"Sure, a restaurant could organize a menu by things like appetizers, entrees, and desserts, but what about something more exciting? Maybe Earth, Air, Water, and Fire? At Altair you can eat something seasonal, like chestnut agnolotti or a wild mushroom cocktail, in a room full of greenery. A Midtown escape to the elements—and it's open all day. Girls night out was elevated by the cute and classy atmosphere! Our waiter, Ethan, took the time to explain the menu to us (it’s not categorized as apps, mains, etc) and to make recommendations on both food and drinks. Everything was excellent, both food and service and prices weren’t too bad either. It’s usually difficult to find something in this area that I like so it was a pleasant surprise. I made a reservation for 2 for 6:30 but another friend joined us later around 8 and they were happy to accommodate and move us to a bigger table. The food selection is diverse but small. Lots of veggie based dishes, seafood, and meat offered. They also have mock tails upon request, but their cocktails are handcrafted, picture worthy, and delicious!

We visited Altair for our valentines celebration, and it was an amazing experience with delicious food - we couldn’t have asked for more. The staff should be really proud with their presentation and performance, they were all working so hard, and were all so kind and thoughtful despite such a busy night. We were each recommended two different delicious creative cocktails throughout the night that fit our descriptions of what we would like, and the waiter was spot on with his recommendations (ginger and cardamom tea and heirloom carrot were two delicious and unique ones we both loved). My boyfriend and I tried their set menu, which had many of the specialties on their everyday dinner menu. The dinner roll was amazing and large, the butter so many spices and flavors it was a great start to the meal. The chestnut agnolotti stood out to me as my favorite item on the menu, it was just so delicious I wanted four courses of that alone! (if you’re a pasta lover this ravioli like item is a must have!). The hamachi was fresh and mild- what more could you ask for. If you’re going for a meat item, the duck was so tender and flavorful, and the seasoning on the hangar steak was awesome too. Chocolate cake was a perfect end to our evening. And the music was the right vibe and sound level the whole evening it felt intimate and romantic but also upbeat and fun! They even gave us amazing recommendations for some bars to visit near the area another night, and to consider visiting their in house bar another time as well. I wanted to write a thoughtful review for the team that made our valentines so special, because I knew it took a lot from a great team. Thank you Altair!

Highly recommend making a reservation at Altair. Everything about this place was charming warm and inviting. Sarah was our server and she is simply the Best! The manager from Seattle is funny and we enjoyed the conversation we had with both he and Sarah. BUT the drinks especially eucalyptus & yuzu and the guava were perfect. Thank you Sarah for making our son the cotton candy mock tail.

We came here for an affordable Valentine’s Day dinner & the vibes are very fun. The outdoor space feels like being in a little oasis and the service was incredible. We also enjoyed the elemental themed cocktails. The only downside we experienced was the food. Our pasta wasn’t cooked all the way & truly still hard in the middle. It was a bit disappointing, but overall a decent experience.

Altair is a really nice restaurant within the Arlo hotel. The food was delicious and our server for the night, Gaby, was OUTSTANDING.

My recent dining experience at Altair was extremely good, deserving a solid four stars. The ambiance is a perfect atmosphere of sophistication that sets the stage for an elegant evening. Beginning with the cocktails, they are delicious, and presented with artistry and attention to detail. I recommend the Cucumber. While I have to give the rating a slight ding for its limited menu options, the dishes it does offer are simply delicious. Each item is bursting with flavor and showcases a level of cooking that is truly admirable. The only regret is the lack of variety and 'dull' options. However, what they do offer is undeniably delicious. Portion sizes are generous, and considering the quality of the food, the prices are quite inexpensive. You will enjoy a high-end dining experience at a surprisingly affordable price. Now, on to the apps. While some rave about the bread, I found it to be just a rather commonplace brioche. However, the slightly spicy butter accompanying it adds a nice flavorful kick that makes it worth ordering. The mushroom ragu, in particular, stood out as an incredible appetizer - a burst of flavor added with the ricotta on top. For the main course, the Lobster Bucatini and Duck L'Orange were both exquisite. What a delightful dilemma as they were equally delicious. Again, praises to the kitchen. I wish they would expand their menu options a bit more. The true highlight of the evening was the impeccable service. The staff at Altair was warm, friendly, and incredibly attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. In conclusion, Altair may have a limited menu, but what it lacks in variety, it more than makes up for in quality. With very well cooked dishes, generous portions, and the overall elegance, Altair is a place worth going. While it didn't quite hit the five-star mark for me, it certainly has the potential to do so. And if they announce some new menu items I will come back for more.

