"We're not sure what recent market research indicated that Tribeca desperately needed two more upscale bar food restaurants, but that's what the neighborhood got this summer, and they opened up right next door to each other. Michael White's "supper club" The Butterfly and this new "American public house" called Distilled are about two hundred yards apart, and they both serve pricey cocktails and simple food in a relaxed setting. I guess the locals around here like their food casual and their cocktails swizzled. Or at least that's what these two restaurants are hoping. Also, why did that sound dirty? We've visited Distilled a few times now and we're not particularly fond of it. First of all, the room is massive. This place feels less like a "public house" and more like an "airplane hangar." Second, there always seems to be a little bit of chaos going on, most likely as a result of trying to feed a full airplane hangar worth of patrons at once. The restaurant is usually packed full of people, most of whom are after a plate of chicken wings, thanks to a few local hype machines that called them out as the best in New York within a few days of the grand opening. We both tried them on separate occasions and can't say we were all that impressed. Honestly, nothing that we've eaten at Distilled has impressed us, and we're at the point where we're definitely not going to keep coming back until something does. The restaurant has no vibe, and other than the drinks (when can we stop being so impressed with mixology?) we can't really find any redeeming qualities. What does it mean when one of the most popular things on the menu is the free popcorn they give every table? Probably that you should have dinner next door. Food Rundown Popcorn Yes, that's right. Just like your local book fair, Distilled serves free popcorn. It's dusted with brewers yeast and cumin, and people seem to love it. As for us, we're not so into the communal popcorn thing. It's one of the reasons we don't go to movies. That, and people. Oysters We ordered some oysters on our first visit to Distilled while waiting at the bar. They weren't shucked very well, and they just generally didn't do it for us. Maybe they just didn't have great stuff that week. Ahi Tuna Crudo A decent crudo that could serve as a nice compliment to whatever you're drinking, especially if you're looking to eat light. Distilled Wings These are the "famous" wings at Distilled that everyone seems to love so much. We liked them OK, but also felt like there was so much fried/crunchy/spicy/salty/sweet overload that they sort of ended up tasting like nothing. Like our taste buds just threw in the towel and were like "fck it, we're done." I suppose what we're saying is that we don't get they hype. Country Fried Duck & Waffles Probably our favorite thing on the menu, even though it's a weird dish. This is basically a pile of duck meat that's been flash fried so that there's a crunchy shell around it, and then set atop a French toast waffle thing and drizzled in smoked chili maple syrup. It's sort of unsettling and also pretty delicious. Order one for fun. Roasted Cauliflower A nice vegetarian dish that provides a needed break from all the over the top flavors in this place. The cauliflower is tossed with miso, pumpkin seeds and a little bit of basil, and it's somewhat light compared to everything else on the menu." - Chris Stang

"From Momofuku vet chef Shane Lyons, Tribeca’s Distilled aims to elevate rib-sticking pub standards like wings and burgers. But for those simply nursing a beer, its most exciting offering may be the free popcorn seasoned with “magic dust,” a blend of nutritional yeast, garlic powder, ground cumin, salt, sugar, and gochugaru. The giant, sleekly designed interior works for groups who want to linger." - Paul Schrodt

Great Bar! Outstanding service and a hug thank you to the Bartenders on Saturday night Mark and Julian for providing such an awesome experience and making amazing drinks! HIGHLY RECOMMEND ! Chicken sandwich was delicious with a little spice (don’t forget to add a bit of ranch) with waffle fries. I forgot to take a picture of the guacamole that was really good too!

Experience was OK during COVID. Outdoor dining. Service very good, friendly. Ordered the Third Marriage. A variation of an Old Fashioned. Made in batches (in other words, not from scratch at the time of order, which is common these days). The woodford reserve base overpowered the cocktail. I could not appreciate other ingredients: applejack, PX sherry and bitters. In short, would not order again and not worth the try. Would go back perhaps to try Strike Me Dead. #whiskychronicles

This was one of my favorite places for wings. I had wings there about 15 times. I moved out of NYC for 2 years. I craved them wings. I couldn't wait to have them. Unfortunately they were a major let down. Wings too big. Under cooked and overly breaded. I will try again just to check if they were having a bad day.

Came for brunch while visiting a friend, he recommended it. Atmosphere is really cool, has really nice open layout too. Lot of interesting stuff on the menu, ended up getting the chicken and cornbread waffles. They were AWESOME. Didn't even take a pic because I was so hungry and they smelled so good. I was not disappointed. Drinks were on point too, service was quick and friendly. Overall great spot!

My friends and I were starving and just looking for a place to grab something quick and move on. The place looked great from the outside and smelt amazing so we decided to give it a try. We were one of only a few tables in there at that time. Our waiter was NOT good. He was attentive right away and then stayed behind the bar and looked at us the entire time. We wanted to order food but came to find out that there was no side included with a 20 dollar burger. That was going to be 8 dollars more. Safe to say we just ordered some expensive apps instead and moved on to a different place. Our chips were stale and our flatbread was burnt. We choked it down and had to sit for too long before our waiter came over to see if we needed anything. Also no toilet paper either. Wasn’t a great experience.

The popcorn was crazy good! It was so addicting by the time the food came I couldn't finish my meal

Drinks were great and so was the burger and dollar oysters. Our waiter was very nice, funny, and attentive. Only downfall was the portion size of the beat salad. It was the size of a side dish. I would expect more for the price.

Randomly stopped in this spot looking for a bar to hangout while I waited for friend & it was such a good idea. They’ve got tvs for games, ample bar seating, & the margaritas I got were perfect. This place has beautiful high ceilings and feels really open, plus the staff were friendly.
