The Best Croissants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Open since 2002, Amandine may be one of the best-known bakeries in LA. After all these years, its French pastries are still some of the best in town. Try the chocolate or almond croissant for something sweet, or a savory ham and cheese. The strawberry Nutella croissant is always a hit for those looking for something more decadent." - Rebecca Roland

Meet 10 Of LA’s Best Asian-Owned Bakeries

"Amandine was originally founded in 2002 by a Japanese man who came to the US to study and saw a niche for Japanese French-style patisserie inspired by his parents’ bakery. Seven years ago, current owner Derek Chang took over the ivy-covered Brentwood storefront, growing the business and the menu to where it is today. Though the pastry case usually empties out by late morning, there are generally still plenty of cakes and tarts available well into the evening, along with an extensive all-day menu so you can have breakfast at night and pasta or a burger in the morning. Due to the pandemic, they had to permanently close their Gardena location, but Chang feels lucky to have the support of his staff and family to keep the business alive and the food top quality throughout the past year. Having worked in restaurants since he moved to the US from Korea as a teenager, he thinks of the industry as his destiny and hopes to continue with more locations in the future. Order this: And almond croissant, tarte citron, or delice au chocolat." - with warm welcome, leslie yeh

Great prices, excellent coffee and pastries. Have yet to try their food menu. The staff are all wonderful and kind. Like an Urth Cafe but more quaint. Had their ham & cheese croissant and Caramel Latte.

Things have really gone downhill. They have menus with no prices, which is always a red flag to me. $20 for a mediocre breakfast with 2 eggs, half order of french toast and 2 skinny pieces of bacon. The french toast seems like it was undercooked, it was pretty wet and sloppy inside. the worst part was probably the syrup. it was for whatever reason, slimy. the viscosity was just off, like it slid around the plate and didn't get soaked into the french toast like it usually would. Amandine used to have line ups out the door, not anymore. hardly a person here around lunch time.

We worked with Amandine Patisserie to cater desserts for our wedding, and they were fantastic from start to finish. Communication was clear and timely, and the team was accommodating throughout the entire process. They helped us customize our dessert order, and everything turned out exactly as we envisioned. Most importantly, the desserts were a hit—our guests couldn’t stop talking about them. Highly recommend Amandine to anyone looking for a reliable and talented bakery for wedding desserts or any special event.

I was in the area and so glad to check this cafe out! The customer service was excellent! The pastries were extremely delicious! I got a pastry with apricots and a croissant with Nutella and fruits, and they were both amazing! I also got a dish with eggs i enjoyed very much! I ate everything before I took a pic 😅. Next time I'm in LA I'll update this post! The ambiance was also very nice!

We did not expect this cafe to be this good since it wasn’t crowded, but the food and latte were great. They also sell different types of bread, and their menu has good options for a cafe.

Went here with the wife after a doctor's visit. Ambiance is less than excellent but the place is clean and service was great. We ordered cappuccinos, eggs over easy for the wife and French Toast for me. French Toast is my go-to dish for breakfast at a new restaurant. The coffees came quickly. They were quite large, which surprised us. However, they were very good with a good amount of foam, but not too much. This gave us high hopes for the food. The food arrived soon, delivered straight from the kitchen. The wife's eggs were to her liking, the bacon was crisp, the toast was dry and there was a small bowl of chopped fruit, too. The wife was delighted with everything. I was also delighted with the French Toast. Without fear of contradiction, I can say it was the best French Toast I have ever had. The toast was fluffy and stayed that way for the whole meal. The bread was brioche, I found out later. The portions were large. I couldn't finish mine, which is really saying something. The wife joined the 'clean plate' club and that is also saying something. All in all, we were very pleased with our choice for breakfast. The inside decor is straight from IKEA, but clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and efficient. The food was worth going back for. Bottom line: worth a visit. A bit expensive but that just might be the dinosaur in me. It was $40 for the whole shebang and we got to watch the doings on Wilshire Blvd. Update (13 Feb 2024): Went here again today. Only self-serve now (I guess they have to pay their people more so they eliminated that to save money. ) Order at the counter, about the same price and food quantity. There was a different taste to the French Toast today, not bad, just not as good as before. Wife was pleased with hers. Still worth a shot. Parking at the back.