Google
1st of all Sarah single handedly made this the most amazing experience I had in the last 12 months. I asked her to recommend me a drink and a dish and her suggestions did not disappoint. I had the big mac burger and I could swear it has healing properties. The drink, smoked cherrywood was divine, everything i look for in a cocktail, the taste and smell took me somewhere else and back. Honestly the real star of the show goes to the service, before i could ask for water it was being filled, anything I could hope to need was provided immediately, my server was attentive and made me feel like we’ve known each other since we were kids. 5 stars aren’t enough. 1000% recommend, if you come, ASK FOR SARAH!!

What a great experience at Altair! This is a new restaurant inside the Arlo Midtown Hotel. A friend and I found it by happy accident and were so glad we did! We started with their roll and compound butter. I loved that the butter had subtle spice to it- it set the tone for a flavorful meal! For mains we ordered the Seabass and the Ricotta Gnocchi. Both were delicious so it was hard to pick a favorite. Each was perfectly cooked and a good portion as well. The menu had just the right amount of variety and left me wanting to come back and explore more of it. My friend also enjoyed her Prickly Pear cocktail. And- there’s a lively bar in the hotel adjacent to the restaurant that’s perfect for before or after your meal Lastly, the service was impeccable. We felt looked after but not rushed, which is a hard balance to get right! The restaurant was also clean and cozy. I liked how it had a dark/homey vibe while still having adequate lighting above the tables! Overall, it was a 5 star meal. I will definetly revisit whenever I’m in the city, and stay for dessert next time! ;)

Yelp
We went there for brunch. Very good service and ambiance but had the worst poached eggs and ham & cheese croissant ever. The eggs were overcooked and sour. The croissant was cold as just brought from the refrigerator.

Yelp
The food and atmosphere was amazing but the service is even better. Great service. Thank you so much Ariel

Yelp
Located inside the Arlo Midtown, Altair is the true definition of a hidden gem that I'm tempted to gatekeep so I can easily get reservations-but no, I can't withhold this spot because it's too good! Your table awaits in an inviting enclosed courtyard surrounded by greenery and charm, giving rooftop garden vibes. The menu is incredibly creative and changes with the season. I love how they have a whole "vegetable forward" section for plant-based people like myself. To drink, their take on the Gin & Tonic is phenomenal and strong. Every cocktail here is beautifully presented. To eat, I recommend a few small plates to get a taste of it all. The Dinner Roll is a must: The butter changes with the seasonal menu, but the bread is pull-apart style and has a crusty and salty/sweet outside with warm fluffy inside. They always seem to have a seasonal tempura (asparagus during our visit) which is also worth getting. The Mushroom Ragout just happens to be vegan is absolutely delicious and flavorful all around. NOW, the best item of our meal which is actually only on the bar menu but they will allow you to order at the restaurant (shhhh now you know my secret!) is the TRUFFLE MUSHROOM PIZZA. Holy cow. This is more of a flatbread, but oh my this had the most incredible flavor and plenty of truffle. If they can make this dish exactly the same way each and every time, they've got me as a lifelong customer. The service was also fabulous, and my friend and I appreciated the champagne compliments of the chef. Renwick Hospitality is doing great things and setting trends with their fabulous restaurants-I hope you will give them a try!

Yelp
Service was insanely slow.... ! Otherwise it would have been perfect. Feel like it's a strategy to make you keep on ordering drinks. Duck entree was the best thing, it was DELICIOUS. coated with nuts gave crunchy texture, perfectly cooked, juicy. Lamb was okay, small and slightly gamey. Mushroom Mafaldini was pretty good. Honestly quite tipsy since we didn't get our entre after sitting down for 2 hours and just kept on drinking. Bucatini was fine but I rmb nothing special. Fiddlehead Salad was mostly potato, want to be healthy but became unhealthy. White Asparagus Tempura was meh. Drinks were not bad but partially batched I think, for $20 each, uhmmmmmm NY trend pricing.

