"The co-owner of popular Downtown Brooklyn restaurant Amarachi died from the virus on April 28. He remained in the hospital for two weeks on a ventilator prior to his death, with his condition worsening toward the end, his brother told NY1. Amarachi is a gathering place for the local African community and serves a wide range of Afro-Caribbean cuisine, including jollof rice, goat pepper soup, and suya. Jonathan’s brother, Adebayo Adewumi, told NY1 that Jonathan was “a great ambassador for Africa in showing breadth and the wealth and the regalness of our culture and history to the American populous.” Besides the restaurant, Adewumi worked on NYC’s Nigerian film festival, a clothing company, and a travel group promoting tourism to various parts of the African continent." - Tanay Warerkar

This place would've gotten 5 stars had our server been more attentive. Unfortunately she wasn't. I had to get the attention of the host 3 times😳 in order to have our waitress come over initially, then to get our drinks, then to get the check. The 4th and 5th times I asked another server to assist. Pretty sad.🙄 We waited for about 50 minutes to get our food which was horrible😡! Aside from that, both hosts were amazing and the food was delish😋. My only complaint regarding the food is it was a bit on the salty side. A little too heavy on the salt. Otherwise, everything was scrumptious. There was a birthday 🎉 🥳 party happening so the music was booming. The selection was great and the dj was good. The waitress said everything took long because of the party. I say...regardless of a party, youre supposed to have enough manpower to server others in a timely fashion period! Would I go back? Yes. Despite the long wait, I like to give restaurants 2 to 3 trys before I write them off. So the answer is... I would Definitely go back! I'd suggest, don't go on the weekend because you may not get in. Some people were being turned away because there was no more room. That's probably because of the party, but my guess is, wherever the food is amazing, the crowd is overflowing. ❤️

It was my first visit to New York. It was highly recommended from a colleague of my lovely wife. You have to go eat at this place. The food was excellent and the service was too. Hurry up put your shoes on and run as fast you can to this place. Great prices and good drinks

It was worth visiting this Nigerian restaurant. Their food seemed to be really amazing. People were really welcoming and helpful with the orders. So a 10/10 for service. We ordered jolaf rice with jerk chicken and tuna with jolaf rice. The rice was something I never tasted. They seasoned it so well and it aas a bit spicy but it was a good kind of spice. You don’t feel it instantly but after a while it hits you. The seasoning for jerk chicken was also kind of unique. I tried the salmon from my friend but it kind of had a fishy flavor which didn’t go well with my taste bud.

Was really excited to try this restaurant I had been to in the past but forgot the experience. The atmosphere was great and similar to a lounge. The food however was not good and expensive for the quantity and quality. The suya tastes good for thinly sliced meat but it does not taste like suya. The quantity is also underwhelming for the price. The service was not great, a lot of the menu items were missing and you had to flag your waiter more often than need be to get what you wanted.

The food is amazing; spicy but so good! I had the Suya & Jollof w/ steak & a side of sweet plantains. My friend had the chicken Alfredo; both were spicy! The drinks were delicious & strong. We both drank the Yardi Punch. The place has a nice vibe with great music and hookah. The servers were so personable and attentive. Parking in the area was easy to find on a Saturday night.

Amarachi is one of my favorite restaurants. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious and they give generous servings. It is a great place to meet up with friends to eat or if you are planning a birthday party or other special event. Recently I had the Chilean Salmon with mash potatoes and spinach. The dish is usually served with rice. But they let me substitute the rice with what I wanted.😁

A taste of Africa!! The ambiance, friendliness, and service were great. The music and drinks were also great. We each got our own pitcher, it was worth it. I am Nigerian, therefore I am picky about eating other peoples jollof rice, egusi etc. But Amarachi's is a place to eat Nigerian food!!! The jollof rice was good. Not hard from the midbottom of the pot. You can taste they used fresh ingredients and oil. You can also switch up your sides. I really wanted to try the fish and it was good. I need sause with my jollof, not that it was dry, but try jollof with extra sauce...delicious. I will be back!!!