Google
Incredibly tasty croissants! We stopped here while on our morning walk. We selected a few croissants:almond, chocolate and ham and cheese. Every single Croissant was delicious! We opted to find a table in the back patio Instead of inside or out front on the sidewalk on Wilshire. Inside the tables are a bit close together. I saw several folks getting things to go for a large group. Free parking lot in the back.

Google
The place is cute, service could be better. I asked for my eggs to be well done and I had to send them back and it still wasn’t well done. The sausage was dry. My friends enjoyed their omelettes, not the best but it was good.

Yelp
it's hard to get used to everything costing more these days. That said, we had the granola and fruit, which was covered in fresh strawberries and sliced bananas, coffee and a croissant. The coffee was fresh and hot, but they wanted almost $3 for a of a cup refill. We passed. The croissant was not as fresh or as flakey as the price warranted.

Yelp
Stopped by about 2:40 on Saturday for a simple pastry and coffee. I noticed all the outdoor tables and chairs were already stacked inside but when I asked one worker if they were still open, he confirmed until 3:30. He was also clearing the pastry cases which makes little to no sense as people were still walking in ordering and picking-up to-go orders. I ordered a pear tarte slice and americano which was about $10.50. The cashier asked if I wanted it to go so I responded asking if it's okay to sit inside since they were open until 3:30. The cashier sighed and looked at his watch responding "ya I guess it's okay". If you're open for almost another hour, I don't understand why the place is being cleared out so soon. The price isn't too bad for the size of the tarte but the flavor and quality just aren't there. The outer crust was hard as a rock while the middle was mushy. The pears were okay but there really wasn't much flavor and it seemed like the whole thing was just over baked. The positive is the coffee was super hot. I wouldn't go back or recommend this spot.

Yelp
I've been coming to Amandine for at least 10 years, and the pastries are second to none. All the kiddos in my life absolutely love the zoo pets (animal shaped, chocolate filled pastry). The chocolate almond croissant, cheese danish, croissant, eclair...really anything you can get here is delicious. My favorite item is probably the cheesecake though! Small parking lot in the back. The seating itself is pretty barebones. Seems like people like to hunker down with laptops and do work, or socialize.

Yelp
Fabulous place for a breakfast omelette and pastry. The macha latte was made ti perfection. There are so many great pastries to choose. Your eyes will definitely be bigger than your stomach. Get ready

Yelp
I ordered the Continental Breakfast Package 2 for my party. Everything was so good. My guests were pleased with the food. The portions were very generous. They forgot to include the bacon, but when I informed them they delivered it right away and included some extra pastries that were so delicious!

Yelp
Love this Patisserie , it's right across the street from my job, has that French twist to it. The cheese and ham croissant is delicious just ask for it to be warmed up and so is the breakfast burrito a must try.
google avatar

Nina N.

Yelp
Breakfast burrito: 6 out of 10 *asked for extra crispy potatoes: failed *asked for extra extra pico de gallo I'll pay for it: very few pieces of pico not exaggerating; failed *add avocado: failed none Otherwise it's an ok burrito I can see people saying it's good cuz it's fresh etc but i won't order again French toast: 7.5 out of 10 the center is almost wet from being soaked in goodness I don't even want butter or syrup much because it's that good however I think some powdered sugar or a few pieces of strawberries would've improved it a bit and the bread crusts are not as enjoyable as the middle a bit on the tough side Caramel banana tart: 4 out of 10 do not recommend why are the bananas so big like 2/3 of a small banana instead of slices, this could be so much better Danish looks amazing I'll try to get it next time supposedly the croissants are popular but I gotta see

Yelp
Amandine is an adorable little bakery/cafe, perfect for grab-and-go sweet and savory items! - Their almond croissant is good, but Le Pain still takes the cake for best almond croissants in town - Daily pastry happy hour between 2-3:30pm :) - Plenty of indoor seating, and a few sidewalk tables for those who prefer al fresco dining - Quick and pleasant service :) Worth dropping by if you're in the area!