Yelp
So went here the other night and had the privilege of being waited on by Sarah and she was wonderful! She gave excellent recommendations. Was very patient and attentive (as our drinks took a very long time) and did not rush us at all! Overall. I really loved this atmosphere of the space and the vibe. The music was not too loud. You can hear everyone and the food was great! The drinks tho...now thats what you go for. They were so good and very unique and fun. Drinks and a show! I got the sea bass and it was some of the best I have ever had. I can wait to go back and see Sarah again!

Doreen C.

Yelp
Happy hour here with $12 drinks! The drinks were really delicious and aesthetic! Close to many offices, so perfect for company outings.

Briana G.

Yelp
The environment is beautifully designed and very cozy. It feels like you're sitting in a blooming greenhouse which is nice. Staff here were very kind. We had to wait a while to be seated but that completely understandable as it was peak breakfast time I've only had breakfast here so maybe their dinner service is where it's really at. For breakfast I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with the 4 egg omelette and hash browns. The pancakes were disappointing. They were very mid ( mediocre) I've made better pancakes at home. The 3 egg omelette had a goat cheese filling and came with spinach it was good nothing amazing but good. The hash brown was great though! Very crispy. I wish the pancakes were much better considering they were the main dish of the breakfast. Overall I wouldn't eat here again as it was a bit disappointing.

Yelp
My friend and I didn't get a chance to see the dining room, but we got a chance to experience the bar room, which was accessible via the Arlo Hotel. We each got a cocktails along with the rolls and the white truffle pizza. The drinks are really interesting, following the theme of the 4 elements (earth, fire, water, and air), and we really enjoyed them. The accompanying lemon garlic butter for the rolls was excellent, and the pizza was very tasty. The location itself was nicely decorated and appealing. All in all, it was a solid cocktail bar experience. Will definitely like to try the dining room experience!

Agta B.

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner at Altair. We were staying in the hotel and wanted a nice dinner. The menu is small but a lot of attention is paid to the details. The fiddlehead fern dish was mind blowing. The sauce was delicious and we shared it as an appetizer. We also had the hanger steak and the beef tartare. We washed it down with some prosecco. The seating was cute. Too bad it was raining because during the day the room lights up from the natural light filtering through the glass. Lots of green/woodsy accents. Service was quick and professional. Definitely a fantastic meal. I would go back again.

Tansy W.

Yelp
Amazingly friendly service! Food was good also. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the mushroom ragu - that was my favorite dish of the night. Also enjoyed the bread. My husband liked the citrus salad and the lobster bucatini. The restaurant is located inside a hotel. Would come back just for how friendly the service is!

Alan L.

Yelp
I typically try to avoid restaurants in hotels. Ignore that Altair is on the ground floor of the Arlo Midtown Hotel. The cocktails are both creative and presented beautifully. The menu is varied and the food compliments the cocktails. There is a bar area and dining room. The staff is helpful and attentive.

Rits M.

Yelp
this is inside the Arlo hotel. I came here for dinner and the menu while limited is very well presented and very well put together. Also, the wait staff is really friendly and helpful. I wasn't too sure about which wine I wanted but they came with a few options for me so I could try the portfolio and see which one I liked. I was seated immediately, but I did also have a reservation. We came on a Friday night and they were not too many people at 7 PM. there's some pretty greenery on top with flowers and lights so the space looks like a little indoor garden. It would be a cute place to bring a date for sure. We tried the chestnut agnolotti with brown butter and I highly recommend this dish, we also tried the Tokyo turnips which were well done, but not super great, I got the seared bass and my friend got the spring chicken. Definitely high-quality ingredients used. I will definitely come back.

Yelp
Excellent setting for a group dinner. Our bday party of 9 guests was extremely well cared for by Ethan. Menu is diverse and sophisticated. Kitchen accommodated everyone's dietary restrictions with ease. Several other large groups were there at the same time, and the staff didn't miss a beat. Beautiful dining room in the solarium. Great place to bring friends for a special evening.

