooftop. The view was pretty spectacular, and I'd be back in the summer to have a few drinks. Service was great , however the food was not so great. I ordered a glass of rose, and a few others ordered the tamarind mojito which they liked. For food we ordered the following: Fish tacos (fried sea bass) - very very underwhelming and was lacking so much flavor, besides the sauce that was drizzled Fish special - sea bass with green beans, the fish was over cooked. The sauce was okay, green beans were the best thing in that dish Steak fajitas - heard this was okay, nothing special Probably would be back in the summer time for a drink if in the area. Really wanted the food to be good here.

Yelp
the restaurant is under new management--The roof top is still lovely but all prices went up so much. I have the shrimp dish and it is $26 and tastes so so. The guacamole is so pricy at $18 and too spicy that i dont like it. They dont serve coffee and flan is the only desert it s provide. we came in as a group as annual event getting together and we ended up going some place for desert

Yelp
The food is terrible. Lacks flavor, style, taste, and passion. Chips looks like it came out of a bag. Salsa looks days old. Menu is not up to date from what's online and what they have inside. Service sucks. Underdressed teens working as waiters and bussers all cooped up by the bar giggling as I'm waiting for service. Staffs mood was dragging. Food comes out which is just so disappointing. Looks like a whole lot of wanna be authentic food that didn't make the cut. A huge rip off when it came to soda. Literally a half a can a soda charging me $5. If this place didn't have a rooftop view, they would never survive. Lastly, the second the food came out a total of 4 bees swarmed our food. You think maybe the staff would assist us in moving our table-but no. So I asked for plates to go, packed all my food and my kids food, paid $130 and left. Save your money and time, buy yourselves some street tacos or pizza, and take a walk up the block to the pier if you want a nice view.

Yelp
Went for a brunch. There drinks are well made and they are not selfish with the alcohol, you're giving enough that you can enjoy your drink but not get drunk . The food was fresh, well seasoned with a lot of flavor. The orders included guacamole ( freshly made, limed, basil) served with fresh made chips. Great spot for brunch, lunch or dinner and to take in the view .

Yelp
THE VIEWS! What a great way to see the city and sit on a roof top in beautiful weather. Wow. I love the atmosphere, the views, the music in the background, and the service. Highly recommend this place of the spring, summer, and fall. The food was good. Nothing I would say that was exceptional, but decent. We had the Guac and chips and the cheese and chicken tamale's. The margarita as strong but delicious!

Yelp
Nahhhh not for me. Definitely two starts for an awesome rooftop that is so lovely in the summertime. And definitely some stars for accommodating our large party. But the food was so gross. I ordered shrimp tacos and the shrimp was under cooked. I was so disgusted and angry. I couldn't exactly cause a scene because I was with strangers but that ain't cool. None of us really ate our food, something was "off" with most of the dishes on our side. Food was expensive for what it was. Prolly won't be back.

Yelp
If I could give this place 100 stars I would. We sat on the rooftop for dinner and it's covered which was great as it rained on & off. We have David and Reya (not sure how to spell her name) as our servers. They were absolutely delightful. A++++++ service & food. Great recommendations. Food was ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING!!! Got a variety of items. Drinks were great. View is great. Atmosphere is great. Go here if your thinking about it.

Yelp
Ah, Alma. As soon as the weather starts getting nice, I'm willing to throw people (as long as they are smaller than me) down the stairs to get a spot on your rooftop. Although it's covered, the open air and fantastic view of the waterfront/Manhattan skyline are well worth the angry looks from the people (as long as they are smaller than me) we elbowed to the side so we could get some seats. The bloody marys are good, the micheladas are better, and the margaritas are best (on the rocks, because I'm not a child). The food can be underseasoned but it's overall pretty solid (although I find it odd that the chorizo on the molletes special wasn't Mexican), and I love that you have a dish called Huevos de Gringo...but it's really all about the roof. Save me a seat. Or don't. I'll just take what I want from other people (as long as they are smaller than me).

Yelp
One word: expensive. You can expect to drop about $50 per person for a simple Mexican cuisine you can pay less than $20 elsewhere. But like everyone said, you're paying for the view. I have been here for dinner twice and have been to the bar, B61, downstairs multiple times (awesome lemonades btw). Most recent trip was for a birthday party for roughly 20 people. Started dinner as soon as they opened and the place filled up quick! There's nothing to say about the service but the food was just mediocre. Started off with free chips and salsa and ordered the guacamole ($12). Very expensive guac considering the portion of it. I had the fajitas de pollo ($19) and it was very salty. Among three people who also had fajitas, they only gave us one basket of corn tortillas with four tortillas inside. I don't know how they expect us to split that. Also ordered a side of arroz con queso ($7) and this was amazing. The flavor and texture was on point. Probably will come back for the view and try something else on their menu. Expect to pay a 20% gratuity for parties of 5 or more.