Yelp
2 stars on the breakfast** 1 extra for ambiance and service** I was initially going to head over here to have some croissants and a coffee but we decided to order breakfast. My friend and I ordered the same breakfast combo with potatoes. I asked for extra crispy potatoes and the person taking the order never told me it was scallop potatoes topped with cheese. It was very runny and not good at all. Zero flavor. The bacon appeared pre cooked and just microwaved. It was very salty. Eggs scrambled came out good but the bread tasted meh and not as fresh as I imagined. I would come next time for a croissant and coffee but not for breakfast. I had to ask for ketchup, hot sauce, and salt&pepper which came out in packages which was for like a to-go bag and made it appear cheap. Packaged ketchup and hot sauce like it was a Chinese food takeaway.

Yelp
Small quiet cafe to grab a quick bite or a full meal w/ dessert. Hubby & I came for breakfast. He had the breakfast burrito w/ a side salad & french toast (it was huge). I had the turkey spinach quiche. My quiche was a tad dry but was tasty. I choose this place bc they have a variety of meat option that's not pork or beef. Some items were pricy like the lemonade w/ a small squirt of lavender syrup was $6.04 I could taste any lavender. French toast was $13.00 plus $2.00 for banana. Also the menu didn't have prices. Not that it would have changed my order but it's nice to know what I'm paying. The service was good. I'll be back whenever I'm in the area.

Yelp
I have been a regular patron for years. At one point, almost every day. Unfortunately, their current help needs to change. The coffee is bitter. Ask for a latte and you burn your mouth on the milk. I was willing to overlook these, because I love their soup and the one man who takes my order is so pleasant. So today I came in at 2;50 and ordered soup and said it was to eat in. At 3:00, the more recent guy (younger) brings it to me in a to go bag. I told him it was for here. His response was "We close at 3:30. Everything is to go." I said, no, it's only 3:00 I want a bowl and a spoon. He says, "I gave you a spoon - plastic." Saw a similar incident in another person's review. Decided this place is not worth the headache anymore (though I will miss the soup and the long-time help.)

Yelp
One of the most awesome French Bakeries in Los Angeles. Some of the most decadent pastries and breakfast foods. Here in L A today at the VA, this is our treat for coming to the big city, from our little town Oceano

Yelp
I came here to get some pastries to surprise my partner with on Valentines day. They were open early which was perfect and I got up early with the intentions to surprise my wife. Walking in I saw an abundant selection of various pastries. They were all fresh as when I got in right when they opened they were starting to put them in their display case. I got a couple different items including a chocolate croissant, slice of fruit tart, almond croissant and this apple pastry. Overall al the items were quite good with the chocolate croissant being my favorite. The inside of the space also functions as a cafe so you can get your treat and coffee and sit down on the tables they have inside. All of the workers were quite nice and gave me recommendations on the popular items there. Amandine is a solid bakery/cafe and definitely worth stopping in on.

Yelp
I love stopping by here before the farmers market! Always grab a latte and a pastry they have - which are always delicious. Had an almond croissant last weekend and been dreaming of it ever since!

Yelp
What a cute little hidden gem! I had passed by this spot so many times and never gone in. I went in for breakfast and ordered the breakfast wrap with a side salad and dirty chai late. My friend had the granola and a coffee. Everything was super tasty. We also ordered a pear danish and it was sooo good. At 10 am on a weekday the place was already packed with a line. There is parking behind the building and also plenty of space to sit both outside in the front, inside the place, and outside facing the parking lot. Next time I'll definitely be back to order one of their cakes!
google avatar

Yelp
I miss the old Amandine! The whole vibe of the place has changed. Now there are on-trend macaroons and frou-frou drinks. The quiche du jour no longer comes with salad. Latte is served in disposable cup. Ambience is different too. Mop sitting next to dining table. Back dining area used for storage. Food is decent and I will continue to come in hopes it will return to its former glory.