Angela B.

Yelp
Loved the space! So beautiful. Came with a group and would think the space has to be better in an intimate setting of 2-4. Service was great and for the life of I can't recall the gentleman who helped out table, I don't want to jack it up. Overall the food was amazing, that lamb shoulder had no chance and was cooked so well. Drinks were good too, had a video of one with cotton candy that they pour over. Also create the fun bubbles that cover the top of the glass, have a fun bubble gun for that. hahaha I'd come back to try other things on the menu and again to get a more intimate experience in the space.

Ash B.

Yelp
The food and drinks were amazing! This is a really nice and upscale restaurant in Midtown that can be a great place to grab drinks or go on a date. Sadly, the kabocha dinner roll was sold out by the time of our reservation which was at 7:30 -- so if you are going here and craving that specifically, my advice is to go as early as the restaurant opens. Luckily, the rest of the food didn't disappoint. The portion sizes were decent as well. I loved the abundance of plants that added to the ambiance of the restaurant. Our server was also really nice.

Franny A.

Yelp
The Arlo has arrived & Altair brings lush outdoor vibes of outdoor elements to food & decor. The service is superb with great teamwork led by Troy our waiter. The menu is divided up with most dishes made to share. Ate: Dinner roll with five spice butter Persimmon salad with feta and pomegranate Turnips Tokyo Sea bass crudo Poussin Duck Total: $160 before tip The roll was like a challah with the amazing butter, do not miss. The sauces were all great, but the chicken and duck showed true culinary artistry and superb savory flavors.

Victoria S.

Yelp
My parents and I are visiting New York (my mom for the very first time!) and staying at the Arlo Midtown hotel above Altair. Ethan and Leo were especially welcoming and helped us work through our meal speedily before a leisurely walk to the Ambassador Theater for a 7pm performance of Chicago. We enjoyed our time so much, we returned for a quick night cap after the show. Don't miss out on the bread + (in-house crafted) butter, the steak, and a fabulous glass of Cabernet! I only wish that the formal dining room were open on Sundays.

Liz K.

Yelp
Altair is located at the Arlo Midtown. It is quite nice inside with the fake plant vibes going on. They have little heaters spread out so you'll stay warm in their little "greenhouse." Anyhoo, the food. Thought it was mid and the service was almost non-existent. The table to the left and to the right of us were soo well attended. We ordered drinks and bread and it took ages to come out. Once we received them, we were ready to order but it took another lifetime to get our server because they were so busy speaking to every other table of theirs. She even checked on the table next to us but quickly ran off without being able to flag her down. Bread is $14. We think it's good but seems a bit high for a tiny little loaf of bread. Ordered citrus salad, hamachi, sausage bucatini, Long Island duck, and beef tartare as well. Bucatini was very oily which I didn't like. Duck was ok, minus the very sweet glaze on it. Thought the food was just ok, not worth coming back. And the service was just... not serviced.

Ty H.

Yelp
The service was outstanding. We sat in the main dining room, which is almost like being on your glass, enclosed veranda with some greenery. It was very nice except they definitely need to turn the heat up. We were cold as were the people around us. The cocktails were excellent. The salt and the basil were both fabulous. The Hamachi was OK. very small for what you're paying. The Braddish was pretty good, but I don't think I would re-order that asparagus was interesting. It was tempura style and got stuck in your teeth lol. Sauce could've been a little more flavorful, considering this asparagus had very little flavor. The Brownie dessert was outstanding. I would go back there to have dessert and cocktails. We also ordered the Ragu pasta, but were too full to eat it. It looks very good.

Cindy L.

Yelp
Had an amazing time for a family birthday celebration at Altair! As this was a new restaurant we weren't sure what to expect but we made a reservation and were so pleasantly surprised. We sat in their enclosed patio and it was adorable. We ordered cocktails and enjoyed each one in various ways. We appreciated how unique and thoughtful the cocktail menu was put together. For food, we got the dinner rolls, turnips, sea bass, scallops, beef tartare, hanger steak, and all 3 desserts. There wasn't a single dish we disliked. From the bread to the steak everything was perfectly tasty and unique. Nothing was overly salty or bland, but perfectly seasoned and paired. We would definitely return to this restaurant! Not to mention service was also amazing. 10/10 recommend!

Neha K.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner for a group of 5 here before a comedy show at MSG. We were seated promptly for our reservation in the dining room. I loved that they had many options for vegetarians. My sister and I split the chestnut agnolotti (10/10) and the mushroom ragu (7/10). We ended with the chocolate Pavlov. Overall, attentive service and very cute interior dining area with the trees/lighting.

Mike R.

Yelp
Amazing food . Great ambiance. Impeccable service by Grace, everything was amazing. Prices will surprise you. Recommend to everyone

Michelle Y.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! We had the best time, Ethan our server took such good care of us. I'm so glad we found this place!

Hunter M.

Yelp
Visited with friends for birthday dinner. Everything we ordered were delicious and unique. (Including cocktails) waiter could be a challenge do get an attention but manager stepped in right away to take our additional drink orders. Overall, loved the be place. Will def visit again!

Monique C.

Yelp
I stayed at the Arlo for a few days and dined at Altair two of my nights at the hotel. For the first night I ordered the ricotta gnocchi. I'm a huge fan of squash (crazy I know) and it was cooked exceptionally. Typically I'm a bit apprehensive to order squash in a meal because it's often overcooked, this wasn't the case. The gnocchi was very filling and a great portion for one. I came back on the day I checked out waiting for my flight and ordered the sea bass. Let me tell you, I will come back just to experience this again. The sauce? Heavenly. The fish itself was juicy and I savored every bite. I woulda ordered another plate to go if I wasn't full already!

Michael R.

Yelp
Ethan was incredible, food was ok. Hard to find, but wonderful staff. The drinks can take a while but the food is solid

Ginny A.

Yelp
First time in this restaurant and wow it definitely left a wonderful impression! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Sarah who was extremely nice and answered all of our questions. The service was 10/10, the food and drinks did not disappoint! A little of bit of everything which is always a plus. After we had our dinner we headed back to the front bar where we met Kevin, the bartender, he was very knowledgeable on the drinks and always made sure he checked on us since the bar was a little busy. If you're looking to try a new place with great food and drinks, definitely checkout Altair, perfect for date night! Would definitely return!

J. F.

Yelp
Food was good and inventive. I really enjoyed the fried artichokes and the honey tart in particular. However, the service was extremely slow and disorganized. It wasn't just my table, either. The table to my left didn't get their drinks until their main course had arrived. The table to my right was not getting their food until a waiter stopped by and said, "did no one here get food yet?" For us, we got the check before our dessert was served. They did give us an extra dessert on the house for the confusion, but then took forever to process our credit card while having a 20-minute small talk conversation with the table two down.

Elizabeth N.

Yelp
I came here for a dinner and drinks and we had the best time!! To start, the atmosphere of the restaurant is beautiful and classy. I can't wait to see what it's like during the summer. The cocktails were beautiful and delicious (my favorite was the cotton candy drink as shown in the video). We shared the dinner roll with the amazing spiced butter as an appetizer and I enjoyed the ricotta gnocchi for dinner which was one of the best ones I've ever had. My partner absolutely loved the hanger steak. Then, the dessert cake was the perfect way to finish the evening. Thank you to the staff for the excellent service and hospitality during our time, especially Miguel the manager and Bri. We will definitely be back again!

Carlene K.

Yelp
Ethan was great. Thanks for a great evening! Drinks and food were great. Nice atmosphere

Michael K.

Yelp
Ethan was great. Food was great. Drinks were great. Atmosphere was fantastic sitting in the patio in back.

Samuel F.

Yelp
Super cute bar. Loved the decor it was really pretty and stylish. Fast and friendly service. Stopped by for a drink since I was staying at the hotel and it was nice and convenient. Had one of the seasonal beers and it was good and well priced.

R Y.