Yelp
I ordered the pastries for my baby shower, and although they are pricey, it's totally worth splurging for a special occasion

Yelp
Pro: pastries, iced coffee. Grow: wifi I walked by Amandine a few weeks ago and had to come back and try. They have a beautiful display of pastries. This is the perfect spot to grab a treat for birthdays or celebrations. The cafe is very aesthetically pleasing and staff were all welcoming. I was bummed that there was no WiFi which limited my visit time. Good and drink: I had the vanilla ice coffee and my friend tried the rose! The coffee was refreshing although the rose was much nicer visually. I also tried the danish which was tasty. The fresh fruit onto top gave it a nice appearance. I am dying to go back and try the cake! Overall, they have a great selection of pastries and iced coffees. I will be back to try the cakes and will update my review!

Yelp
Food use to be use to be a 4, now a 1.5. They don't care about service. They are lazy. Their window presentation is for shit. The manager needs to leave or if she ever had a passion for the restaurant industry, go back and find it. Ambiance, dark and dingy. This place could be a great go to, they just don't care anymore. Maybe the pandemic whooped their az. Kim Matthews 310-415-1443 I don't hide.

Yelp
The short: Very good pastries. Decent breakfast options. A bit pricey. The long(er): This place is always busy with many regular customers (which is a good sign when it comes to dining establishments). The pastries, baked goods and cakes are solidly good. Every time I come here I always wonder why I don't come more often... and then I remember my cholesterol numbers. I usually come here when I need to bring something to a meeting or for brunch. I have never heard anyone express anything but satisfaction.

Yelp
I cannot believe that the prices were not published. I had to order and then ask every item's price. The almond croissant was so hard it bounced off the plate. I showed it to the counterman and he said all are like that. I, again, wacked the plate with the croissant and he really did not care. I asked for my money refunded. He did. He did not suggest heating it up or another similar product, or even what they may be known for. No effort at all! My husband and I finished our coffee but first spoke to 2 ladies at the next table. I asked if theirs were hard, too. Ladies said yes and were not too pleased during our brief conversation. There are friendlier bakeries in town for my money! This is NOT the place it once was! Skip it, I say.

Yelp
Went here to meet friends and grab some breakfast. Very cute place, and the display of pastries and cakes really tickle the sweets craving. The coffee was good, i ordered a cafe mocha and a ham and cheese croissant. The croissant was flaky, but unfortunately cold. I brought some danishes home to eat later, and they were great too. Prices are a bit steep, but par for the location. Theres limited parking in the back, and meter parking out front.

Yelp
This place has Incredible delicate pastries. When we went everything was pristine and lovely.

Yelp
I used to love this place. It's unique and I like the location and the layout of the cafe. Servers are nice. No real complaints there. I got the tuna Niçoise salad. I suppose I'm unsure why these places think that a customer won't notice if the food is sub par. Salad was just not made with fresh ingredients and appeared old, wrinkly and wet. Just unappealing. Discolored looking, old cubes of potatoes, tomatoes that were not fresh and canned black olives. You don't need to be Gordon Ramsey to see that the ingredients were not fresh. Am sure he would have tossed it on the floor and screamed obscenities. There was also a smell - just unappealing, could have been the way the plates were wiped...or cutlery. I just didn't have the will or mental energy to complain - sometimes that's the way it is - and no one came to check while we were eating. I wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Fay M.

Yelp
Absolutely love their pastry. So fresh and not high in sugar like everywhere else. Just like when you buy pastry in Europe where they actually care about their people. I only buy pastry from here and nowhere else.
google avatar

Nikki H.