Yelp
Food was delicious and the service was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Altair with Troy as our server. He provided us with detailed information about the menu and we loved each of his recommendations. We had ragu, sea bass, and the duck. We couldn't do dessert because Troy insisted we do the dinner roll. We're glad because you don't want to miss their dinner roll.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
I don't leave reviews because I'm not that kind of person but when something is so bad that I feel like I'm obligated, then you know it's a problem. I went with a group of 14 people to Altair and I'm just going to list the issues that happened 1) Drink orders were either wrong or missing 2) We were waiting for the food for 2 hours 3) When the food finally did come it was average not worth the 2 hour wait 4) They also put the used silverware that we used instead of giving us new silverware Honestly save yourself the time if you're coming to eat here just don't. You will save 2 hours of your life.

Yelp
Second time staying at the Arlo and I always come to Altair for night caps. I love the atmosphere and the staff. Amazing service and friendly environment. Trevor has been my bartender this stay and has been exceptional. Drinks are amazing. Love this place. Highly recommended.

Kara F.

Yelp
Already waiting to go back after dinner tonight. Beautiful spot, everything was delicious and Ethan was exceptional. Love!!!!

Lana L.

Yelp
My friend and I had dinner and drinks on the terrace and the ambiance was 10/10. The cocktails were strong and delicious (some had especially incredible presentation), the food was flavorful and unique -- their bread was made fresh to order and the scallops were cooked perfectly. You have to get the honey tart for dessert. The best part was the service -- Troy was warm, friendly, and attentive. He made the best recommendations off the menu and we weren't disappointed. Plus, he is an absolute gem of a human being. Thank you, Troy. Can't wait to come back!

Jason W.

Yelp
This place is pretty special. The atmosphere is inviting and intimate and the service is refined without being stuffy. And the food... wow. The mushroom ragout is legit. The combination of the woodsiness of the shrooms, the sauce, the ricotta dollop, and the perfectly cooked pasta makes this dish an easy standout. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Emma the host. I was dining alone (in town for biz so don't judge :)) and the place was full. She magically found me a table smack dab in the middle of the room in between reservations. Thank you Emma for enabling me to experience this fantastic establishment. Keep up the great work!

Kevin L.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place, i've been coming here forever, their bar always offers variety with their fire air water earth elemental themed drinks. I love smoke cherry wood prickly pear hibiscus and the cotton candy one. Sarah always gives me good service and Trevor makes the best drinks. Miguel always checks on me to make sure im ok. I love that i can put messages on the wall with my wife so fun such an experience. I'll definitely be coming back whenever i'm in New York

Yelp
We had a group of 7 with a baby and came to Altair for the first time the day after Thanksgiving. It was hands down the best meal and service we received all week in the city. Jean was our server and was professional, friendly, and made us feel so welcome. He also was a baby whisperer because the little one couldn't stop smiling at him. The manager (forget her name) was also so accommodating and made sure we were having a good experience throughout the night. The dishes we got were the Seabass, Ragu, Gnochhi, Hangar Steak, and the Duck. Every dish was spectacular. My favorites were the duck and the Ragu. The vibe of the restaurant was also very cool. The patio was beautiful, full of lights and plants. Oh and also the cocktails were very cool...got a picture of the cotton candy one. There was also a drink with smoke that was really fun. Overall: Include Altair in your dining plans!

Yelp
Food is incredible for this part of town, what a gem! Trever and Allen are crazy good with their cocktail creations. Highly recommend the prickly pear and the roasted apple. Will definitely be back. Thank you guys for the amazing work that you do.

Yelp
What a gem so close to the theaters! The cocktails are special and well balanced. And the food is outstanding. Our server, Ethan, gave us the best recommendations based on our preferences and was a delight to speak with. He was attentive and kept the perfect pace, bringing our food out in time to make it to our 7 pm play. We will definitely be back anytime we find ourselves in midtown.

Yelp
Great ambiance, lighting. Not noisy. The hamachi was out of this world. The hangar steak was perfectly done and the honey bread. Was just soft enough and the butter so flavorful! Service was intelligent and friendly. Honey tart was just lovely. A tad sweet but I was in the mood for it!!

Yelp
Service was just inexcusably rude. Hard to describe how rude and thoughtless it was. Our entire service had been incredibly slow and confused and 2.5 hours into the meal, as the restaurant had emptied out, our server stood gossiping with the neighboring table for 20 minutes rather than processing our payment so we could leave. Just no.