Yelp
Honestly this is sad to write but the ownership needs to see how the employees are treating a customer. I come here at least 2x a week and this is the first time I have been treated this way. I am a customer and I wanted to purchase a piece of the fruit tart from the bottom row seen in this picture on the bottom and Israel said that he can't give me that piece and has to give me the piece from above that seems old to me. Is this ridiculous or what??? A customer should be able to chose the piece they want to purchase and not be forced to eat something they don't want to. So I didn't make the purchase. This is not acceptable! Very sad to see this and I may not return because of the way I was treated today. I also want to say that he said he is the manager. This is absorb! Hope this helps the customer experience better for the next customer.

Yelp
This patisserie is one that deserves to be celebrated. Their kouign-amann with apples and puff pastry is a true masterpiece that beautifully blends carmelized flavors and textures into a one-of-a-kind creation that you won't find anywhere else (just be sure to arrive early enough to snag one before they sell out). And the chocolate croissant is an absolute delight, perfectly flaky, sweet, and buttery. Whether you're seeking an indulgent treat or a taste of France near West LA, this patisserie is a must-visit destination for all dessert aficionados. They also offer excellent breakfast and lunch options in a cozy cafe with indoor and patio seating. The service is always fast and friendly. It's a place where culinary craftsmanship meets warm hospitality, leaving an unforgettable impression on every customer.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best bakery I've ever been to! I've gotten everything but my favorites are the chocolate banana almond danish, and the chocolate strawberry croissant. They're so crispy and soft and the fruit is soooo fresh. They're honestly all so delicious and addicting!!! I can't wait to come back. The customer service is also top notch!
google avatar

Angie H.

Yelp
My little brother brought me here last week for some coffee and pastries - I just wanted to say the coffee was amazing and the chocolate almond croissant was so good! The baristas (a young man and young woman) were very sweet :) Very cute little café, if I didn't live out of state I would visit as often as I could!
google avatar

Sharlene C.

Yelp
I'm so happy to see this French business still in business as I lived in the neighborhood when it first opened. I still crave their croissants and banana chocolate pastry along with their lattes. I've also tried many of their cake slices. You really can't go wrong here.
google avatar

Tangee J.

Yelp
This is by far one of my favorite places especially for breakfast, everything I've eaten here has been so delicious. Staff is super friendly and helpful, and super accommodating if needed. The pastries and desserts oh my don't get me started , my eyes get big Every time I walk inside to order lol. Parking can get a lil tricky here but not impossible. Someone is always leaving so u won't have to look long. It's my goal to try every thing off the menu because this place is that good. Go ahead and give them a try
google avatar

Annie B.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop and the pastries taste amazing! They are so flaky! The apricot danish and almond croissant are a must order. Picked up a tiramisu and fruit tarts slice for a birthday, and they weren't too sweet! Super delicious! They aren't too sweet and they tasted perfect with my hot latte. I will definitely come again for the pastries and cake! Just FYI- their coffee here is medium strength and their almond milk is super strong! For some reason, the almond flavor really shines through, and my friend who got the caramel latte said she could only taste almonds. Parking- Theres free parking in the back but the parking lot is pretty small! Enough for 5-6 cars! But there's also street parking if you're lucky!
google avatar

Franciaco M.

Yelp
This is my first time getting the French toast and in my opinion the French toast it's to die for omg so fucking good, would get this every time I come here. The service was fast and friendly

Yelp
Amandine is one of my favorite cafes. Their croissants are incredibly flaky, buttery and delicious. The breakfast pastries all look and taste delicious, although some are better than others. Their omelettes and quiche are quite good. If you are looking for pastries, cakes or a nice place for a bite. I can highly recommend Amandine! Yum
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
I loved Amandine - I got an almond croissant and cheese danish here. Both were delicious! Also the portion sizing was so generous - these pastries are at least 1.5x the size of any regular croissant or danish I've gotten elsewhere. So good! Just beware of an unplanned food coma. I also got the Iced Matcha Tea Latte which was more just okay. It was nicely sweetened and tasted good to start, but it kinda got meh really fast, maybe as the ice melted. I would highly recommend coming here for the pastries! Parking is just metered street parking -- wasn't super difficult, though.

shirin h.

Yelp
Consistently delicious food and super friendly service. Their pastries are absolutely delicious! I've been eating here for years and I've never been disappointed! Free parking behind the building is an added bonus!

Yelp
The pastries were delicious! Service was very distracted and not super helpful, but overall it was a good experience.

Yelp
I'm nostalgic. It's different from 10 years ago Amandine OmeletteAlmond Croissant (^^)
google avatar

N E.

Yelp
We ordered: Turkey sandwich Cheese quiche Plain croissant Chocolate croissant Shortbread cookie Kouign-aman The cheese quiche was terrible I couldn't eat it. It had ham and leek in it and it was very greasy and the crust was dense and doughy, not in a good way. Croissants-plain and chocolate were not fluffy, they were chewy. Croissants shouldn't be chewy unless they've been sitting around getting stale. The chocolate one barely had any chocolate. The strawberry Nutella croissant could have been good but the strawberries they used were so overly ripe they were borderline rotten. The Kouign-Aman was a heavy brick. The shortbread cookies were on the powdery side but probably the most edible thing ordered. The entire thing was hugely disappointing. Pass.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Please get with the times on sustainability Been coming here for over 10 years. During COVID, Amandine switched to disposable utensils and cups. That made sense then, but the amount of trash generated for a meal and coffee is currently absurd. Ordered a coffee 'for here' and got a paper cup, plastic lid, and the heat jacket thing, a stir stick, packets of sugar, 6 napkins, pastry in a to-go paper pouch with another napkin, packets of ketchup and hot sauce, and plastic utensils. It's honestly INSANE how much trash was generated for an omelet, coffee, and a pastry.
google avatar

Leslie Y.

Yelp
We found this place by accident--only when our original breakfast destination was not open at 7 am on the weekend. But boy was it a sweet mistake worth making. The baked goods taste as good as ever, and their breakfast offerings are excellent as well. The ingredients taste fresh, and everything is prepared with a French twist. I especially enjoyed my ratatouille omelette with these rich, creamy potato slices. I split a croissant stuffed with strawberries and Nutella with my wife, and it was pretty amazing. The employees are meticulous in keeping everyone safe and everything clean. They put on a new pair of plastic gloves for each customer, and they are not open for in-store dining yet. There are clear markings on the floor for proper social distancing.
google avatar

Charisma H.

Yelp
The coffee was quite bad. I got the cappuccino and the espresso was quite burnt. Also it doesn't seem like the used any recognizable coffee (I.e. stumptown or Intelligenista) and at the price, I would expect that.
google avatar

Trinh N.

Yelp
Food: not very authentic French - kouign amann has a weird apple filling. The croissant is not flaky and on the soft side (more like brioche) Service: great service and friendly staff Ambiance: cute outdoor seatings, fitting for a cute brunch date. They don't have a lot of table outside tho. Indoor seating is nothing too special.

Yelp
Their pastry and fresh bread selections are unparalleled. They also offer impeccably fresh salads, sandwiches (Croque-monsieur!!!) and entrees are delicious and offer great value. This is a westside gem.

Yelp
Zero!!! Costco has better Croissant. Over price breakfast sandwich which tastes blah. I would have enjoys McDonald's more than this craaaaap.

Yelp
WARNING: Never order trash food from these digraceful scamming thieves!!! They deserve 0 stars and a lawsuit! They had a rewards program after 4 orders for a free item which I satisfied and then they removed the reward before I could process it. I have a screenshot and told the manager; she refused to help. The screenshot says "free item after next order" and I had ordered after that (see screenshot). I offered to show more receipts/photos. I only ordered from here because of their rewards program which they scammed me on. Other customers have been scammed too! Food is subpar and overpriced. Do yourself a favor and order anywhere else but these disgraceful jerk scammers!
